Street Fighter V

I'm downloading the Story DLC from the store. but I'll have to see later if I can actually play it.

It won't be playable until after the maintenance is completed. Servers will be down tomorrow to for that.

Story expansion and major patch due out tomorrow.

Capcom has released the launch trailer for the free Street Fighter V “A Shadow Falls” cinematic story expansion due out tomorrow, July 1.
The expansion (which U.S. PlayStation 4 owners can pre-load now) will arrive alongside a major update that adds playable characters Ibuki and Balrog to the roster, as well as Balrog’s Las Vegas stage and Karin’s Kanzuki Family Private Beach stages, new costume options, the in-game currency shop, and matchmaking improvements.

Here’s the full overview:
“A Shadow Falls”
The Street Fighter V cinematic story expansion is divided into five acts and takes place between Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter III, bridging the events that happen in between the two stories. “A Shadow Falls,” depicts the ultimate battle between the evil Shadaloo organization and the heroic World Warriors who rise up against them. As the story unfolds, players will enter battles using each of the core 16 characters, in addition to the 6 (released and unreleased) 2016 DLC characters, each with their own unique contribution to the epic clash. “A Shadow Falls” is free content available to all players and it marks the first time in franchise history that consumers will be able to play through this type of cinematic experience in a Street Fighter game. The epic battle between good and evil begins soon… who will RISE UP?
Balrog
Announced earlier this week, Balrog is one of the most iconic characters in Street Fighter history, first appearing as a boss character in Street Fighter II. He’s always been one of the most vicious characters to ever appear in the series, using his devastating boxing style and questionable tactics to do whatever it takes to win a fight. Balrog’s playstyle in Street Fighter V puts the focus on his powerful punches, and with the use of his V-Trigger, he can chain these attacks together to deal some serious damage.
Ibuki
Also being added to the SFV roster, Ibuki is a very tricky, technical character with loads of new ninjutsu tricks up her sleeve. Ibuki is a mobile character with various target combos, but now she has even more ways to mix-up the opponent with the ability to glide through the air and toss out ninja bombs, making it very difficult to predict where she will land and where her next attack will come from.
Other Content
In addition to “A Shadow Falls” and the next two characters, the update will also include:

  • New stages – Balrog’s Las Vegas stage and Karin’s Kanzuki Family Private Beach stage are brand new and will be available to purchase using Fight Money or real currency. Additionally, three new alternate stage options will become available.
  • New costume options – Premium Battle Costumes for all 20 released characters, as well as Karin’s Premium Summer Costume, will be available to purchase using real currency. Balrog and Ibuki’s Story Costumes will be purchasable using either Fighter Money or real currency.
  • In-game Currency Shop – The in-game store will be upgraded with the PlayStation Store and Steam real money purchase options, for their respective platform. For players who want to purchase content like new characters, stages and costumes outright without using Fight Money, the process will be familiar with purchases happening through the established first party infrastructures.
  • Matchmaking improvements – Faster and smarter matching, resulting in higher quality matches and a better online experience overall.

I like: Karin's swimsuit - perfectly fits her character, Juri long hair one (yoga pants WTF) and glamour Cammy, though I don't think she would ever wear something like that.

Also, the beach stage is great. With those Rival School characters on the background.

My impressions on SF5 True Story mode

Rashid was the true hero of the story. In fact this was really Rashid's story

Team Zangief is annoying as F***!
Zangief: "Muscles! Muscle muscle MUSCLE! MUUUUUSCLES!"
R. Mika's terrible voice: Pretty much anything she had to say was awful, her voice...
Ibuki's equally terrible voice: "Hey! I have a sorta-rivalry with Mika and everything I do in this makes me come off as useless!"

This may have destroyed my fandom for Ibuki...

Ken and Laura did nothing...in fact, when Laura is seen with the heroes at the end, I felt like I was watching a movie where they digitally edited in the actress at the last minute, because she went missing for over 70% of the story after she appeared, was not with the SFers when they swarmed Shadaloo's base, yet is there during the aftermath...also, VEEEERY annoying character.

