Street Fighter Legacy

I'm pretty sure if they reach the level of support that they are looking for, they would reveal the direction that they are taking. Just from the short itself, its given that they are focusing on Ryu, Ken, and Akuma all three are central characters to the game. Call Ryu's story one dimensional or whatever, its something that Hollywood failed to do with the 2 previous films. The Van Damme version went out of its way to include damn near every character in the then popular Super Street Fighter game, Legend of Chun Li had characters that looked absolutely nothing like the game counterparts. Watching both films, you can only point out a handful of moves that were actually from the game, the rest is your regular kung fu film martial arts. I say give the guys a chance and see what they can do and you might be suprised. It shows that they are actual "fans" of the game and not some director who is more concerned with money as opposed to delivering a product that stays true to the original source :cwink:

The way I see it, the two live-action movies had two very different approaches to the movie. The Van Damme movie seemed to focus heavily on getting the characters in their classic outfits and their appearances right (which I should point out is what a lot of people here claim to want) as well as cram everyone's favourite characters in. As a result, the individual characters' backgrounds had to be heavily modified in order to fit a silly, and at times nonsensical, plot that was needed to get all these characters together in the first place. The reason people seemed to dislike this movie is because it was not what fans were expecting. It did not fit much in the way of 'street fights' and certainly was not a serious action flick. Rather, there was a strong sense of camp and silliness about it which some people did manage to pick up on and appreciate.

Meanwhile, Kristin Kreuk's one put the character's storyline first by adhering more or less to Chun Li's back story. They knew they couldn't feature all the characters and still keep a coherent story and so they just went with a few cameos that they thought made sense. To be honest, I suspect the main reason people took an instant dislike to the movie even before seeing it was because the movie had decided to focus on Chun Li rather than crowd favourites, Ryu and Ken, and because Vega was played by a certain rapper with no previous credible acting credentials and who was not at all known for being anywhere near good looking. If you actually watch the movie and evaluate it as its own entity, it's actually a decent revenge movie even if somewhat forgetable. Granted, it's not nearly as hard hitting as certain Thai imports, that's probably got more to do with Hollywood production style.

As for getting the characters' trademark moves in, there's a reason why this isn't done more. It's because a lot of the moves are inherently silly-looking when performed live. Take for example the movie City Hunter. In terms of accuracy, it doesn't get moreso than this. Granted, its aim was comedy but its point is nonetheless clear.

Patrick Gill has released his Fully composed Ryu Theme Song

Ryu - Dragon Punch

and it is all kinds of epic

I wonder what's the status on the project or did those guys just call it quits. It looked promising

how is it that i've just only seen this SF Legacy short film?? it's pretty badass!

Two years ago, there was a pretty bad-ass Street Fighter fan film called Street Fighter: Legacy that you might have seen. After it blew up the Internet, creator Joey Ansah expressed an interest in producing a full-length Street Fighter movie or show. Looks like he got that chance, and with the complete support of Capcom to boot!

At Comic-Con, Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono announced Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, a multi-part series being helmed by the Legacy crew. According to director Ansah (Akuma in Legacy, Desh in The Bourne Ultimatum) and co-writer Christian Howard (Ken in Legacy), Assassin's Fist will explore the histories of Ryu, Ken, Gouken, and Akuma as well as the dark secrets of their fighting style, "Ansatsuken."

Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist will premier in 2013. If it's even half as amazing and faithful to the games as Legacy was, I doubt you'll be hearing many complaints.

A live action Street Fighter that could look almost exactly like the games? Awesome. Almost the complete opposite of MK Rebirth.

that sounds awesome! i'm glad that we are finally getting some great adaptions of both SF & MK

sounds interesting!!

I wonder how many other characters will be featured? If it's set in Japan, maybe Ibuki will show up!!
