Storm is #1 in Comic Vine's Top 100 Superheroes 2011

Well then I guess we'll have to agree that you're wrong and don't know wtf you're talking about then. :o

In all honesty, I think Storm is pretty bland.

Yeah, i'm with you. She wouldn't even be close to the top of my favourite X-Men characters.

My top ten would go:

1. Cyclops
2. Gambit
3. Beast
4. Professor Xavier
5. Rogue
6. Jean Grey
7. Wolverine
8. Jubilee
9. Nightcrawler
10. Storm

Unfortunately it got people to come out of the woodwork to say she sucks all of the sudden.Storm is a badass, maybe not a top superhero, but still one of the best xmen.this list has no credibility anyway

Storm's powers are okay. But I just find Oreo Monroe or whatever her name is, to be the least charismatic character ever. Four decades of stories and nothing really stands out about her character at all. Anubis mentioned a couple things, but personally I have no memories of her doing anything cool. Without the Wolverine persona, Logan is still a badass character. Storm is just.... yeah. Maybe it's because she's so humorless. I don't know.

this list did achieve one thing, I am now very intrigued by the wildstorm and milestone universes. anybody have any recommendations on where i should start? should i read storm watch before the authority? or can i jump right into the authority without being lost?

I'll agree that you're probably a really boring person.

lol.... a flame-war over Storm. Now I've seen everything.

Sorry to carry it over into the morning, but I was posting in/reading this thread, and for some inexplicable reason I just..... fell asleep. Can't imagine why. Oh, that's right, it was probably because we were discussing the most exciting character in all of comics.

If Ororo (is that a real name in any country?!) was killed off and replaced with a new female character who had Storm's powers would anyone really care? Be honest.

I would because I'd be bummed they wasted yet another character on the power of weather.

No. You can jump right into Authority.

She's had a few good stories. That Morlocks thing. When she beat Cyclops ass for leadership of the X-Men. Without powers by the way.......probably some other stuff. Honestly, she hasn't done anything interesting in 15 years.

And marrying BP kinda f**ked both of them up.

She still led the x-men in the last 15 years. She led in Xtreme-Xmen. She has some mini series too like Ororo: before The Storm #1-#4 and Storm vol 2 #1-#6. Those mini series are not really something to brag about but....X-Men Curse of the mutants: Storm and Gambit was one of the best last year but just my opinion. If you'll check X-Men Worlds Apart #1-4, you'll be blown away. The story of it was great and almost all Storm fans recommend it.

Here's me reading Worlds Apart...

Me: "Hmm, I wonder how she's gonna warn the X-Men that a mind-controlled Cyclops is coming to kill them."
*Storm destroys the X-Jet with a single bolt of lightning that she shot from the other side of the planet without knowing Cyclops' location*
*Manic checks the cover for Claremont's name, realize that Chris Yost is just as insane, and tosses the comic away*

I read The first run of Authority, and honestly it's a bit overhyped. It's fun at first when Ellis is writing it, but it still is kinda bland in terms of characters. People in this thread think Storm is bland, but those Authority characters are nothing but archetypes. After Ellis leaves it's more apparent how little their personalities are. Maybe it was better in Stormwatch, but I didn't read that. Planetary was pretty cool though. It's a good adventure/sci-fi comic. It is a little long on dialogue at times, but I still like it.

Milestone is getting another look from me. I read Static a couple of years ago and loved it. It's a fun series that has a really good protagonist. Virgil is pretty cool without being the typical high school nerd that is the Peter Parker mold. Hardware had one of the best first issues I've ever read. The concept of a character who isn't a hero but is getting back at his boss is very innovative, but they neutered him quickly, and they took the edge away from his character "for the kids."

I didn't like the first six issues of Icon, but I'm randomly rereading them now and seeing what it's actually about. It's more of a statement comic than just superheroics. I ordered the original Xombi series because the recent one that got canceled by DC was incredible!

I like how the most interesting thing you can say about Storm is that she led the X-men at this point and that point etc, but yet there's nothing interesting about her actual character that either points to a unique type of leadership, nor is there interesting about her character that developed from her leadership role. Boo-urns, Storm is horrible.

Outside of Storm's role as a leader, I can think of a few interesting things about her:

Her hidden wild streak that came out briefly during her time without powers; she speaks at least 3 different languages fluently; she's a master pickpocket; Storm is actually an American who was raised in Harlem during her early childhood, and the only reason she used to live in Africa is because her parents were killed while they were on a trip; she was a vampire once; she was a Norse goddess once.

In terms of personality, Storm is the type of person who usually experiences her emotions fully. She seems to be the kind of person who embraces her own anger or sadness just to get over with them, but she also succumbs to her own passions and sense of love (hence why she's so emotionally open to all of her friends and lovers). She also commits to her duties like it's no one's business, and isn't beyond being cruel for a friend's own good.

Overall, Storm is a very interesting character. Top half of the bunch, probably. I wouldn't put her in my all-time top 10, though.

Storm can sense her surroundings. Storm has sky topography. So she doesn't need to see the target to hit the target. Storm has ecological empathy. SO that explains why even if she's in Africa, she still hit the x-jet flying over the american continent.

here's a scan that may help:

As a leader, Storm is the opposite of Cyclops. That's how i see it but i know they also have similarities.

Without researching, can you think of another female character in Marvel Comics who led a team? Maybe you have some but not as clear as Storm's profile of being a leader.

Storm is a compassionate leader who is concerned about her teammates and the people around her. That's why she was angry that Cyclops formed a team to kill the people who killed people.

here's something i'd like to share. I hope it'll help to distinguish her leadership from other leaders.

I get that, and I know the explanation in the comic is that Storm sensed the X-Jet, but it's still profoundly stupid. From the other side of the planet, Storm sensed the presence of one particular aircraft amongst countless others that would've been flying over North America, then summoned a bolt of lightning that struck it while it was flying at high speeds. The range and accuracy is absurd, given what Storm's normal limits.

Those pages were nice character moments made better with some gorgeous art. But if those were two of the coolest Storm moments you could think of, then her babbling about topography isn't quite as classic as 'getting buried alive by Kraven' or 'having adamantium magnetically removed from skeleton', is it?
