I find it interesting to look at two of the great villians of World War II.

Germany is extremely sensitive to it to the point denying the holocaust happened is an actual crime. They are still paying for the crimes their grandparents and now great-grandparents committed although their financial debt is paid off, they are still regularly reminded of being the country where Nazis came from and the ones who started it.

Japan on the other hand seems to have trouble accepting it even did anything wrong in the first place. They have shrines and memorials to not just their war dead (which I can understand, soldiers are not the policymakers and not the leadership), those who were the leaders or perpetrators of war crimes also have shrines, which is something not as easy to accept. Getting an apology or an admittance from them is virtually impossible.

It is interesting how many Japanese pop culture franchises we take for granted on the Hype can be viewed as veiled Axis-power revisionist propaganda: Godzilla, Macross/Robotech, Akira, etc.

To be fair to the Japanese they do have a totally different mindset than most places in the world.

This Man Thinks His Time Is Worth $40 Per Minute

btw0bo7dko9jydktoq2q.png

Meet Joe Gebbia. Joe founded Airbnb with another guy in 2008, and still works there. Airbnb is doing well, and maybe someday it'll be a valuable public company. For now, would you like to pay $2,500 to Skype with Joe for 60 minutes?

"Joe will provide guidance on topics related to entrepreneurship: getting an idea started, growing a company, design, etc.," reads the description at Charitybuzz, which hopes to auction off an hour of this man's life to support the The Tyra Banks TZone Foundation. What a sentence.

There are a lot of suppositions involved here. One is that Joe Gebia can provide you with anything approaching meaningful "guidance" in the span of an hour, of any sort whatsoever. I don't think you can walk someone through the assembly of an Ikea bookshelf in an hour, to say nothing of corporate structure and coming up with a billion dollar startup.

Who's even to say that Joe Gebbia is particularly good at expressing these things to someone else—to some idiot like you or me? Can market wisdom be imbued? Is it innate, like morality, blond hair, or large hips? Can you teach a miracle? Did Airbnb arrive in Joe Gebbia's brainpan after a Skype sesh? Is this paying it forward, and forward, and forward? Will the winner of the auction have to provide an auction of their time, at some point in the future? Is this just the latest link in a causal chain, or some sort of Aztec curse?

Can you choose what Joe Gebbia wears during the Skype session? The fine print is silent.

Can you choose what you wear during the Skype session? Can you use FaceTime instead of Skype?

Why is there a "processing and handling charge" for the auction in the amount of $9.95? How can a $2,500 Skype session be handled? With the hands of God?

What if the final bid is $5,000—will the Skype session be extended to two hours? Indefinitely? Joe Gebbia is potentially staring down a millennium of Skyping with some panicked Stanford dropout.

Can you talk about non-startup stuff?

Can you confess to Joe Gebbia?

Can you ask him to insult you for being a coward, for being a bad son, for being a bad parent?

Can you roleplay?

Why not just donate $2,500 to The Tyra Banks TZone Foundation?

Can you just stare at him for an hour in complete silence?

What if you co-found a startup based upon the recording and retransmission of this hour-long Skype session with Joe Gebbia (filters, stickers, mobile-first)? Would he invest? How much?

I have a lot of questions for Joe Gebbia but I don't think I can afford to ask him.

Haha this guy! Man does he know how many hookers and party favors I could get for way less than an hour of his time?! I have never seen anything more stupid in my life

Hal Jordan accidently posted it in the Georgia Governor thread. Easy mistake to make since there are two threads discussing it including this one (Georgia's free-for-all shootathon). It's ridiculous but I'm expecting those who defend Bundy's actions and claims to ignore the truth.

Billionaire Tech Investor Attacked in Sext Extortion Plot

jpinx5z0caypwh5dwyux.jpg

Vinod Khosla (right), the cofounder of Sun Microsystems and titan venture capitalist, values his privacy. He's also a billionaire—so if you're his daughter's scumbag ex-boyfriend, you might think he's just the right guy to threaten with naked pictures of her.

An affidavit obtained by The Smoking Gun details the scheme: after a romantic (and working) relationship between Stanford sweethearts Douglas Tarlow (left) and Nina Khosla (right) disintegrated, Tarlow started waving around naked pictures the latter had voluntarily shared with him. He'd briefly worked for Neeru Khosla, Vinod's wife and Nina's mother, and claimed he was owed tens of thousands of dollars after being fired.

