Dont know how many of you guys listen to the KryptonFan Smallville Podcasts but he's been doing a ton of interviews lately. He's had Allison Mack, Alan Ritchson, Mark McClure and on yesterday's podcast he interviewed Smallville composer, Mark Snow.

It's a pretty interesting interview and Snow talks about his days on the X-Files as well as how he got involved with Smallville. Apparently he's also related to Tim Daly from the show "Wings" (who also voiced Superman in TAS).

There's a few spoilers in there, and he also talks about the Film studio having a hissy fit when he redid the Williams score in season 2, and how he manages to sneak it in every once in a while now.

It's a good listen. Even if you dont have any iPod, you can still download iTunes and listen to it through that on your PC.

I haven't listened to the interview, but this confuses me a bit. Wasn't Snow *asked* to use that music - by the producers of SV no less?

If the inclusion of such musical cues was a case of "it's easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission," wouldn't the studio pick that bone with the showrunners verses the show's music composer? The latter is just contracted to do the work. While I'd imagine Snow has some creative freedom, I'da thunk he was given some form of "outline" for the feel and flavor of each scene.

Anyhoo, if what he says is true (no reason to believe it isn't), then that might explain why we haven't heard the Williams' theme music as definitively as it was heard in Rosetta. If it's a budget thing (licensing fees to use copyrighted music, etc.), then I totally understand. I'd rather them spend the money on other things as I don't need to hear the Williams' theme to think "Superman." But if Features is just being dinks about it, then I'd be a little pissed.

Whoa! Listening to the McClure interview now.
Makes some interesting points about how futile it is to emulate Reeve for a new generation. :wow: It starts around the 17 minute mark.
Don't want to get into too many specifics, but the money quote is this:

"If I would've done this film, I wouldn't have tried to copy Chris. I wouldn't have tried to sync it in to that. I would've saluted Chris... Why try to get a guy that looks like Chris? Chris made such an imprint. I mean, that's it!"

It wasn't exactly the WIlliam's theme, but it the music at the end of "Commencement" was very close.

yeah i heard that interview- that podcast is good to subscribe to- but starkvilles house of el is much more fun

McClure on watching "Smallville" (specifically, "Rosetta"):

"I kind of remember just being really touched. There was a scene with Chris... and they were playing the music over this monologue of his, and (phew) it nailed me! I mean, like, 'wow!'"

He also wants to be on the show one day too. I always thought it'd be cool having him play Jimmy's dad or something.

In the interview it sounded like the SV producers told him to rework the Williams Krypton score, and then after Season 2 he got a letter from Features telling him to stop using it. I'm guessing it was probably sent out to all parties involved as a CC:

Pfft. As I suspected; Features is just being dinks about it. Why am I not surprised?

Thanks for the clarification, Hulk.

Can you blame them I mean I know SV came first and all but they had plans for all but they had plans for a movie long before then. But once again I can't help but wonder if they would put a stop to just a theme what makes them think they'll get Welling in the outfit.

Hey that would be cool. I really like McClure as an actor. He was in Apollo 13, and although he wasnt in it much and I'm not sure that even had any lines, I couldnt help but look at him in every scene he was in.

The Superman suit wasnt created or isnt exclusive to the movies, unlike the music.

Why must you bring this up in every thread you post in?

Umm yes it is they will have to ask before using it. Once again there is now an embargo in place on Superman just like there was on Batman and it doesn't matter which came first. Look at Justice League it came before The Batman hell it even used Batman's rouge but in the middle of season 2 they placed an embargo and they couldn't use those people anymore the same thing is in place with Superman.

What ARE you talking about?

You're saying the Superman suit was created solely for the movies. :whatever:

No but it is to be used only for that now and you missed the whole point of what I am getting at. If the WB would be so picky over music then think about how they would be over a suit.

Put it this way Avid was Bruce Wayne created just for the movies alone? No, then why can't SV use him????? Because there is embargo on him stating he can't be used in any live action program besides the movie. The same goes with the music and suit. The embargo goes for Superman that the name (Superman), music, or suit can not be used unless by the film dept. Now SV may get a pass be it that they were first but as of right now that is what is in place.

Was the name Clark Kent, Lex Luthor, Jonathan and Martha Kent, Lois Lane, Daily Planet, Smallville, \S/ symbol, Metropolis, Krypton, Perry White, Jimmy Olsen, Lana Lang, Zod, Phantom Zone created solely for the movies.

No.

So why can Smallville use those? Same reasoning.

You obviously dont want to see Welling in the suit, and that's your business. But dont make up reasons as to why it cant be done just because you dont want it done.

I've got a headache as it is. Trying to reason something illogical is just making me feel worse.

I think I'll save that little emoticon there of yours, I can see it coming in handy. :cwink: :woot:

I should go back to my database, at least I can understand the reason why I've got a headache whilst I'm working on that.

No prob. I've given up on the arguments that go nowhere. At least the "bigger is better" debates (LOL!!) are entertaining 'cause I have an excuse to post perdy pics of Mr. W.

...Shirtless, of course. :p

So who thinks Batman should be in Smallville?:cwink:

We shall resume in the Drooling Thread. :woot:

Just figured if they are going to continue arguing over the same silly thing, then we might as well bring the Bat discussion back in. :O :cwink:

If they are allowing Smallville to use the :super: then I wouldn't see why they would put a restriction on Tom wearing the suit for the finale. It just wouldn't make sense.
