In my personal opinion, The first and third Scary Movies were the best. Lots of people gave the third one flack cuz it was PG-13. I gave it credit because managed to incorporate more genres than the previous two films and managed to actually weave all the different story elements together pretty coherently. There weren't too many distracting references either as everything seemed to contribute to the story.
Not Another...was worth enough laughs to warrant occasional re-viewing on late night comedy central.
But Date movie was where I drew the line. Everything felt so crammed in and pointless. Plus, the story sucked. Yes, even these POS' have storylines, skeletons of random cliche's, popcult references and potty humor though they may be. Maybe that's why I hated it so much? Come to think of it, that could also be why I loathed Epic Movie as well. I suppose if I were a huge enough fan of the Narnia books (whose plot it fundamentally stole) I might have enjoyed it quite a bit, though admitting it wasn't great.
I put this in another thread about "Meet The sPartans" but it's just as poignant(sP?) here...
These jagoffs can't even make a decent parody. All they do is randomly throw together pop culture references that have nothing to do with the film and water down any semblance of cliche'd storylines they've admittedly stolen. A good sPoof is supposed to liken one idea to another emphasizing on similarities and contrasts or point out the faults in the body of work it mimics. They do none of that. They just make jokes that appeal to twelve year old boys.
What's the line of reason behind "We about to stomp the yard!"? That Robin Hood: Men in Tights showed us that burley men dancing is funny? Or is it just to use lines that are already dated and will be completely forgotten by society in two years?
And don't forget this train of thought , "Hmm...golly that Britney sPears is a weird one. We should totally stick it to her somehow because that's what everybody in America wants to see! It worked with our hysterical Paris Hilton-getting-crushed-by-falling-black-girl joke, so let's kick her down the well!"
The real irony is that 300 was a movie SO CHOCKED FULL of things to make fun of and the only jokes they give in the trailer are about hip hop dance movies and Britney's mental state. Bravo. v_v