The offer was simple: pay up, or your daughter's naked JPEGs are going on Reddit.

Both mother and daughter were repeatedly harassed with the lewd shots via text and email. Maybe he figured Khosla, with a net worth of roughly $1.5 billion and a deep understanding of the social web, would be quick to shut him up with money. What he didn't expect is that messing with a superbly rich person's family is a superbly quick way to get the FBI all over you. Tarlow is currently facing federal extortion charges.

Perhaps Khosla's next investment will be Snapchat.

Marine Publicly Crucifies Himself on Easter, Sorta Regrets it Now

lmr37kynqqocoizl6t86.png

The United States Marines don't half-ass anything. Not even bizarre misguided protests in front of state capitols.

Former Marine Sgt. Joshua Klohr feels he was wrongly railroaded into a court-martial and a discharge. A disgraced military career is a hell of a cross to bear. Or, in Klohr's case, to climb.

To draw attention to his plight, he hung himself up on a replica cross for an hour on Easter Sunday in front of the Colorado state Capitol in Denver, flanked by billboards and binders that explained his case to bewildered passersby. It also happened to be 4/20, which is kind of a big deal in Colorado these days, so Klohr had quite the crowd on hand.

qtclr1qhz8gjuhrvmv4a.png

The Marine Corps Times tells the backstory:

While serving as a Marine recruiter in Boulder, Colo., Klohr said he struggled to make recruiting goals, despite working 14-16 hours a day. He refused to "fraud" enlistees into the Corps by ignoring factors that would disqualify them from service, he said, and ultimately said he could not do what was required of him in the region, which his superiors interpreted as quitting. When he went to trial, he said, he was not allowed to testify in his own defense, and was quickly found guilty and harshly punished.
Sounds sorta noble, maybe. Except if there were a poster boy for fraudulent enlistments, it might be Klohr, who now openly admits that he concealed some background info from the Corps when he signed up. Bad info: He was expelled from high school and arrested for helping to kill a young cat by setting it on fire and throwing it off the school's roof. (He also has asthma, a disqualifying medical condition.)

The more one reads about Klohr's case, the more troubled he seems—and the more one might question why the Corps ever took him in the first place.

In any case, after he posted pics of the demonstration on his Facebook profile, Klohr faced a furious backlash—and began to regret the tactic. "I wasn't trying to be disrespectful or anything, he told the Marine Corps Times. "There was a lot of symbolism that I was trying to throw out there."

I know from first hand experience that the military can screw you ever without any hesitation, but dude really? There had to be a myriad of other better ways to get your point across

Idaho Bigots Won't Let Elderly Gay Veteran Be Buried With Her Wife

Madelynn Taylor, 74, served six years in the Navy. Madelynn Taylor grew up with the woman she would eventually marry in Oregon, in 1995. Madelynn Taylor is welcome to be buried in the veterans' cemetery in Idaho, where she now lives. But not with her now-deceased spouse, thanks to an anti-gay state law.

CBS's local affiliate in Boise explains the sadmaking, then angrymaking, situation in the video above. The problem is that Idaho won't recognize Taylor's marriage, even though it lasted longer than marriage bigots' tenuous hold on U.S. public opinion:

"I'm not surprised," Taylor told the station. "I've been discriminated against for 70 years, and they might as well discriminate against me in death as well as life."

The Division of Veterans Services says there is nothing they can do because they have to follow the Idaho Constitution, which says "a marriage between a man and a woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state."

Heterosexual veterans can be buried with a spouse. Taylor, 74, was hoping the cemetery would approve her request since their ashes would fit in one spot on the wall.
Taylor added, wistfully: "I don't see where the ashes of a couple of old lesbians is going to hurt anybody."

Accused KKK Killer Was Once Caught Having Sex With a Black Male Hooker

qlckvdewnfsgsuk8ie6u.png

Frazier Glenn Miller, the ex-klansman and lifelong bigot who faces trial for killing three people at two Kansas Jewish centers earlier this month, ran up quite a rap sheet—including the time cops caught him in a car having sex with a black male prostitute dressed as a woman.

That revelation was part of a long, deep investigation into Miller's chilling background as a self-styled soldier for the white nationalist cause.

