And I have nothing but admiration for this statement. The best of children entertainment show mature people as respectable, elegant, soft spoken, well behaved... the good qualities that represent maturity.

When I think of something like Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes I think fondly of how Captain America spoke to Spider-Man about taking responsibility and letting action speak instead of words.

When I think of Batman the Animated Series I think of the time Batman let Mary Dahl cry hugging his legs instead of tossing her around for her crimes.

When I think of Superman the Animated Series I remember Superman encouraging soft approach for situations trying to calm things down instead of unthinkingly throwing fists.

Darwyn Cooke -writer and artist of Justice League: The New Frontier- had the right belief about it and approach toward the material, and his work is remembered as classic.

Where's supperhero to let us know that Spider-Man is for kids? But not Batman

I know this is kind of a tired comparison, but there isn't a huge difference between sports fans and nerds. Both have extensive knowledge of their pastime, maybe even to the point of obsession. But i think sports are accepted because they are physical, extroverted activities. We prefer that.

We don’t all prefer that. I’m 32, and I’d much rather watch a superhero films than a game of football, the olympics or motor racing.

I said that wrong. I was on break and in a hurry. What I meant was "we" as in mainstream society.

Look who's in charge of Hollywood now? HA!

I was a nerd on the basketball team throughout high school, probably the worst player for three of those years. I think the other guys accepted me because I didn't try to be like them.

I loved Darwin Cooke's work. Struck a good balance.

Done right, I think there is room for both.
The more playful, kid friendly stuff.
And the darker, grim, more pulpy adventures, as well as relevant deconstructive looks at the premise.
While there has been plenty of banal, saccharine content, and on the other end cheap sensationalist violent garbage (immature adults can convince themselves is edgy), both Marvel and DC for the most part have done ok balancing between the two, which isn't easy.

If this is true, then I'm an energetic child trapped in a 43-year-old man's body.
