Comics Steve Wacker asks the fans what they want...Already?!

I've been thinking about that alot lately. I mean, we can all agree that Harry was basically a good person, right? Sure, he had some mental and emotional issues, but that was because of his abusive father.

So...dont good people go to heaven when they die? How does Mephisto have the ability to snatch a good soul out of heaven and place it back on earth?

I love bleeding hearts.

Maybe it's not really Harry...

Or maybe Harry wasn't as good as we all thought he was...

I love a good mystery though...

:yay:

Uh... who says there's a heaven?

I was going to drop this, but I found the tone of your reply sort of arrogant. How is your opinion more valid than mine? I hate getting into theological discussions, because I'm an atheist, but what's the criteria for getting into this Marvel Heaven? Did Ben Reilly go to Heaven, even though he's a clone? Did Vision or Jocasta or Ultron go to heaven when they die (for whatever brief periods of time) even though they're robots? Do aliens go to heaven, like Captain Marvel who was a kree? Do dogs and cats go to heaven? Do flies? How about bacteria and viruses? They're all living things. That's why I find the whole concept inane and inexplicable, in this world or the MU.

Anyway, flame away. But if you're going to say I'm wrong, atleast don't be smug about it.

Uh...who says there's a Mephisto?

If Joe is asking us to accept one side of the religious coin, then he damn well better be prepared for those of us who accept the other. Mephisto has been shown to actually rule hell in the Marvel Universe. There cant be a hell without a heaven.

Mephisto is NOT the Devil. He does not rule Hell. He has a number of souls he torments, that is all. He's a trickster and a demon, but not Satan.

This has already been addressed in the MU.

From his Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mephisto_(comics)

"Mephisto is a demon and is commonly mistaken for (and sometimes poses as) the biblical version of Satan. He cultivates this interpretation for the influence it gives him over humans who believe in the teachings of Christianity; whether the entity Satan actually exists in the Marvel universe remains unestablished."

Oh yes, i know all about Marvel and their back-pedaling. :yay:

However, he was shown to be ruling Hell as far up as into the late 70's in the Marvel universe.

Also, and again; why are we asked to accept "demons" in the Marvel Universe, but "angels" and other symbols of religion are a no-no?

Demons are fallen Angels. Angels are servants of Heaven. If marvel is gonna go there, then they need to research better.

Y'know we can go back and forth on this all day. As it stands, the official explanation for Mephisto is what I presented. You can argue about changes or retcons since the 70's, but that doesn't change the facts of his handbook entry, or his Wikipedia entry or how creators have presented him for the past three decades.

And who says a demon has to be borne from an entity such as Hell? A demon can just be an evil manifestation from any number of dimensions or planes. Ask Dr Strange.

Absolutely. You interpret it your way, i'll interpret it mine.

Well....you mentioned the word "SOULS" with Mephisto....so that being said....whatever you want to call him...the devil/a demon....what is the perpsoe of a SOUL then??

Or do you not believe in those either? Just curious.

A soul in the Marvel universe is a life force commomly mistaken for (and sometimes posing as) the biblical version of souls. :cwink:

A "soul" is the essence of a person or an animal or anything living IMO. We may be arguing over semantics and your idea of a "soul" is different from mine. For me there's no religious connotations placed on it, except if you wish to project such on it. Ghosts have been established in the MU. The concept of Hell and Heaven and God and the Devil have not.

If anyone wants to have a chat with me about religion you can IM from now on, and I will respond. I'm done taking this thread into off-topic hell (no pun intended). :cwink:

I was just kidding around, JJJ's Ulcer. I wasn't trying to be mean. :yay:

Wasn't there an issue of the Fantastic Four a few years back where the FF went to Heaven to get Ben back from death, and they met god, and it turns out to be Jack Kirby?

:word:

While I was raised Catholic, I see things spiritually in a more pagan style of belief system nowadays, as I see too many "faults" within christianity, and I do respect other people's creeds, but nonetheless, making Jack Kirby "god" in the Marvel Universe is a stroke of genius.
