DC Television Suicide Squad’ Spinoff Series ‘Peacemaker’ Starring John Cena From James Gunn Set at Max

I will say that episode 3 seems to be the best of the 3 thus far. It gets a little more interesting.

Yeah, that was probably the best. But I do have to agree with Roxy Striar. I don't feel the urge to watch the next episode after watching one. Boba Fett hasn't been a top tier series so far but I can't wait to see the next episode with that show.

I thought the camera was unusually much focused on Harcourt getting dressed in the beginning of episode 2 to be honest.

As much as I like 80's music and rock, the soundtrack on this show is ghastly.

I'm right there with u if she had shorts and and tank top with a gun under the pillow that woud have been ideal for the situation they were in at the time the more i think about it the less i like the show tbh

I'll continue cause i consume anything comic book related but i have no desire to watch these first 3 episodes again

I'm not saying the show is bad but there are elements in it that I'm not exactly fond off.

Edit: just found out Jennifer Holland is James Gunn's girlfriend.

No offense, but this is being a little prudish about an adult TV-MA level show that featured John Cena practically naked multiple times and screwing a woman he just met.

Harcourt was at home getting out of bed in the middle of the night sleeping in her underwear and was rushed out to get going. Now unless the scene made Holland uncomfortable and she didn't want to do it, I don't understand why this upsets people. And I doubt it did because Jennifer Holland has been naked onscreen multiple times in her career and she's the writer-director's girlfriend.

For another thing, I feel like the show has done more with Harcourt than just showing her as a pretty face or just a disposable sexy woman. If anything, she appears to be the most competent member of the team. The show has also sought to develop her character more than her screentime in Suicide Squad allowed.

I guess my question is, if this is not OK, when is it OK to nudity or sex in film and TV shows?

Yeah it’s too much of an overindulgence. The third episode was basically one long music montage. By the third song I started fast forwarding.

It's not that there's anything wrong with it but it comes off as gratuitous. But since I found that they're couple it now comes off as the director showing off his girlfriend. Kinda like Roman Polanski showing off his wife Emmanuelle Seigner in his films in the 90s.

I think it's fine. I think Jennifer Holland is beautiful, but my main takeaway is how fit and strong she looks. To me it would've been gratuitous if she was sleeping in the nude and we saw long extended shots of her naked body.

Jennifer Holland looks like Game Of Thrones actress Roxanne McKee. I thought Mckee was playing the role in the Squad movie at first.

I liked the show more than I thought I would. I wasn't overly enthusiastic about the show initially because I'm not the biggest fan of Cena and I find Gunn's humour grating at times but I was pleasantly surprised.

I like this show overall, but it is needlessly crude. Sometimes it works because it reveals something thematically about a character or relates somehow to the plot, but others it is just crude comedy just for a cheap laugh and those jokes don't work for me. But that said, the show itself is entertaining and the core group play off each other well. But through 3 episodes, I do gotta say the main plot of what is actually happening hasn't gripped me yet. Hopefully the core mystery becomes more enticing soon. The project starfish stuff was much better than project butterfly.

So overall pretty fun, but grating at times.

Sums up my thoughts fairly accurately as well.

The only joke I didn't particularly care for was the Louis C.K. back and forth between Peacemaker and Vigilante in episode 3. I wasn't offended, but it was LOOOOONG while also not being funny.

Overall, though, I don't think this is much cruder than Gunn's other superhero work. I also rewatched the Jennifer Holland dressing scene. For research purposes. And while it may have been interpreted as exploitative because she is in such great shape, putting on a pair of pants and shirt is hardly gratuitous. And her co-star in that scene was way more naked for a whole lot longer.

Loving this show so far; it’s classic Gunn and it’s going to mesh well with you if you like his style. If you don’t, then you won’t like it. I will say though that some of the humor is a bit much; that whole Louis C.K. discussion between Peacemaker and Vigilante went on for way too long. But overall it’s a lot of fun and you do really start to empathize with Peacemaker despite some of the stuff he says and does.

There's an entire fight scene and dance of Cena just in his underwear before that, plus other scenes where you can see more... if you want to say she's the one who's being objectified. I'm sure that shot was intentional though, maybe even for that reason. I think that's the joke actually. Anyway, I love this show.

And I really wished I could not see Cena during that.

I can't disagree with that :funny:

I do think Cena is better in this compared to the movie. It kind of felt like he was trying too hard to be funny before, it's why I wasn't really looking forward to this show. But he seems more natural here, I actually like the character now.

show is legitimately great stuff. shouldn't have doubted gunn. hes gonna be 4 for 4 soon on cape stuff.

Hope theres more gun stuff in the works at dc. Secret Six :)

its as a good if not better than the mcu shows. hopefully dc does more hbo max shows. shame they are slow to start considering there will have been like 8-9 mcu shows by years end.

I love it and I'm fairly lukewarm to Gunn. I actually liked the Louis CK bit largely because I've despised him even before it came out he was creep. Also that bit got on my wife's nerves which brought me joy.

Anyone else listening to “Do You Wanna Taste It” on repeat? I wasn’t familiar with Wig Wam before this show but I’m really digging them now.

Stroma brings that weird dorky Scandinavian energy as Vigilante

I have enjoyed this series, well the first 3 episodes, and I think Ill finish watching the full thing. I have nothing against the nudity in any form here. Neither female or male. I kind of expected it.

This is not flawless of course, and some of these jokes comes just across like an old hipster(pretty much what James Gunn is) trying to be edgy, it works sometimes, and sometimes it feels like something that I would have laughed more at 10 years ago. So, no this is isnt anything fantastic. But it's kind of entertaining and its well done and looks pretty good.
