Starz Original Series SPARTACUS: Blood and Sand

I thought it was ok but the slow motion just got annoying and I hope its used better in the future. And the CG backgrounds at times were so noticable and the actors stood out so much.

that would be exciting...if it were 10 years ago.

I'll take what I can get :wow:

btw, the 'twins' still look good :cwink:

I agree. The editing on the fighting is way over done and too much like 300.

Understood why, I mean when Gladiator came out a lot of movies and TV shows tried to be like Gladiator and failed.

Still the acting is good and all the hot nudity is off the charts. Its just great to see a show like this embrace sexuality.

Thank God that Rob Tapert isn't a prude about America seeing his wife naked :D . You rock Robert Tapert.

NO! Sex is bad bad bad.

i want to watch this, it looks very entertaining

sex, violence....and the hero lives.

Me like this show.

I'd tap Lucy Lawless.:woot:

I've watched it 4 times now this weekend. Starz kept running it and anytime it was on I switched to it. Gorgeous, especially the exteriors. The outside in the snow environments ad in the mountains looked epic.

I finally caught the first two episodes. The Pilot was SO like 300, I couldn't help but wonder if it was a subtle parody. The Thracian's sPartan-esque wardrobe, the Barbarians Immortal-like faces, the Emperor's club looking like Xerxes' sex tent.

Not that that's a complaint. I've gotten used to the 300-ization of edutainment since History Channel's Battles BC. It lends a grandiose mythical quality to the historical context.

Ehh...seems to me like the nudity was added in for ratings.

No thanks

they've aired a second episode? I've only seen the pilot.

I was fine with the nudity, it was a common thing back then so if they can show it might as well. Didnt think they went OTT with it.

I enjoyed the second episode more than the first. It reminded me of Kurt Douglas' version of Spartacus which, to this day I enjoy more than Gladiator.

I also like that we get to see Spartacus fail as a warrior now, so we'll be all the more impressed when he starts kicking tail on a regular basis.

Complaint: The cartoonic blood splattering captions. IMHO the blood is over the top.

Other than that, I can't wait for next week.

First Legend of the Seeker turned the corner and became really good, then I get this treat called Spartacus. Yum.

As did I. It was a lot more entertaining than the first. Not that much blood, not that much slow mo, everything was good.

And I really want a Xena reference sometime in this show lol. Just mentioning her by name would be great.

So I watched the first ep and was less than impressed Maybe I will give the second a chance.

I finally caught the first two episodes. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the slow motion fight scenes. The second episode did seem to be better than the first.

The second ep was FAR superior than the first. I think the first was all about the visuals, whereas the second was much more about character development. I liked it, and i'll keep watching...

I've seen both episodes now and the slow motion 300 style fighting gets funny after it's done for every little fight. But the hot women and good sex scenes make up for it!

Saw the premiere yesterday. I guess I'd give it a 6.5/10, maybe.

Some of the acting is decent... the guy who plays Spartacus is good, as is the Roman dude who enslaves him. Didn't get to see much of Lucy Lawless and the guy who plays her husband (dude from the Mummy movies), but they're always decent and I'm sure they'll be featured more in later episodes.

Erin Cummings (Spartacus's wife) is smoking hot but there doesn't seem to be much there in terms of acting talent. But as long as we get a lot of scenes of her getting laid, I'm not complaining.

The blonde chick was annoying, I agree. But she's supposed to be, so I guess that works.

The CGI at times looks bad, but overall I think it's passable. The fighting is pretty good but I do agree that the slow motion and cartoonish blood spatter is implemented WAY too often.

My biggest issue though was how the heroes were fighting, and then camped out, in a snowstorm, and yet no one appears to need any warmer clothing than a loincloth and a cloak that isn't even big enough to drape all the way over their shoulders. How were these guys not freezing their balls off?

Having seen the first 4 episodes there's not nearly enough Lucy Lawless nudity. That one scene of the side boob shot is pretty much all we get. After that she's wearing like these pasty things in her sex scenes.

That's another problem I had...

This ep was also good because of the whole 'training' thing. I'm a sucka for training montages and such!

Hannah was good in this ep too. I was worried i wouldn't be able to shake his goofy Mummy character Jonathan out of my head, but he was awesome..

...and man, back then they have slaves do everything for them...even get them ready for sex with their wives/husbands!

Doubt it. That would be fun though.

Lucretia there's some Greek warrior woman that looks exactly you with black hair.

There is going to be another sex scene in an episode with her and Crixus, they'll be showing more I think

Xena takes place years after this though... even though the timeline in Xena is very muddled. They have David and Goliath in the first or second season, then Jesus is being born the next.

It might be better if she is somehow related to her though.

How did you see 4 episodes already? They have only aired 2 episodes right?

Some people have seen episode 5 as well. I guess they leaked somewhere. I know some people were PMing each other links on IMDb. I didn't ask though.
