World Superman: Doomsday DVD Review

I liked this. Music was superb, story was pretty good. Didn't like the character art, as they didn't look at all like real people! (Supes far too chiselled and exaggerated). Above all, blown away by the theme music, which was fantastic and the sort of thing i wanted in SR.
Oh I agree dude, I didn't like the way they drew most of the characters either (well Lois was tolerable visually). Bruce Timm & his henchmen really need to let go of this sick obsession with Jack Kirby style artwork.

Despite purchasing this DVD on the release date, I didn't get around to watching it until about a month ago.

It's a more than decent offering. I was surprised, yet pleased, by the brutality. This story merits it. As has been mentioned, this format is simply to constrained to tell this epic tale ...or at least for it to garner the significance and full conveyance of the comic tale. Dropping the comic comparisons and Reign of the Superman and just evaluating Superman: Doomsday on its own makes more a much more enjoyable experience.

Baldwin and Marsters (especially) did well in their roles, not only in their own right, but as compared to their more lauded role counterparts in the DCAU. My impression of Anne Heche was not as favorable.

The lines on Supes' face. :down

I heard a rumor that Adam Baldwin, who voices Superman here, was the first choice to voice him in Superman: TAS (1996) but he wasn't available so the part went to Tim Daly - who in turn was replaced by George Newbern for JL/JLU. Not entirely sure I believe it though, almost sounds like revisionist history.

"Superman: Doomsday" was beautifully handled. I particularly like that they combined elements of three of the Superman. He was a clone, like Superboy, he used lethal methods for criminals, like the Eradicator, and he was a villain for the real Superman to fight, like the Cyborg Superman. Btw, the fight Superman had with Doomsday has to be one of the best peices in animation history.

Just get a multi-region dvd player and order them from the U.S.. It's not that difficult. :oldrazz:

It seems patience paid off for this as they did release it in Australia (one disc version only) and I've seen it. Now all they need to release are the box sets of most animated series plus "Superboy" and the last "Adventures of Superman" set. If I remember correctly (as well as other things). It would be nice to get the 14th disc (Singer Video Diaries) of the silver pack as well someway in my country.
