So Blu-Ray players are still expensive because of Sony and its licensing fees.

Months later... Reek returns with a playlist that makes Kanes signatures look like a waffle house jukebox... and theres still whining?

i was just offered a position at another store in our zone. same job i do now, but a supervisory position, guaranteed full-time, 2 pay grades higher, which means if i hold the job for one year, i can apply for management. at least a dollar more an hour than what i'm making now, possibly $2-3 more an hour because of my current status (tbd). and, any hours worked on Sundays or between 6pm and 6am, 10% added to hourly wage.

i'm scared and nervous as heck but i'm going to accept it. even my boss, who is the best boss i've ever had is pushing me towards this. i've been in the same store (tdy aside) for almost 18 years. kinda scary to go somewhere else. i've been there since right out of high school

I worked at the same job for a little under 10 years right out of college, but eventually got a higher paying one that was a much longer commute. I went from being able to walk to work to having it be a 15-minute drive. Which is challenging, since I don't drive and had to take the bus, which turns a 15-minute drive into an hour. It was an extreme change, but I found the most difficult thing to adapt to was the switch in routine. Everything else: the new location, the new people, the new responsibilities, they all clicked in fairly quickly. It was getting used to the change in my schedule and patterns that was the hardest to get through.

Then Covid hit and I started to work from home, making all those adjustments moot. Life's weird. But once you get the new rhythm down, you won't even be able to remember what it was like before.

While I worked at the University of California for quite some time, I held 3 or 4 different positions. Anything you can do to move up will end up being a good thing for you. Unless there are some obvious "gotchas", you should go for it. Is the travel dramatically different? Pad your pension when you can and 10 years down the road, you'll be glad you did.

The only thing about supervisor responsibilities is that it is a skill in itself. People learn and function better in certain ways and it's important to figure that part out. I don't think this is you, but don't take the attitude of "This is how I do it so this is how it needs to be done". I led a team of engineers and it became very clear to me that each of them learned better in certain ways. One person needed someone to go over things face to face; another generally just wanted to get a general idea from an internet search and then discuss details. This also applies to the person you report to. Some people prefer face to face and others not so much. When I was part of a professional development program at UCLA, I learned about a concept called "managing up". Check it out. They have synopses all over the internet, but the bottom line is

How does your boss like to communicate? Communicate like your boss.
Don't surprise your boss. Make sure they know what you are doing.
Understand her/his priorities and make those yours.
Don't be afraid to say "no" when necessary. Make sure s/he is aware of the challenges facing you.
Be solution oriented; not problem oriented. When faced with a challenge, think about solutions before discussion.

You are going to do just fine.

thanks @InCali

one of the questions in the interview was to give an example of leadership that i have learned. and i told of coaching softball (little league/aau/high school) for 17 years and knowing that i couldn't coach each child the same. that i had to figure out what methods motivated each player. for example, some liked being challenged, some need affirmation etc. i figure i'll have to do this with the people i'll be working aside as well

What @InCali said CC.

Congrats.

I have this Portugal/Germany Euro match on in the background, and the stadium is probably a quarter full. Which is good, but if they're going to restrict the number of people they admit in... why are they still allowed to cluster together behind the goals? These people are screaming what I assume are awful obscenities at each other. And Germany keeps scoring, so they are pissed. Spit is just flying.

And this is why I love sports.

There was the Hungary/France match from earlier, where Hungary surprisingly scored first. I thought the Hungarian fans were going to go feral and tear the seats out of the ground.

If that ever happens, please put out a PSA. I'm all in when the fans are more interesting than the athletes.

Speaking of athletes, I marinated some beef jerky last night and will dry it tomorrow morning. The thing about eating a lot of dried meat is that they say it isn't good for your digestive system. I heard that it's a good idea to eat corn with it so I make sure I always have a couple of bags of Tostitos handy (I'm pretty sure they're made from corn, but haven't read the ingredients). The cool thing about Tostitos is that when you bite down on them, you can hear them crunch in your ear. I never realized it before, but when I eat them, I crunch to the sound of when the Terminator shows up in a movie.

Crunchchrunch..chrunchchrunchchrunchchrunchchrunch...chrunchchrunch...chrunchchrunchchrunchchrunchchrunch....etc

Quality content.

A Supergirl with short black hair is going to make people on this site freak out more than the time she beat up Superman in the CW show.

@KRYPTON INC. why are all you Superman ****s so gawky? I dream of a day when that isn't true, friend.

Your firearms are useless against them!

Yellow radiation? Black Kryptonite? Phantom Zone shenanigans?

Take your pick.

You can't blame everything on the Phantom Zone, Krypton. Not everyone is going to be as easily fooled as that judge. You're going away for a long time.

...in the Phantom Zone, I guess.

They were arguing for years about the time Supergirl gave Superman a swirly in a water fountain. I figure no blonde hair and no blue eyes is going to make some of them super huffy.

But if it doesn't, then I will genuinely respect their growth and maturity, and will send them a well-appointed ice cream cake.

I mean it’s not even Kara, it’s meant to be Clark’s descendant from the future. I forget her name. Watching the Lynch’s Dune and the Sci-fi channel version of Dune back to back has ****ed up my brain some.

Yeah, people seem to be assuming that it's Lara Kent based on the costume and hair. But then people are just going to say "why couldn't they just use Kara?!" or "why's she wearing pants? Don't you hate pants?!"

...I think that last one already happened. Minus the Simpsons bit. Maybe.
