you do realize that was a teaser right probably made to show what the world of OASIS looks like I would wait till a bigger longer one hits before you judge the movie. I am a LONG time fan of Senor Speilbergo (pun in tended) even his lower quality films have always been enjoyable, I am looking forward to this one very much.

I heard that all references to Spielberg's works would be omitted. But that was a while ago and i forgot where I heard it from.

I think Iron Giant is replacing Leopardon, not Ultraman

I judge the trailer, not the movie. I will judge the movie when I see it. But the trailer was one huge mess. Hope I am wrong, but time will tell.

PS: Am I wrong or I did see one of the bikes from Akira and the Delorean from Back to the Future?

after getting about halfway into the book (awesome book by the way if you have not read it) the scene where you see a bunch of identical guys with IOI on their faceplates of the helmets and numbers that is a reference to a company called Innovative Online Industries (IOI) that is like the company that wants to take over the company that runs the OASIS and all of the 'avatars' in the book are all identical but they have the employee number on the the left or right (not sure exactly) on their chests and said numbers all start with a six giving them the nickname "Sixers" just like how the numbers on the racers suits and cars do. a VERY nice touch I love when they get little details from a book like that in a movie cannot wait for this film he he.

Having just finished the book I would say the obvious thing for me between the book and movie from what we've seen is the familiarity of the pop culture references. The movie seems to be using more famous references presumably for the general audience to latch onto them better.

Finished yesterday. They're definitely going to eschew the fantasy and anime elements in favor of more mainstream iconography. Since I can take one of those in small doses and can't stand the other, I'm grateful for that likelihood.

when I first started reading the book and I saw the cast list and saw they

changed the sex of one of the main characters

but when I finished the book the casting made a lot more sense. but what I do not understand is the character TJ Miller plays is such a MINOR one in the book I thought he was gonna play the main character's game friend.

I think that is what the studio is counting on, the need for nostalgia.
