oh I am for sure seeing this in 3D my theater has 2 very large screens they added back in 2008 and the big action and 3D movies look and sound outstanding in it. as much as I would LOVE to see this in IMAX and I may in the near future seeing it in my local theater with some good friends from work will make it more fun for me so freaking pumped for tomorrow night.

This was pure Speilberg movie magic, but the more I actually think about it the less I like it. But the movie has such a fine control over your heartbeat that it's easy to sit back for what feels like an actual ride.

I thought this movie was more sincere than Kingdom of Crystal Skull.

I sort of hope Spielberg will do a movie like this again. Not sure if Robopocalypse can ever get revived.

Robopocalypse is a Michael Bay joint http://variety.com/2018/film/news/michael-bay-new-movies-six-underground-robopocalypse-1202721030/

Michael Bay looks to have found not one, but his next two films to work on, as sources tell Variety he has lined up “6 Underground” and “Robopocalypse” as his next two projects.

Following “6 Underground,” Bay is also in talks to reunite with Steven Spielberg, who hand picked him to direct “Transformers,” to bring “Robopocalypse” to life.

At one point, Spielberg intended to helm “Robopocalypse,” but scheduling conflicts forced him to continue to push it off. The iconic director says he has always been fascinated “Robopocalypse,” but has not been able to find time to direct it himself. The handoff makes Bay the perfect fit, since it was Spielberg who handpicked him to take over the “Transformers” franchise as well.

I went into this knowing nothing about the source material. I didn't even know there was a book until after the first trailer was released. What got me interested in seeing this was the 80's and 90's pop culture references. Being a child of the 80's, I was naturally drawn to that.

With all that being said, I really enjoyed this movie. It was a fun ride pretty much from the get-go. I think the first two acts are better than the third act, though. The third act was too convoluted for me.

Great performances all the way around... especially from Mark Rylance.

Loved [BLACKOUT]The Shining[/BLACKOUT] scene! Haven't seen that movie since being a teenager. Definitely made me want to check it out again.

Overall, about an 8/10 for me.

Mendelsohn did get to mix it up as King George VI in Darkest Hour. He was decent/good in that, but I wouldn't have thought he was a good actor from his bad guy roles. He's very hammy and overacted in them, IMO, not to mention it's overdone at this point.

I agree. I thought he did a good job in the film. But like you I am also getting a little tired of his cliche bad guy roles.

Check out Starred Up. Mendelson plays something a bit different.

I think it's weird that they removed
them going to school in the OASIS. That's what made it more interesting for me.

Did anyone else think that the Mechagodzilla looked like a LegenGoji Mechagodzilla?

Plus the Ifukube remix :hmr:

I've started to read the book and noticed that too. Seems like a pretty big part in the book itself

I really like and thought it was unexpected when Sorrrento
erased everything from the Osasis but then Parzival has an extra life/coin and then use it to continue playing the video game and wins the 3rd key and gets the easter egg.

Trying to go again today and most showings are sold out here downtown Chicago

They removed a lot, which is fine by me. The book is all over the place and very ungainly. I know for pop culture fanatics, like most of us here, it is charming, but as a narrative it is chaotic. Spielberg distilled it to a roller coaster narrative and made one of the most entertaining movies I've seen not only in 2018 (year's still young) but probably 2017 too. I'm fine.

With that said, yeah, I do think we lost a little world building regarding Ludus (the school planet) and the kind of gunter clan fan community. But a worthy trade to me, as I found the book so-so, but really dug this movie.

Its going to be interesting what this movie can do at the box office. So far it seems like a 52m 4 day in the states, and its doing pretty well in China.

I mean, maybe I'm biased, but this is a real crowdpleaser to me and the crowd I saw it with on Tuesday. I'm hoping to go again this weekend. So I imagine it will have soft drops until Avengers open. (Just personally, I feel like Rampage has flop written across it. And WB can't be happy they had to move it into Ready Player One's lane because Disney wanted to screw with them).

Rampage won't flop (neither domestically nor overseas). It'll have a very good BO run.

Plus both RPO and Rampage can co-exist with each other. If RPO can hit the higher end of the early estimates for the OW (52m+), it'll probably be able to manage a good theater count against Rampage on Apr 13th. RPO will have a big screen count loss against A:IW but it should still be able hold onto a decent amount of theaters till mid May. That'll secure a 125m+ domestic BO run. Which will be an unremarkable but decent domestic BO haul for RPO.

It's not guaranteed. Bad reviews could tank it. Even if it does well in its opening weekend, it won't have that impressive of a box office run since Infinity War will destroy it two weeks after it opens.

Spoiler: Someone didn't properly quote the spoiler and now everyone can see the spoiler :o

Anyway I agree that this is a real crowdpleaser and honestly I am a little shocked that it's gonna have a modest opening weekend. You have Spielberg delivering an action packed movie filled with more pop culture references than you can possibly process on first viewing. This thing should be able to tap into the nostalgia bucks market. And maybe it will have some good legs.

I guarantee it.

But seriously tho, I just feel that Rampage is a safe bet as far as BO potential goes. It'll have a very good OW (relative to it's prod. budget and Kaiju/Monster movie genre) and a good multiplier off of the OW to a good final domestic total.

You're also greatly exaggerating A:IW's effect on Rampage. Rampage will hafta deal with a heavy theater count loss resulting in a big drop when A:IW debuts and the effect will carry over to the subsequent 4 weekdays but normal services will resume after that.

I didn't really like this. I wanted to due to my love of Spielberg, but I found the story kind of cold and dispassionate. It felt like they tried to shoehorn a YA novel type of spunky kids saving their dystopian world into a movie about a video game. I wanted more world building in the game, as the movie had some interesting ideas and great set pieces, but instead I was left with a bit too much yawn inducing real world moments. I also felt like the third act major set piece lacked the punch of the first two. It kind of devolved into a cgi smash fest that felt overwhelming.

Overall there was fun to be had, but a lackluster script and story kept me from connecting as much as I wanted to.

was gonna see it tonight but I forgot I had dinner plans with my dad and my brother's family so seeing it tomorrow with my buds from work after easter dinner.
