Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl...guess that means he's not one of the great ones.

I can't help but wonder if Manning's ring is a fluke. He won in a year with the WEAKEST Super Bowl team of the past twenty years. Manning blows it when it counts. That disqualifies him for top five, IMO.
Couldn't agree more. The complete contrast between his coaching style and Caldwell's cowardly style is remarkable and what really set the two teams apart. Payton's daring coaching is what really won them the game. Payton is the true hero here.
On a side note, did anyone else notice that Manning did not shake anyone's hand? Just ran off the field. Sore loser.
I believe the losing team of a Superbowl is instructed to leave the field immediately after the game.

Usually they make quick rounds of hand shakes. Warner did it last year. A few Colts did it this year. Manning was being a poor sport. Funny how when Belichick does it everyone gives him hell but when the golden boy does it, its alright.
He's ONE of the great ones, sure. But he's not top five and neither is Manning. He can't be compared to Montana, Bradshaw, Brady, or Aikman. In my opinion top five are:
- Montana
- Brady
- Bradshaw
- Aikman
- Elway
Man, you really hate that guy.![]()
I would put Unitas in there before Aikman.
Details?![]()
Also, Mark Brunell damnit! I'm glad that guy can finally retire with a ring. He deserves it.
He's a jerk.
While the University of Tennessee will write it off as a harmless case of a "mooning gone awry," while Manning was quarterback there, he had a female training assisstant checking an "injury," (which he faked to get her to check it) when he dropped his pants and shoved his ass in her face.
Despite his forced public apology, he has since been documented referring to her as a "*****," publicly on several occassions and tried to paint himself as the victim in he and his father's auto-biography.
He's a jerk.
That may be the case, but I fail to see the criticism about him being overrated because of his dad. He is BETTER than his dad ever was by a long shot. The Colts practically have no running game, defenses across the league have known exactly what they will do for years, yet they still can't stop him because he's brilliant. He may be a jerk, but he's brilliant. Belichick is a jerk too and he's also brilliant.
I'm saying he's overrated because he can't win unless the perfect conditions are handed to him. As tonight proved, and many other games have proven, Peyton Manning is great, until the game is not being served to him on a silver platter. Then it all breaks down. Yet some how, some way, the NFL media builds him up like he has two hands filled with rings. I'd say a lot of that is Archie Manning's influence.
At any rate, this sums my feelings on Manning up perfectly:

Aikman played on a loaded roster. It's like winning for the Yankees. Unless it's Mariano Rivera, big frickin' whoop. Jeter is overrated and so is Aikman.
