Does anyone actually go see these movies? Every time a commercial comes on for this movie all I hear are people asking "Why?" I haven't ran into one person yet who actually wants to see this. That goes for any of those other types of movies...save the last dance, Step up, or any other feel good dance movie.

It was all becase of the dumb movie You Got Served. It made some money and they figured people wanna see these kinds of movies.

It looks stupid whats the purpose?

What's dumb is people who believe this is a recent trend.

Furthermore, why does it look stupid? Fraternities & Sororities (primarily black ones) have step competitions and have had step competitions for decades.

I like the music in the beginning of the trailer. I think it's from Friday Night Lights. And that's about all I liked about it. :o

i wanna see it, but i'm not about to go watch it in the theaters. it looks sort of like Drumline, which i liked...so i'll probably be giving this a rental. especially since i wanted to try out for the step team back when i was in high school...

Not sure if this is directed at me or not, but I never said it was stupid. It just seems there is no interest in it. I know these movies pop up all the time, and they just never seem to do real well. I guess for whatever reason I was curious enough to actually make a post about it.

I like how in the trailer some dude goes like:

"what are they doing?" which is pretty much what I was about to ask.
then this smug little prick goes like " they're stomping the yard...where you from?"

what the hell? like stomping the yard is some sort of rite of passage that we all had to go through.
like it was something your dad would tell you if you got bad grades or something.
"damn it son, straighten up and fly right, or else you'll NEVER stomp the yard!"

I think the admirable thing is that some movie exec managed to stop laughing long enough to greenlight this movie.
ha, dance fighting.

how rough :down.

i was listening to my local r&b/hip hop radio station this morning and they seemed very enthusiastic about it. no doubt many people who listen to r&b/hip hop will want to see this movie and probably mainly for the dance and music aspect of it all.

ha, dance fighting.
breakdancers "battle" all the time.

oh, I've heard of it.
and I've seen it, I still find it HI-larious. I can't help but to think of west side story with the two gangs snapping their fingers as they approach each other.
how ANYONE can watch a dance fight and not pee their pants a little is beyond me.

When I saw the ad for this I said "They remade You Got Served?"

I guess I should have quoted J Alba's first post, but I figured it was only yours and his at the time, and mine would be directly under his.

Well, how well this particular movie does is ultimately a matter of relativity. It's clearly marketed towards a demographic that doesn't make up a large chunk of the moviegoing public comparable to say a film like Night At The Museum. And it's a holiday weekend. Almost every movie is gonna get an extra bump in sales than they would have otherwise. Plus, I doubt the budget on this is anything where they'll take a loss.

Most of the guys in my family were in frats that did the stepping thing, so I understand where the desire for the movie comes from. I've been to competitions at Purdue for years. If you're not familiar with the culture, you honestly won't give a crap about it. Same as me and anything related to rock music and skateboarding....two things I honestly don't get.

Some of the dance choreographers did work on You Got Served as well.

not me. im black and i think these movies are crap. i honestly want to laugh my ass off when i see film based on stepping.

save the last dance was alot better becuase it actually had a better story.

Executive #1- Hmmm...You Got Served made money, as did Drumline...how can we capitalize on this?

Executive #2- Kids from a college with a majority of black students in a dancing competition?

Executive #1- Brilliant! Blow-jobs all around!

I'm white and I thought Lords Of Dogtown looked stupid...it's blue crush, but with guys and skateboards instead of surfing...I know it's based on a true story and all, but they waited till someone already made the movie with chicks and surfing, so they should have known there would be comparisons

Well, there are the exceptions with the black people that actually are into the skate culture, but the ones I saw the trailer with did actually call it corny ass white boy ****. :o The black kid into skateboarding and the white guy into hip-hop will always be looked at with a raised eyebrow by someone.

I read that one theater banned this movie at first because they thought that it would attract gang members and violence would ensue, being that it happened during the releases of Black Christmas and Dreamgirls.

This is basically "You Got Served 2". :o