In the late '80s, Miller—who founded the Carolina Dragons of the Ku Klux Klan and the White Patriot Party—struck a plea deal with federal prosecutors to roll over on his white brothers in the cause and avoid a long prison stretch. After leaving prison, the feds changed his name to Frazier Glenn Cross and tried to start his life anew, albeit with just as much racism and more violence.

But now we can understand why Miller was so quick to accede to a quickie name makeover. According to ABC News, his life in the '80s included some hypocritical sexual proclivities:

In the course of their investigation, authorities also learned the stunning details of Miller's arrest a year earlier. Raleigh police officers had caught Miller in the back seat of a vehicle, in mid-act with a black male prostitute masquerading as a woman.

"It was pretty shocking," says McCullough, "because of his personal stances that he had taken and what he was now accused on engaging in."

McCullough says he has read the police report of the incident but declined to comment on the specifics. "I would rather not go into the details," he said. "They're rather salacious. I think the facts speak for themselves and people can draw their own conclusions about how incongruous that is."

Miller was not charged in connection with the prostitution arrest and no public record of the incident could be located. But in a recorded phone call with the Southern Poverty Law Center last fall, Miller claimed that he had lured the prostitute to the meeting with the intention of beating him.
It's hard to know how to process this. Especially breathtaking is Miller's assumption that the criminal (and, to his mind, moral) offense of ****ing a black male hooker was mitigated by the fact that, hey, he was totally planning to beat up that hooker.

As we all now know, Miller was capable of much, much worse. Yet his old prosecutors point out that even if he'd never cooperated with them, he still would have been a free man by now, and he still probably would have been able to pull off his anti-semitic massacre in Kansas.

"The guy was a stone-to-the-bone Nazi," one anti-racist researcher told ABC. "He never gave that up. I am on the record as saying the man should have died in prison."

Funny how you can be a racist ***hole yet when the mood strikes you'll gladly throw all that to the side if it tickles your fancy

Nevada Rancher, Conservative Hero: "Negroes" Should Be Picking Cotton

tcw0lp68dunzhjygylnw.jpg

Wait, Cliven Bundy, the freedom fighter who captured conservative hearts and almost started the Second American Revolution with his gun-toting coterie is a racist bigot? Say it ain't so!

Two weeks ago, the right-wing media championed the cause of patriot Bundy, the simple straw-hatted cattle rancher who wanted the federales to get off his land—I mean, off federal land—and to surrender their guns. He was the new face of American freedom. He was Gandhi! Thoreau, even! But, as Adam Nagourney discovered in a New York Times interview with the old Nevada cowpoke published last night, Bundy's just another unreconstructed peckerwood with a ****load of guns and a lot of love for that peculiar institution of our forefathers (emphasis added):

"I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro," he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, "and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch — they didn't have nothing to do. They didn't have nothing for their kids to do. They didn't have nothing for their young girls to do.

"And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?" he asked. "They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I've often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn't get no more freedom. They got less freedom."
Not that you're shocked. We already knew that Bundy was self-servingly deceitful, and a legal idiot to boot. But you're missing the point. He has the guns and the cattle. Which means he has the freedom. Not unlike Gandhi, who of course loved cows, too, and led his armed Indian militiamen to a devastating victory in open battle with the British after launching into his now-famous "Let me tell you what I know about the Chinaman" speech.

In the meantime, every dingleberry conservative patriot who hailed Bundy as the Second Coming of George Washington and Aqua Buddha has a credibility problem on their hands. Except Alex Jones, of course, whose Bundy love makes perfect sense. Black Nevadans on the dole are probably all secret Bilderbergers, anyway.

Really not surprised by this news at all, this idiot needs to be locked up

That's the third time that story has been posted in the past 24 hours. :funny:

I'll just relink to my previous comments on him. It also turns out his claims are ********.
You got taken for a ride, NYT. Bundy's family didn't buy that land until 1948 and didn't start grazing their cattle on it until 1954.

I've already seen a few of the talking heads claim that it was never about this one guy, but all of the ranchers in general vs that evil gubment and we can't back down because one man said something silly!

It's quite predictable and pathetic. I really can't wait to hear Hannity eat crow since he's been calling this guy the next coming of George Washington. But I'm sure he'll just spin it like the others.

Distancing themselves from him is the smartest thing they can do but it's a little late to backtrack and claim it wasn't primarily about this guy's claims which are lies anyways.

