Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad.

"Pump up the power!"

"Let's kick some giga-butt!"

[random, seemly unrelated phrase that changes everytime the character transforms]

Admittedly, I watched this show as a kid and actually liked it. I still have a Servo action figure somewhere. Interestingly, when I started watching anime a few years later, I thought Servo looked a little bit like The Guyver, only with more colors. It was an alternative to Power Rangers, which I quickly got bored with after about 2 weeks.

I thought Kilokhan was "cooler" looking than a lot of the "bosses" of the monsters that fought the Power Rangers (least during the early 90's when I was more aware of them; PR's get revamped every 2 seasons so lord knows how many villians have been created), and I recall one episode where Kilokhan actually battled Servo personally, which I enjoyed because I quickly would tire of the "boss sends one monster at a time and never gets his hands dirty" syndrome.

I liked this show.
My friend had the Drago with Servo toy and it was awesome when I was little.
Kilokhan was a cool villain.

finally someone makes a thread

on a show that IMO defined the early 90's kid show mentality

and dammit it was Tim Curry ****ing badass

I still have an episode of this on tape I believe.I used to record this often.

I remember watching this show every morning before I went to school. It was sorta like a superhero Saved By The Bell; there was the everyman, the jock, the brain, and the weirdo. And the guy that was helping Kilokhan stop them was an emo.

What I always found funny was the fact that the main character had a computer yet the girl on the team was on it more than he was

I have Lights, Camera, Action on video tape.

I love that guitar rift from the begining of the theme, I want it as my ringtone.

I like the rift too. The video is cheese, entertaining, and good! *saves to fav*

I have noticed...no one from this series or any of the Power Rangers shows has had a good career. Except for Cerina Vincent (forget which one she was on..it was after 00 though) She's been in quite a few horror movies...most known for Cabin Fever though.

In all fairness, one of the main characters was played by a Lawrence brother (Matt, to be specific). Their careers all ended with the 90s, give or take a season or two of Boys Meets World and Recess.

Cerina Vincent was in lost galaxy. Shes been in about 5 b movies sense the show ended so its not really a good career. But JYB the 2nd black ranger does anime, Jason David Frank has two karate places, and the green ranger from lightspeed rescue was in Dreamgirls and gets to go to the oscars. Which by far are much better than Cerinas areers.

She's done more than 5 b movies...barely. Looking forward to Return to House on Haunted Hill. :cmad: better not be trash! The 1st one is good imho.

At least she is making a career/living from b movies....

This show did air on CBS in the afternoon against Power Rangers, correct?

I remember the lame Power Ranger knock offs like Masked Rider and VR Troopers.

I remember this series, such a good theme song.

Matthew Lawrence was Sam Collins aka Servo and Tim Curry voiced Kilokhan

I remember the transformation sequence
"Let's Samuraize guys!"
"Pump up the power "
"Let's kick some giga-butt!"

So what are the chances of a remake of this series coming back since it appears the well of the 90s series seems to be the norm of creativity?! Perhaps in animation format?!

I mean, the Japanese origin already has, with the Gridman and Dynazenon animes. Even added the SSSS as a nod to the US version. Tsubraya doesn't seem that interested in expanding their live action stuff beyond Ultraman, so I'm not entirely sure a new series of Gridman is going to happen. I would not expect a new US based version any time soon.

I wouldn't count on it in the U.S. None of the shows trying to copy Power Rangers' success ever really came close to that same level of popularity, whether it was Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, VR Troopers, Masked Rider, or Big Bad Beetleborgs. They're on the more obscure side, like how Street Sharks were to TMNT.

The last time they tried an adaptation was Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. It was actually pretty good. Sadly, failed. And now, Toei has their head up their ass so even getting Kamen Rider to be legally seen over here is big hassle.
