I know quite a few of us were waiting for this and the upcoming "Fall of the Wall" story arc in Checkmate and the other thread regarding this was mostly about WWIII so I decided to make this new one.

Suicide Squad #1 (of 8): I LOVE how this comic slips so seamlessly back to the old days of the SS. Yes, I know it's supposed to be a "flashback" story. It also brings back some of the characterization that made me like some of these characters so much and dislike what they're doing with them now. Amanda Waller as a tough as nails woman instead of the tottering on being a villainess b!t¢h they've turned her into after DC apparently decided to follow JLU's lead. Boomerang's shenanigans while still being a deadly mofo. An effective Nightshade that wasn't just a Green Lantern with black energy knockoff. Awesome. New readers coming into this will probably be lost. Ok, let's be honest, they WILL be lost and start their whole "DC is so complex" whiny crap. The writing is still top notch and the art is extremely good, too.

I'm looking forward to the other issues of this run. I honestly don't know if it's all about the past adventures of the Squad or if it's going to jump to the present at some point in time. I'd love it if we saw the cast from this first issue (with Boomerang Jr. of course) in a modern mission.

God, I can't wait for this to come in my mail.

I never read Suicide Squad before and I'm not lost.

Wasn't Captain Boomerang dead a year and a half ago?

I'm glad you're not lost, Kitsune.

Dragmire, this is set in the past. And it's Capt. Boomerang (Sr.) the one we see here, not Jr. There's stuff to clue you in that it's set quite a bit of time ago. General Eiling still hasn't transferred his brain to Shaggy Man's body. The look of some of the characters. Amanda Waller still operating out of Belle Reeve instead of her governmental (while Luthor was President) or Checkmate position. Oh, and that the Squad still existed while nowadays it's mostly supposed to be a no-no.

Such a good issue. I was not aware it would be telling the story of how Rick didn't die. But I'll gladly read it.

I knew it was set in the past... just not how far.

Yeah, this was a good issue. I didn't know it would be set in the past going in, but I'm kind of glad it is. I haven't read any of the older Suicide Squad stuff, so this was a nice refresher for me before "The Fall of the Wall" starts in Checkmate.

Feel kind of embarrassed to not have looked at the solicitations before to see what the whole deal was.:o Modern SS, Cool!!:D

Ostrander definitely f***ed his chronology up.

Identity Crisis happened before Infinite Crisis, which happened before 52, which started roughly 1.5 years ago. Which means, Captain Boomarang sr. could not be alive 1.5 years ago.

Looks like Ostrander's not the only one who ****ed his chronology up.

It's also the reason why Identity Crisis has now managed to come before itself, too.

Thanks!:D That's almost the same as GAH saying it, it means it's good!

I'm always scared of people using General Eiling, every time he has appeared since JLA he has been horribly under-powered and misused.

I will trust in Ostrander.

I just saw a few pages of this, but... why is Murph the security guy black? He was basically Aryan in the original series.
