I wouldn't count on it in the U.S. None of the shows trying to copy Power Rangers' success ever really came close to that same level of popularity, whether it was Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, VR Troopers, Masked Rider, or Big Bad Beetleborgs. They're on the more obscure side, like how Street Sharks were to TMNT.

I don't know man. I would say if anything, VR Troopers and Big Bad Beetleborgs held their own as far as PR spinoffs go. I think that season when the Rangers had cars for zords, Beetleborgs really started kicking their ass in the ratings (if I recall).

But the American Masked Rider flopped hard, that I do remember.

I don't remember too much since I tapped out of watching Fox Kids after Power Rangers Zeo. I'm not surprised that the ratings fell starting with Turbo since that's when the rest of the cast left.

Apparently Beetleborgs only lasted two seasons because they ran out of footage from the original Japanese show and VR Troopers also lasted two seasons but each had around 90 episodes total ! I definitely had some VR Troopers figures and pogs and vaguely remember watching the show every once in a while but I don't remember it going for that long.

Hell VR Troopers had McDonald's Happy Meal toys. I think it's safe to say they had crossover appeal.



Another fun fact: Saban originally wanted the Big Bad Beetleborgs footage to be used for another season of VR Troopers, but then scrapped that idea to make a new show/cast.

Yeah Japan hated Masked Rider and pretty much prohibited other countries from adapting Kamen Rider again. The only reason they allowed Dragon Knight to be made was because the creators begged and promised that it wouldn't be like Masked Rider and that they wouldn't mess it up. But it still ended up doing poorly in ratings.

This is what I initially thought too at first. But there was an interview with one of the producers years ago and he said poor toy sales was the reason VR Troopers was cancelled and had it continued they would have used footage from older Metal Hero shows.

Power Rangers was never the same after Kimberly left but I still stuck around for a little while longer. I never got into Beetleborgs since that was around the time I was starting to feel the Power Rangers fatigue around Zeo and I was getting more into Star Wars by then. I just remember being confused that the Beetleborgs were kids who hung out with Elvis.
