But how do you actually do it?

i could tell you.........but then i would have to kill you

haha

do you have illustrator?

I use Photoshop.

I also have Illustrator though.

I saw those sites and I'm trying it out right now. I've got the outline and the background, but I can't figure out how to make the skull look like the background if you know what I mean.

Like how Superman's S is the same colour as the background, etc.

For the Superman and Punisher, first make a new layer with the color you want the background to be, and have the character as the next layer above it. Before making the outline of the character (which you should have already since you should have PSD cut of the character only) make an outline of the S or the Skull and erase it. Now the erased part will show the background color, since it is basically like a cutout book, you see right through it.

That's how you do it?

How do they get the symbols to look so friggin crisp then if they're selecting them by hand? That Superman symbol must be next to impossible.

It's not mate, use the Magic Wand Tool and hold alt so that you can select more than one point in case it doesnt get the whole "S" the first time. The Magic Tool is kind of hard to describe without pictures, so here is another tutorial on it:

http://www.mediacollege.com/graphics/photoshop/tool/magic-wand.html

Basically what it does is select the areas that are similar, in this case the S shouldn't be that far from each other, unless there are really dark shades in the concave of the chest. You can also change the "consistency" at the top, to either allow it to be more linient on the associating colors.

how do you do the headphones?

because mine are all jagged and chunky. it says on that site you use the pen tool to create a path then set the stroke to -1, but i dunno how to do that.

if you want, i could do a step by step on how i do it. i must warn you though, i do it threw illustrator, thats how its so crisp and alot easier then photo shop. so if you dont that illustrator, my way of doing it wont work threw photoshop.

let me know

yeah, i could tell you used it for your superman entry in the contest. it can give it an interesting look from a pencile drawing or something already printed, yaknow. next time might want to add some tones yaknow.

Illustrator is vector-based whilte Photoshop is raster-based. Illustrator uses mathematical formula to save, while photoshop saves pixels.

Illustrator is good at creating/drawing stuff while Photoshop is good to add effects and edit the pictures.

ll im using is adobe illustrator and a mouse.

my general pic making process

1)come up with an idea, a character that you would like to use.
2)find a good pic of that character
3)paste pic in adobe illustrator
4)create a new layer and out line the the character in the picture, using the pen tool.
5)create another new layer and outline all the highlights you want (ex: "DD" on daredevil)
6)delete pic and in its place make a square using the square tool.
7)Make the outline of the character black
8)make the highlights and the BG colors the same.
9)create a new layer for the ipod
10)create an ipod using the pen tool, add a grey square and circe on the ipod.
11)using the pen tool make the cord of the ipod .
12) then type on the picture in white a slogan and the words ipod.

Then your done

pritty much how i do it but, the stuff that you want to show the color like the DD on daredevils chest, i use the cut out took to cut threw the total blacked out character. that way i dont have to go back with another layer and add the back ground color.

but other then that i do what he does.

I tried making one of these, but couldn't, and I'm too lazy/impatient, so I came across this one that sums up how I feel.
