State of Decay

Wait. The state of your group decays in real time? Even when you don't play?

Started messing around with this a bit today. I've only just arrived at the church and Lilly is sending me to the cell phone tower to look for a source of meds but I haven't told her that I am afraid to go outside.

^^Hahaha

One thing i love about this game that it can get genuinely very tense!

Lotsa 'oh, crap!'moments!

hahaha i was also surpised when i found out (the hard way!) that the simulation keeps your game running even when you're not playing.

But it also what made the game so interesting, and very immersing!

And yeah...them fat bastards!( or 'one of 'em Miller boys! like they said in the game) there's only one good strategy whit them: avoid at all costs!

The things that get me are the ferals. I hate those things.

Ferals are easier to deal with than the fat bastards...just don't EVER try to shoot them unless you've got gun perk.

Fat bastards...well, i hit one of 'em with a pick up truck until it freakin'explode and he still doesn't die

Found that one out at the worst possible time too. :csad: I wish a follower could take a rutsack as well. it sucks there's more than one to take and the location is in the middle of nowhere.

If you got enough influence, you can actually call in scavengers to pick up whatever else that you can't pick up in that location.

If you call in scavenger, someone from your group will go to that location and picks up the rest.

It cost only 10 influence point to call a scavenger, so it shouldn't be a problem.

This game is pretty deep. I'm having trouble keeping track of it all. I almost got Marcus killed last night*, after Maya disappeared on me but she somehow ended up back at the church.

Also I'm afraid I'm relying on cars too much.

*first encounter with a feral, those things *are* nasty

My Marcus died on a scav run in one game. So I'm a little cautious about using them too far from base.

And yeah, Ferals solo is a no-no.

Here's a tip for getting more resources out of buildings and such.

When you search a building, lets say there are two rucksacks of building materials. You grab the first one and take it back to your base. Then come back, make sure there are no other resources there besides the materials one that you want, and call for a scavenger. After the "scavengers inbound" message appears, grab the last rucksack and leave. The scavenger will still go to that place and the game will spawn a rucksack for him to take. And so then you can get one extra rucksack per place.

Marcus died on my last playthrough. We ( maya and marcus) were on our way to rescue an ally, when we ran into a zombie horde. W've got no choice but to fight, but our fight alerted ANOTHER horde...before we knew it we were fighting dozens of zombies! Maya managed to get away, but seconds later heard an explosion. Marcus blew himself up and took out the remaining zombies with him...

R.I.P Marcus

Sorry to hear that man. I havent lost marcus yet in any playthrough. But I've lost Maya the same way three times. :( lol. First two times she was killed by ferals. Then the other day i was playing breakdown with her and i got into the safety of my base on level 5, and set my controller down to send a text real quick. Then all of a sudden a feral comes barging into my base and kills her instantly. :p

Funny thing is...Marcus death didn't really bothered me. It was the death of another one of my playable character that upset me so much, i immidiately started a new game after her death.

Now i forgot her name, but it was one of the nerds in the survivor group. What caught my attention was the description of her character: 'been preparing for zombie holocaust...through her XBOX!'

Hehe

My main character was always Maya....and Karen Tolbert and her frying pan!

Funny how after playing awhile, you sorta get attached to the characters.

So...what's your 'holy crap!' moments so far?

Not many straight up jump scares but every now and then i will just get completely swamped with zombies and ill just barely make it to a car. Thats when it gets scary.

I just finished looting a house, opened the door and came face to face with one of the fat bastard!

Or one time when i tried to sneak past a house, a screamer saw me and before i knew it,got a dozen zombies afer me...including aferal!

Zombies straight up snatching me out of my car, hood style. Didn't help a fat bastard was in the mix as well. I'm kinda attached to Mya, Marcus, and one other woma, she's a army medic her name escapes me.

^^ ferals got a habit of snatching you out of your car too...in an instant! hated that.

I think i also got that female army medic on my survivor group. Forgot her name too...

Naver forgot one instant where me and karen Tolbert ( the woman with frying pan) went after a fat bastard. I ended up shooting that fat bastard numerous times with shotgun before he sorta went down. I was out of stamina so there's nothing i could do, but to watch...Karen Tolbert beating that fat bastard to death with her frying pan!

Needles to say, that was one of the most memorable moments in the game for me:oldrazz:

It does generate a lot of cool stories via emergent narrative. It's a lot like GTA in that regard. (I wish the cars felt as solid as they do in GTA)

Annoying at reading some of the complaints about this.

"Too many missions! How am I supposed to complete all these?"

"I hate enclaves, I wish people would just join me automatically!"

Inevitable someone points out that being harried and having to make tough choices is part of the genre, and some idiot will respond with crap like "It isn't good game design" or "it's a broken system" becasue you have to make choices between rescue/scavenger missions.

And then I throw up my hands because stupid people are apparently eternal. Do these losers really want a game to hold their hand every single step of the way? Have we really reached the point where exploration and choice is considered a hindrance?

Goddamn. The game has some problems but beign a railroad is not one of them.

Haha..where did you read those comments?

I'm fairly new to this gaming thing, but i've already learned to take gamers complaints with grains of salt. It's one of those things that i hate about gamers....overblown sense of self entitlements. If one of game elements thay didn't like, then the game is 'broken' according to them.

I don't even remember, I was just googling around about the game and got frustrated.

I can understand feeling like things are out of control, I felt that way too early on but after logging a few hours you realize the story missions will wait for you, and many of the side mission will autoresolve in your favor. Some don't, but it wouldn't be a proper zombie apocalypse if everything were puppies and rainbows all the time.

I just thought they were some really dumb things to complain about. If you don't like games where you have to make hard choices why would you play one? Stick to your fps's and other railroady shooters and stop *****ing.

In other news I moved from the church to the trucking warehouse and have all my tier 1 facilities constructed. I've collected about 20 survivors at this point and so far have yet to lose anyone, though there have been a couple VERY close calls. Marcus got jumped by another feral and managed to beat it to death with a tree branch lol. That guy is a beast. And Karen busted open a warehouse door right into a crowd of about ten zeds. Yikes! I was sure she was a goner but she got away and firebombed them with just a shred of health left. So I have grown to like her underdogness. She might be a halfwit alky but she's my halfwit alky.
