NYC Gets Spider-Powers in Aug.'s SPIDER-ISLAND
22 March 2011

Marvel is proud to announce Spider-Island, the comic book event of the summer from the best-selling creative team of Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos. Kicking off this August in Amazing Spider-Man #667 (with a special prelude in #666) the citizens of Manhattan—including some of Spidey’s closest allies and deadliest foes—begin exhibiting the web-slinger’s very own powers! But as Spider-Man must stop a seemingly insurmountable super powered crime wave, he must also find out just who’s responsible for mutating Manhattan...and the truth will irrevocably alter his world. Fans will get their first full-length lead in to Spider-Island in Marvel’s special issue of Amazing Spider-Man, available for free at all participating comic shops on May 7th, Free Comic Book Day.

“Back when Slott launched Spider-Man into the ‘Big Time’ last year, he started laying the groundwork for possibly the biggest Spider-Man story you’ve ever seen,” said Stephen Wacker, Marvel Senior Editor. “The price of power is high for heroes and villains. The Avengers, the FF, Venom, Spider-Girl, Spider-Woman, the Sinister Six and even YOU are connected to ol’ Web-Head in new ways. By the end of this story, we’re going to see what Spider-Man means to Marvel Universe and just how far he’ll go to keep it safe...including some life-changing choices that have major consequences.”

This summer, Spider-Island brings great power to nearly everyone in New York City...and it’s Spidey’s great responsibility to keep this chaos from spreading even further! But just what will Spider-Man have to sacrifice in the process?

Plus, don’t miss “Infested”, beginning in the pages of April’s Amazing Spider-Man #659 and setting the stage for the next big chapter in Spider-Man history!

Original Story
: Details of the previously teased Spider-Island arc in Amazing Spider-Man were revealed Tuesday evening by Blair Butler during the "Fresh Ink" segment of G4's Attack of the Show, with the story said to "permanently change some of Spidey's core cast members."
The plot of Spider-Island sees "over 16,000 New Yorkers" developing powers similar to Spider-Man's, including, as noted in the Attack of the Show segment, Hawkeye and Shocker. The situation — and subsequent spider-powered crime wave leads to Mayor J. Jonah Jameson placing Manhattan under quarantine.

Art shown included Shocker with six arms, what looked to be Carlie Cooper with wall-crawling abilities, the Green Hulk in an outfit similar to the Tony Stark-built "Iron Spider-Man" costume, and a character resembling classic Spider-Man villain (and original Clone Saga mastermind) The Jackal.

Spider Island starts in August's Amazing Spider-Man #667, from writer Dan Slott and artist Humberto Ramos. The story was first teased by Marvel last month, following a teaser image which read "The Path to Spider-Island Begins with 'Infested.'"

My first thought was that maybe Pete makes something...or has something made for him...in effort to restore his Spidey-Sense, and it backfires and ends up giving ALL of his powers to EVERYONE in the Manhattan area.

"Whoops!"

Those are awesome imdaly. Could you link the individual pics. The only one that comes up on that link is the statue of Liberty one...very cool. I love the one with Thing, etc in variations of his costume....

EDIT: never mind...I got em

The only one I care about is Ben. The rest never really appealed to me.

I saw Dan Slott tweet about this event earlier today. I love that statue of liberty cover, very sweet!

Should be interesting to see how they build up to this. Knowing that Spidey becomes a part of the FF who knows what he and Reed come up with.

Ben and Kaine were both great (especially when they fought eachother).

Kaine has already returned. And now is some eight-eyed Tarantula hybrid (a story development I'm not too excited about). Doubtless we'll see Kaine again no matter what.

The Gwen clone though? Ugh...

EDIT: Spidercide is also one I never want to see again. Part of the reason the clone-saga gets a bad rap is because of characters like the Gwen clone, Spidercide, "Jack" and the others who lamed it up.

This looks like it's going to be awesome, I've been loving Slott's run so much so far. This is a really big idea that hasn't been done before; the Jackal returning, Ramos on art, can't wait. :word:

Thats why i said i hope Jackal fixes Kaine....
Gwen's clone was integral to the entire Clone Saga, both the 70's and 90's versions....
Jack was a funny little Imp...

