Suggestions for a new virus scanner.

Windows security center claims that my McAfree virus scanner is out of date (I'm running XP). It says that I need a new one, so I was wonder if anyone could suggest a new virus scanner.

AVG is free and doesnt eat up your resources like Norton or McAfee. its the best i've come across so far.

I decided to go with AVG, just one problem. I can't figure out how to uninstall my old scanner. Anyone willing to help?

Sometimes there's an Uninstall prompt available if you find the program through the Start menu. Alternatively, try Add/Remove Programs through your Control Panel.

yes, CCLEANER is a must have. use it weekly.

ClamWin is free and the best of the bunch as far as I'm concerned. I run it on my wife's XP install she uses for work. When everyone else on her network has gotten trojans or viruses (despite running McAfee), ClamWin has caught and stopped every single one of them.

Welcome, first time I used it I had over 170MB of crap I don't use. Cleaner comes in handy getting rid of stuff you thought you removed

Just finished running ccleaner. Got rid of just over 2 gigs of crap. I also installed AVG and ran that and my performance has improved dramatically.

This is after not updating mcafee for about 3 years haha. Anyway, thanks for those links people.