Did you catch the daily show last night? Jon absolutely decimated Hannity and it was amazing to watch. I'll see if I can find the clip

Yeah, it was awesome. That's why I was so interested in seeing how Hannity responds now. He just got fed a nice big cow crap sandwich he's going to have to eat.

And that's on top of what Jon Stewart did to him. Unfortunately, I think Teelie is right. Hannity is just going to pretend like none of that ever happened and go back to business as usual. His audience is mostly elderly people who won't remember five minutes ago anyway(or they actually support Cliven Bundy's way of thinking).

On-Duty NYPD Officer Charged With DWI After Shooting Partner in Wrist

The NYPD's great week of publicity continues: Thursday night, an allegedly drunk on-duty NYPD officer shot his partner in the wrist while the two were drinking at a restaurant in Queens.

WABC reports that Detective Jay Poggi accidentally shot his partner with his .38 at about 1:50 am Thursday. According to the New York Daily News, the shooting occurred as the two were having drinks in a Queens restaurant, where they'd stopped on their way to a Queens location as part of an investigation.

After Poggi rushed his partner to the hospital, he reportedly refused to submit to a breath-alcohol test and was later charged with driving while intoxicated.

The partner, a 12-year veteran, had surgery and is now in stable condition.

Having a few drinks on their way to an investigation haha. Everyone knows you do your best investigating with a buzz

School Agrees to Stop Pumping Kids Full Of Mountain Dew Before Tests

A Florida elementary school has agreed to stop its longstanding policy of giving kids Mountain Dew as brain fuel before the state's most important standardized test.

For the past 10 years, Creel Elementary, in Melbourne, Fla., has given kids trail mix and "about 3 tablespoons" of the caffeine-rich bright green soda before they take the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, Florida Today reports.

FCAT results factor into teacher evaluations and school funding decisions, and the school decided to start doing the Dew after the principal read about its effects in an educational journal a decade ago.

Florida state law bans schools from selling soda.

"We've advised Creel Elementary to only provide water as a beverage," said a Brevard Schools spokesperson.

Principal Kathryn Eward said that the soda was part of an overall regimen of FCAT preparation, including advising students to get good night's sleep, wear comfortable clothes and eat a healthy breakfast. Students at Creel also get less homework during the week of the test.

For what it's worth—probably not much, considering how many factors go into test performance—a quick check of FCAT results from the past few years shows Creel tracking close to the district mean.

These are the people that are educating our children and they thought giving them Mountain freaking Dew would help them on test? WOW

Instagram Playboy Throws Naked Porn Star Off His Roof, Misses the Pool

[YT]8lXdx8athQk[/YT]

Dan Bilzerian, the king of Instagram, is known for a few things: playing high-stakes poker, buying his way into film roles, and posting photos of guns, cars, and women. On Thursday, he threw one of those women off a roof, aiming for a swimming pool. It didn't work out.

Bilzerian was participating in a Hustler shoot at his mansion when he suddenly decided to pick up 19-year-old model/porn star Janice Griffith, "cup [her] vagina," and hurl her headfirst from the roof into the pool, TMZ reports.

A strong man, Bilzerian, but not necessarily a bright one. His throw fell short, and Griffith broke her foot in the fall, causing her to miss another (presumably paying) shoot.

No charges are being pressed, but hopefully Bilzerian, the multimillionaire son of a Wall Street tycoon, compensated her for the injury and any missed work (and learned not to throw women off of buildings).

And that is why we don't throw pornstars off of roofs

Craigslist Poster Busted in Undercover Horse Sex Sting

ujju2snhrk9kah3iyinc.jpg

A Phoenix man is charged with conspiracy to commit bestiality after posting a man-seeking-horse ad on Craigslist.

Maricopa County sheriffs tracked down 22-year-old Donald Waelde while investigating a missed connection looking for a horse to play with and offering to "do something in return."

Cops arranged an uncover meet with the poster of the ad, who told them specifically what type of horseplay he was into. When they showed up at the agreed-upon location with the agreed-upon horse—oh, the things police posse horses put up with in the line of duty— they met Waelde.

He's now in custody, and police have executed a search warrant on his Phoenix home.

Bestiality has been illegal in Arizona since 2006, and Maricopa County has investigated four Craigslist animal sex cases over the past three years.

http://www.azfamily.com/news/MCSO-P...horse-in-bestiality-conspiracy-256623541.html

Can't a man just fall in love with a horse and not be taking to the cleaners? I mean this is America right?
