State Your Opinion On A TV Show

My love for Doctor Who knows no bounds. I've seen at least one episode from every incarnation of the Doctor and they all had qualities that I like about them but since Eccleston was my first doctor, he holds a special place in my heart. Doctor Who along with BSG (the re-imagined series of course) are two of my favorite sci-fi TV series.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

I like Larry as a writer, but as an actor/character, he just grates on my nerves. So I can and do enjoy this show...in small doses.

You have to wonder how much of that is intentional, though. Like, in the Curb-verse Larry is supposed to be pretty much the most annying, hated man in LA at this stage. :hehe:

Love Curb. It's extremely formulaic ep to ep but it's hilarious.

I love Curb. Larry makes me cringe and laugh so hard with his antics. I also love Jeff and Suzie. They are such bad actors but seeing them holding back from laughing makes them really funny to me.

I hope Larry David makes a few more seasons.

I know, I just can't take it sometimes, lol.

I love Curb. It has the same brand of humor as Seinfeld (one of my top three favorite shows ever), but still forms its own identity as a show in that Larry is way more likable than the characters on Seinfeld. While most Seinfeld plots were basically about bad people failing at things due to their own selfishness (which I think extends to be a reflection of how self-centered a lot of sitcom characters really are), the crux of Curb is usually that actions Larry thinks are (or should be) normal and acceptable make him a social pariah. I really like the thematic difference; it keeps Curb from living in Seinfeld's shadow.

First off.. to Weiner for creating this magnificent series.

It’s real engrossing and both the acting and the production design are top-notch. It peels away the layers of its characters slowly and with precision, never making the characters do anything that feels forced or out of character. This is why is has an admittedly slow pace but after time it becomes almost hypnotic and the payoffs are huge.

It's weird how I found the show, I dreamt of the first scene of Don Draper in the first episode talking to the waiter about cigarettes and that the waiter preferred Old Gold cigarettes instead of Lucky Strikes, I didn’t remember so much afterwards but I went searching around new shows that just have premiered and as soon as I saw the description for this I was thinking, this must be it, and yep, as I’ve watched the first scene I was like, ”this was the one I dreamt about!”. So I feel like, me watching the show was meant to be. :o

I am consistently mesmerized by this show. Love every second of it.

I understand why people like it. It's not my kind of show though.

Mad Men is, in my opinion, one of the greatest television shows of all time, and is certainly one of the best television shows to come out in the last ten years.

Not many shows deal with institutionalized racism and sexism in a manner that is both so blunt and nuanced, and the core theme of people who are unsatisfied with their lives clinging on to arbitrary social constructs and institutions to give themselves meaning is brilliant, both as an examination of the toxic aspects of 60s culture and in a way that's timeless in its applicability.

I also really appreciate how it's kind of the anti-lost. We've seen a shift towards more serialized storytelling, which I think is great, but I also really like how Mad Men has gone in the opposite direction. At times it's so episodic that multiple plots will begin and end during one episode. The long term continuity is in the characters and their emotional struggles and how they develop or fail to develop, and the events in their lives are mainly there to support that.

Also, it's making 60s fashion popular again. :woot:

I've tried to watch Dexter, I just can't get into it. I like the idea of a serial killer who murders other murders, I just can't seem to find it interesting.
