Steven Spielberg's ''Terra Nova''

I sense Taylor's bravado is going to get him killed before the end of the season and yes the son is annoying.

I sense Taylor's son has something to do with those equations on the rocks.

I hate the kid too, I wouldn't mind him if he didn't act like an ass and whiny brat but he's like a mixture of Anakin from episode 2 and the kid from war of the worlds.

I hope the guy from Avatar doesn't get killed this season, he's one of the strongest characters so far.

I guess that will be the last time those kids break the rules

Dinosaurs running around, mercs at every turn...sure, let's let our kids roam free.

I stopped watching. Just seemed a little too pandering with the family dynamics and not fully thought out (little things, like Firefly's future world having different slang terms than we use is much appreciated).

I will say that the bikini scene was not as lingering or exploitative as I expect these things to be.

It's Spielberg

Every time they cut to the kids it makes me think of these cheesy horror flicks that have been out lately where everyone is good looking and acting the fool.

Like a really bad SyFy Saturday Night movie.

Angsty teenagers aside, that was actually quite enjoyable.

Just finished watching premire. Was a pretty good story, and start. I liked it.

i just really hope steven lang's part doesn't turn into the cliche paramilitary nut job, but i fear that I'm going to be severely disappointed.

It was aight. I wish they would tone down the angsty stuff but I doubt that would happen. Next episode seems better.

I thought it was an awesome start, minus the teenage angst. I wasn't blown away like I was with LOST but it was a damn good start. I have hope for the boy that he will smarten up after his near death experience. I am not looking forward to the wife drama of having an affair though, which was shown in the preview for next week, but I will see.

Terra Nova final thoughts:

A little of "Avatar" with a little bit of "Land of the Lost." Solid acting with great production values. From a writing standpoint, the sci-fi concepts are well executed, but everything else could've used one more rewrite. I don't mind putting family drama against larger events, but put some work into it. Spare us the paint-by-numbers teenage male angst, it just comes across as obnoxious, whiny, and unrealistic when you're surrounded by freaking dinosaurs!

I'll say this, it's better than most new shows on nowadays especially the ones on SyFy channel and that's something.

The kid in War of the Worlds wasn't a brat. He just wanted to fight. Fight his father for the pain he caused him and the aliens for the same. Spielberg wanted that film to be a similar experience to the holocaust for the entire world. We would all want the same thing he wanted if we were in the same place.

The only way we wouldn't is if we were a father. Then we would just want our kids to be safe. Which is where the contention is in that film.

Back on track I am looking forward to this series. Stephen Lang in particular.

so how much dinosaur action is in the show..
what kind of, um, restroom facilities do these folks have? Did they think of that before making the jump to the Cretaceous period?

I dont care about the family one bit. At some point a giant meteor will strike the earth and wipe out all human and dinosaur life anyway, so it hardly matters.

I'll tune in for a few more episodes, see where they take it, wondering if this is an America only thing here or do other countries get to send people back as well? Also people going back in time seem very nonchalant about, well...going back in time, I would assume with all those people coming back in time, there would be a lot of people saying "Holy S**T!" at every turn. I mean some have never seen or barely remember seeing the moon!
