Can I rant on someone I know?
I know this otherwise-really-cool 48-yr-old lady, and we've been generous to each other in the past, but one thing that really sets her off is the "trophy generation" ie, 20-and-30-somethings, ie people like me.
I just moved and she offered (of her totally own volition) to give me a bunch of her furniture since she's moving cross-country in a month. I take her up on her offer, show up to her place, carry all of said furniture out of her apartment with my husband. She asks if I need anything else, and my husband jokes we needed laundry quarters. She gladly gives them to us. Or so I thought.
She messages me a little later that day, asking $5 for the laundry quarters. I told her I was sorry for misunderstanding, but hey, I wanted to meet up anyway to give you something, can I give you the $5 then? We made a meetup time for next week. All sorted out, right?
THREE DAYS LATER (I swear to God, it's been a whole three days), she posts this angry rant on her Facebook timeline (where she knows I can see it, along with all her friends) about how I jipped her of $5 for laundry quarters, after she was sooo generous and gave me all her furniture. Long comment thread ensues. I elect not to participate, because I seriously have better things to do with my life right now than to take on an entire "old people with superiority complex" posse. One of her friends noted that she should just remind me, "done and done." At least, one person in her Facebook posse has some goddamn sense, instead of giving themselves a heart attack over a simple misunderstanding, three whole days after the fact.
I messaged her, "I'm sorry if there was a misunderstanding, but dude, we made an appointment for me to give it to you, I thought we already sorted it out." And now she's ranting at me that she's tired of being taken advantage of, that I'm just like everyone else of the trophy generation, and we'll see if she'll get the $5 because "people like me" just do that. Yeah, that's just what everyone under-40 does - take advantage of older people.
All the while I'm thinking, "I don't think it's a good idea to rant at someone who's
offering to give you money, when she totally doesn't have to..."
I will anyway, just for my own morality and I don't take advantage of people, but thank God for being able to mute Facebook messages. I'll just let her rant for the next few hours...

as to why she needed to work herself up so much over a misunderstanding involving $5 worth of laundry quarters. At this point, I'm pretty convinced that she's LOOKING for an excuse to hate on everybody younger than her. Part of me wonders if she's been seething about it for three whole days. I really have to shake my head.
, not funny when this happens to anyone. I've seen this happen a lot at airports when I was traveling more....people have a long layover at an airport, and they just sit in the bar and get hammered. And if his personal problem is one with alcohol, hopefully this will set him straight...before something worse happens. I watched my dad go through problems like this....not funny at all.