Gwen's clone was an even paler copy of a character I never liked in the first place. Gwen was dull, her clone even more so. Just because she was the catalyst for the clone-saga doesn't make her integral to the mythos of Ben and Kaine.

Jack... a bald, midget-ized version of Peter who was the Jackal's patsy? The less said, the better.

The only characters I really liked in the clone-saga were Ben, Kaine and Gaunt (before he was revealed as Robot-Master).

(Oh, and I liked the Daily Grind crew)

I actually, blessedly, managed to forget about that.

And yeah, loved the Daily Grind Crew.

Looking at the Jackal cover in the 1st post, I'm guessing its the Jackal who is in that lab at Horizon next door to Peter.

I'm really burnt out on big events in comics. They usually ends up with a feeling of a dumb Michael Bay-directed Spider-Man movie. Might give it a try if the reviews are surprisingly positive.

I just noticed in that preview picture with all the Avengers in Spider-Man outfits that Spider-Woman is wearing the Scarlet Spider outfit...nice! :awesome:

And Black Panther has a modified Spidey-Ben suit. :)

I'm curious about the Jackal's return but the rest....eh....

I would say "eh" about the rest as well but Slott's run has been consistently awesome.

I'm still protesting the end of the marriage and I only buy when there is a character I like involved. From the looks of it, I wont be buying for a while. Except for the Jackal issues.

Spider-Girl Arrives on Spider-Island
Fear not, true believers -- Anya Corazon's adventure continues.

May 10, 2011

With this summer serving as host for Spider-Island, a sweeping Spider-Man centered event, Spider-Girl is set to make her return to the pages of Marvel Comics after the cancellation of her solo book. Spider-Island: The Amazing Spider-Girl is a 3-issue mini-series written by Paul Tobin with art by Pepe Larraz that will follow Anya's story throughout the event.

"It's a VERY different Spider-Girl that readers will encounter in the pages of Spider-Island: The Amazing Spider-Girl, as the strange outbreak of spider-powers infects her as well... but in very surprising ways," said Tobin. "And when the Society of the Wasp declares full scale war on the new 'army' of the spider-powered, Spider-Girl surprisingly finds herself aligned with the Kingpin and Hobgoblin. Even more surprisingly she finds that, maybe...that's where she most belongs."

Spider-Island: The Amazing Spider-Girl #1 will be on sale in August.

Cloak & Dagger Are Back
Marvel bringing back the fan favorite characters for Spider-Island.

May 10, 2011

Red-hot Marvel-exclusive writer Nick Spencer is popping up with yet another project, this time with equally red-hot artist Emma Rios. The team is prepping a 3-issue mini-series to tie-in with Marvel's expansive Spider-Man storyline coming this summer, Spider-Island.

Spider-Island: Cloak & Dagger finds the runaway duo in the midst of Manhattan as its residents find themselves running amok with spider-like abilities and turning on one another.

"Nick and Emma are two of the most explosive new talents in comics and they're matched perfectly on with Cloak and Dagger…two of Marvel's most exciting characters," said Marvel Senior Editor Steve Wacker. " This is the definitely the book to watch coming out of Spider-Island."

How directly will Cloak and Dagger get involved in Spider-Island? And more importantly, will they be sticking around when all is said and done?

Venom Arrives on Spider-Island
Not even the symbiote is immune to a tie-in.

May 11, 2011

With Spider-Island coming to fruition this summer, Rick Remender and Tom Fowler's Venom #6 will be taking a break from its ongoing story arc to participate in the Spider-Man crossover.

Venom gets deployed into Manhattan to help quell the rising crisis that has found NYC's residents battling it out with spider superpowers. But can Flash Thompson maintain control of a symbiote that has an unquenched thirst for spider blood amidst a whole city of potential prey?

"Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott and editor Stephen Wacker went to great lengths to ensure that Venom had a few very important roles in Spider-Island," said Remender. "I can't give away who we'll be seeing Venom go up against, but they are all huge characters and fights that Spider-fans have been itching to see. Tom Fowler's pages so far are jaw-dropping and there are some legendary bouts -cough- Anti-Venom -cough- awaiting readers."

Venom #6 will be on sale in August.
