Study says adults are going to movies less and less; studios adjust for young demos

The theater manager use to try to 'talk' with my mom about what she was doing letting me go see H20 and Alien Resurrection by myself. She was not amused that someone was telling her how to raise a kid. I turned out okay, I think....

But I understand the policies they have, but my mom knew what I liked and knew I would never go to the theater for a cartoon or PG13 film...unless of course it was a Batman film..I was totally there.
Most of the films i see are either PG-13 or R.

I remember in 2003 I took my two cousins to see T3. I think my one cousin was like 8 and the 13. They wanted to see it, ididn't force them to see it.

I guess it's true. There was a time when I used to go the movies once a week. Now it's like once or twice in a month. I need to check my tickets tho (I always save 'em), to see am I talking bs, or does it just feel like it, 'cause this year I think I've been in theaters only 5 times. (Well I did see 11 movies at a film festival, but does it count?)

i must admit in europe it is not like that.

if there is a really sick movie and if you are really young then they will not let you in. but if you are 14 you can watch almost every movie.
Me and my friend were 14 when Minority Report came out. It was rated K-15 in Finland we tried to get in, no luck. It was the biggest Finnish multiplex, so they had somewhat stricter policies. It's funny how in a smaller multiplex, I used to go and see K-18 flicks when I was 14-17. Once, they asked at the counter who old I was, I lied of course. (I was 14 and the flick was Jackass: The Movie, rated K-15. Kinda lol.)

You know, those movies are only made because of the Wayans had a name and a script and got something made.

But what about the other crap? What the hell is up with the script readers? For years they were the first step in throwing away a script that was crap, but for the past few years it seems those who are in charge of reading those things are purposely just passing on good stuff and recommending crap. What's their gain? Do unamusing writers actually have well structured (as in, it looks professionally written) scripts? Did a good script have a pen mark on the cover and get tossed away?

Someone needs to give me answers as to why so much droll is being made in Hollywood right now.

Umm... cause they can't write?

Their creativity is stunted by the rampant use of stereotypes and cliche formula so saturated everywhere they go and see they can't possibly untangle themselves from crap writing and think outside the box. We need more diversity in screenwriters. More blacks, hispanics, Native Americans, and Asians.

Well well, I did go to the movies this year after all.

05.01. RocknRolla
15.01. The Changeling
16.01. The Wrestler
24.01. 2001: A Space Odyssey
30.01. Valkyrie
20.02. Defiance
03.03. Che: Part One
06.03. Watchmen
25.03. The International
03.-05.04. Night Visions Film Festival

So the only action movies with balls will be the monthly Steven Seagal no budget DTV's?

I have a better idea, completely retool the American ratings system. Using Australian or European systems.

Kids have more disposable income in all walks of life. They may get money from their parents, but they're the ones that spend it on crap...the rest of us have to pay bills.

Great point.

I don't really think you can blame my generation for crap movies...
Dumb asses are everywhere and the studious are desperate for a buck....

However, good/great movies are still being made. Terminator Salvayion, Star Trek and Avatar are 3 sci-fi epics I'm really looking forward too and 2 out of 3 of them are in no way kids stuff...

Two of them is PG-13, which is the point some of us are underlining.

But a R wouldn't really get you much more than extra the satisfaction at seeing a Terminator punch a guy through the chest and rip his heart..... oh.... I see...

Then again, violence gets a free pass in American media... just don't expect to rain blood which

I envy some of you older guys... the 80's were truly awesome....

It's not just the gore. The Road is not a gory novel but there are such horrifying and sickening visuals and ideas that would never get PG-13. T4 takes plce in the same kind of universe but has been cleaned up for kids.

Not to mention it should've been Black Hawk Down with robots instead of Somalis. Not Transformers 1.5.

Can't argue with you there....
There some powerful people in Hollywood right now that could actually shut the MPAA up
The question is, would you rather have a PG-13 movie with R rated visuals

(Imagine Cameron likes TS ... ALOT! And orders McG to go full blown R with the sequels and pressures the MPAA for a lower rating... something similar has actually happened...)

OR a R movie with R visuals but does not earn much due to the taboo associated with the rating... this is what happened to Watchmen....
When a movie is lauded by ROGER EBERT! and doesn't earn much... you know it is the fault of the public perception.... oh and "BLUE PENIS!! LULZ!" jokes...
