Stiller and Wiig in....The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

This looks like a vanity project to me. It's beautifully shot I'm sure, but looks like an attempt by Stiller to be taken as a serious director.

Could be. There's nothing wrong with that.

Been wanting to see this for ages very glad the public reception seems to be a little more positive

Saw it today, it was pretty amazing. If the trailer made you feel something then you will probably have the same reaction to the film. It is filled with wonderful moments that happen naturally and a few times the way music was used made me swell up with happiness. It was a beautiful film with a great message and a fun story, the critics were WAY off yet again this year. Like someone previously said, some people just have it in for Stiller. This is a huge accomplishment for him. Also, Adam Scott and Kristen Wiig were both excellent in their roles!

Thanks for the rec, went ahead and saw the movie today. Loved the theme of the film—though some of the "text" in the film went by a little too quickly to read so I missed a couple of those. Agreed on the music, some of those cues were spot-on and perfect mood-setters. Wiig was really likeable in her role, and Stiller did a great job himself.

The scenery shots were amazing too, really made me want to visit Iceland and the Himalayas. The part where he skateboarded in Iceland was one of the coolest shots, but I have to hand THE coolest shot in the film to the Stiller vs Adam Scott action scene on the streets of NYC. The whole way that started, progressed, and ended was so creatively done that I was bugging out! Surpassed anything I've ever seen in even CBMs!

Overall a very good film but it didn't blow me away as much as I thought it would. I was sort of expecting an even more emotional journey for Stiller's character, but it was sort of light-weight in that aspect.

The movie was good, not great...I'd give it 6.5/10. Valiant directing effort from Stiller and the acting was good. But it was missing a bunch in the plot

Director Ben Stiller makes some good efforts in his direction of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, but boy oh boy does this film take its
time to get going. There are good turns by Stiller, Kristen Wiig as Cheryl Melhoff, Walter's love interest and co-worker Shirley MacLaine as Edna Mitty, Walter's mother Adam Scott as Ted Hendricks, Walter's new, jerk off boss,Patton Oswalt and Sean Penn as Sean O'Connell, a photojournalist.
I liked the films embrace life and start living message but the film is wrapped up in and bogged down by and odd stiffness
throughout its 114 minutes.

Wait for the DVD and watch on a big screen T.V to enjoy the stunning Cinematography by Stuart Dryburgh.

Scale of 1-10 a 6½

I still want to see this. I can relate a lot to the idea; for years I worked in a really dull office setting and had very little opportunity to go out and see the world. That's one of the reasons I love my current job; I get to travel a good bit.

Near-perfect escapist cinema. It looks beautiful, the music is great and Stiller--who often annoys me--is subtly charming. I hope I can see it again before it leaves theatres.

Did anyone else wish...

We, as an audience, never found out what the final picture was?

That's really my only complaint.

You mean shot #25? Seemed pretty obvious that the cover of LIFE that was shown at the magazine stand at the end was that shot (the shot was of Walter in NYC holding up the negatives), so not only did the audience get to see it, both Walter and Cheryl got to see it too.

I think his idea was that he wished we didn't see it. Not that we didn't actually see it. He wanted it left to mystery.

Can't cosign him on that one, anyway. I would have been pissed if we didn't see what the photo was. Especially after seeing how great it was and how appreciative it was of his job and role. I thought it was an awesome picture and needed to be shown.

Went to see this the other day.

A very very good film IMO. The first 40 minutes or so are a bit uneven (the superhero fight in particular) but is all handled very well. I LOVED the trailers for this film so if they had any affect on you then you'll probably enjoy this. There are some incredibly feel good moments like him leaving for his adventures and the Ground Control to Major Tom scene.
The use of music was wonderful.

The ending in particular was very nice. Overall just a very lovely film, not at all cynical just a film that wants to make you happy.

8/10.

I was however constantly expecting a twist through all the clues dashed out like the adventure was all in Walter's head, or that Sean O'Connell set it all up for Walter to go out and explore. But it never came but it made sense in the end.