Out of M.Bison's three right-hand-men, F.A.N.G had far away the most screentime and importance. Vega and Balrog just come and go, really.

Zangief: "Muscle MUSCLE mus-mus-muscle!!!"

Nash was tight, but he has a real Chaotzu-vs.-Nappa moment at the end. And he dies...again...for the 4th time. Its not comics, but I bet he'll get better.

Urien is here to tease and tie in the Illuminati to the story (this is supposed to lead into the Gill arc/SF3) and Alex has one scene, and is never heard from again (though its with Dhalsim, who inspires Alex to travel the world, where this leads into his status in SF3)...

Nash & Juri were fun. Wish Birdie had more to do.

Ryu literally is absent for a huge chunk of the story, then shows up and OHKOs Bison...the end...

This did NOTHING to explain Necalli.

Karin and Rashid, easily the true heroes of the story. Also, Karin doesn't lose a single battle here. Every character is defeated at least once, but not Karin.

I didn't even watch that. Skipped through everything.

That's...all there was to it. A story. Why bother with the story mode if you aren't going to follow the story?

so is it any good and how long is it? How does it compare to MK?

Its about 2 hours 15 minutes, with about 20-25 fights peppered in, one round each so each fight is about 30-60 seconds long...so almost all of this mode is story.

The story is entertaining, but not...good? Its hard to describe, because I liked it, but its...no MK9. Its good enough, considering that Capcom has never cared about story.

It also just throws all of Street Fighter Alpha's canon out the window (funny, since the Alpha games literally started the SF canon proper and were the 1st games to make story a priority.)

Juri's premium costume is more like it, though I would prefer the hair being up. The rest of the costumes are okay. I mean, they're bikini/swimsuits, and if you're into that sort of thing. I'm still downloading the patch. It's weird to me that I preloaded the story stuff, which was just under 8 gigs, and the patch to activate it is also 8 gigs. It's like damn, how big is some of this ****, you know. The size of files for games are so crazy nowadays.

that's a bit disappointing to hear, especially in re to Ibuki's voice and overall involvement. From the bit I heard from Ibuki in Mika's story, I did think it was a bit annoying. Why couldn't they have kept her voice from SFIV?

Getting FM. Capcom is focusing on the wrong stuff with SFV. Instead making a fast and simple arcade mode with a couple of pretty illustrations from classic Capcom artists, to illustrate the story, they doing all these countless story modes, annoying, unnecessary long, stupid and ugly.

Instead of improving server stability and speed, making interface more accessible and useful, they're focusing on releasing more bikinis. I don't know... Core gameplay, ingame graphics, roster, majority of costumes, stages - great. The rest is complete trash.

normally, I'd be all over the sexy/skimpy costumes for the girls. ( I'm a guy. :o ).

but, here, they just emphasize the "exaggerated" art style of the characters that I'm not a real fan of. The girls are so muscular with big legs, feet, hands, arms, etc.

so, to me, that's actually unsexy and the sexy, more revealing costumes just highlight that.

Yeah, I really didn't think (spoilers about who brings the main villain down) [blackout]Ryu deserved to be the one to truly kill Bison. Ryu is in 15 minutes of the story, disappears forever, then shows up to help...Guile, Chun-Li, Rashid, Karin, Nash...all these guys are heavily present in the story and have been actively engaging Shadoloo, yet Ryu shows up at random to help at the end and kills Bison with a Hadoken...with a singular Hadoken, and the Bison reign ends forever.[/blackout]

I don't think I will ever understand the attachment that some people have to an Arcade mode.

Well...!

Okay, then...

Well to be fair, some people do like Arcade mode for it's individual story and endings. Wanna know what's going on with Ken or Nash in SFV? What they're doing this time? Then you'll want an Arcade Mode to explore them and see how they interact with all of the other characters. There's also the win screens and the character specific win quotes.

Plus not everyone is an online warrior and would probably just like to play the game casually.
