Steve Jobs has died

^Eh, IMO he wasn't exactly a celebrity. Well recognized and brilliant, sure, but not exactly a celebrity.
One thing I was glad for was that it was reported via Apple themselves, not TMZ. And they didn't exactly share the morbid details either. We don't even know if he actually died of cancer, but it's a very good assumption.

Then all the deaths do. Or is Jobs just more important than anyone else?
Um, yeah? :o

RIP Steve. A true innovator and genius. Great American mind that changed the world!

We did a number of case studies on Jobs in school for a few classes, truly a brilliant man who did more to change the world than most living today, he will be missed. :(

You can play devil's advocite all you want....but Steve Jobs is more worthy in this world then Heath Ledger, or Amy Winehouse, or any other celeb death.

I mean, when anyone dies, it's sad....but this is kind of big. Pretty much a fact.

Exactly. One of the great minds of our time. Sad to see him go

RIP Steve Jobs

So he's more worthy of attention than you, also?

Steve Jobs was a man. He had a family, friends, and people that cared for him and who are mourning him as we debate. The fact that he did a great many things and advanced technology is moot in regards to that. If one life deserves the attention, then all of them do. It's not playing the devil's advocate, it's truth.

Hell yeah he's worth more then me. Way, WAAAAY more. I haven't done anything in this world. Nothing.

He's changed everything pretty much. Therefore....worth more.

That makes me sad, but whatever man, I'm not gonna continue this so I don't get another infraction for disagreeing with most people's reactions to another thing that happened in the news.

Statement from Pixar:

"Steve Jobs was an extraordinary visionary, our very dear friend and the guiding light of the Pixar family. He saw the potential of what Pixar could be before the rest of us, and beyond what anyone ever imagined. Steve took a chance on us and believed in our crazy dream of making computer animated films; the one thing he always said was to simply 'make it great.' He is why Pixar turned out the way we did and his strength, integrity and love of life has made us all better people. He will forever be a part of Pixar’s DNA. Our hearts go out to his wife Laurene
and their children during this incredibly difficult time."

- John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer & Ed Catmull, President, Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios

I knew it was coming soon when he stepped down as CEO, but still sad.

President Obama said:
“Michelle and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Jobs. Steve was among the greatest of American innovators – brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.

By building one of the planet’s most successful companies from his garage, he exemplified the spirit of American ingenuity. By making computers personal and putting the internet in our pockets, he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive and fun. And by turning his talents to storytelling, he has brought joy to millions of children and grownups alike. Steve was fond of saying that he lived every day like it was his last. Because he did, he transformed our lives, redefined entire industries, and achieved one of the rarest feats in human history: he changed the way each of us sees the world.

The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve’s success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented. Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to Steve’s wife Laurene, his family, and all those who loved him.”

I hope you wouldn't get one for this... that would be ****ing ********.

You disagreed, and made a valid point...I disagree with it....It frustrates me when people are hesitant of giving opinions because it might "offend" or make someone "mad".

I'm not going to insult you, in anyway, and I hope you wouldn't have either.

A life isn't necessarily "worth" more, but think of it this way - it makes sense for this to be a separate thread because Jobs's work touched every single one of us. People would be much more likely to read and post on a separate RIP page for Jobs than for nearly any other famous person who gets mentioned in the main thread. (Except for Michael Jackson, whose death actually took down Google.)

So in that way, he's more "important" in that more people will care about it.

RIP Steve, for the past 5 and a half years in business school and now an MBA program, I have used you as inspiration, and written many case analysis on you and your companies. Truly an inspirational, and great leader.

I just read recently that Steve Jobs was diagnosed with cancer in 2003!

I wonder what Apple will do now. It seemed like such a promising company.

I wonder what Apple will do now.

I've been thinking about this as well. When Jobs left Apple in the 80's, the company really took a nose dive. And then when he came back, they were awesome again and more popular than ever.

RIP, good sir. If there is a heaven, I no doubt think he's already improving it.

Wow, just found out. R.I.P to the Walt Disney of Apple.

Steve is in the grid now...

RIP

We would be very different without his ideas.

I was really touched by this. :(

Jobs transcended humans a while ago. Even when he was ill in his last years his face showed someone who had come to terms with their ailment and was at peace.

Wherever his energy is, it's still strong as ever. :)

I think they have many other things planned to come down the pipeline before Steve left. He's been preparing for this, I'm sure.

And the resurgence of Apple owes a lot to Jobs finding industrial designer Jonathan Ive in a basement at Apple and bringing him and his work to the forefront of the company. The iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, all the notebooks...those were all designed by Ive. So if Ive is still there, I think the current innovative look of Apple's products will stay.
