Hello all,

I may not have many post credits to my name but I have been viewing these boards for a few years now.

- Big Supes fan :supes: so much so that I’m attempting to create a low-budget "epic as possible" quazi-remake (with a dash of comedy) of the great story that is Superman.

More or less for fun but also to prove my talents as a student filmmaker in college.

Now although I’ve said "just for fun", I have a much serious intentions as making this as good as short film as possible. That’s why I have approached you guys to hopefully give me some creative input into the project.

I know of recent that because of SR and the potential tones of SR2 you guys are all put off on the whole idea of a "remake" as such of the Donner-era but I’m using that universe as my main springboard. Nothing can change my mind on that, just my option and opinion of story.

What I do intend to do though, is mix up the story a lil. Mix Byrne and Birthright origin points inside the Donner universe. And also some of my own ideas. (Note: I plan on referencing the visual look of the Smallville TV show but not any of it's plot points.)

The idea of making it more of a comedy than a serious film is because of what inevitability will be the laugh-ability of the low-budget-ness of the whole thing. You can't take crappy sfx, shoddy homemade costumes and limited set-pieces for seriousness if you get my drift... I plan on using baby dolls for the infantile Kal-El scenes.

I'd also like to include other film references that wouldn't seem out of place in respective locations. For example, Dorothy & Toto (from Wizard of Oz) witnessing Kal-El's ship soaring over the Kansas sky. (Yes, I know it's hardly the same time-era to cross reference but take it light-heartedly.)

Maybe Forrest Gump and Young Clark have a running race together?

Peter Parker and Jimmy Olsen fighting it out with Perry over who has the best photos?

A young Richard White in the Planet eyeing up Lois?

Kal-El's ship bypassing Tie Fighters and the Death Star en-route to Earth?

The Elders on Krypton dress like the Elder Dudes from the future scenes of the "Bill & Ted" movies... They address each other when departing with "Be Excellent to Each Other and Party On."

The time scale for the film is probably going to be around 45-mins to an hour. I'll start on production hopefully toward the New Year or February. I option around 1 1/2 years max to complete it in. One fallback is that living in the UK; locations that resemble US sites are a rarity!

More-or-less, every main character from the first two Reeve films will be making an Appearance. Zod, Ursa, Non... even Otis and Miss Teschmacher!

I've started on a detailed screenplay (first draft) and am currently putting together a cast.

I'm thinking of making the iconic costume out of a wetsuit with an attached cape? Sort of like the Returns suit only less... "Modern?" looking.

Any other ideas would be welcome! :)

Also mention things YOU DON'T want to see - i'd like to make this a nice and "perfect" as possible for the fans! What about taking the piss out of the subjects we disliked about the movies?

Imagine taking the best points from all the Supes incarnations in Film & TV (1978-2006) and mashing them all into one film and discarding the bad points. Thats sorta what I wanna do.

Oh, and one last thing - I need a proper title for the Film. So far, my screenplay draft is under the working title "Superman Treatment". Any ideas?

I am plotting scenes where a teenage Clark looks in the mirror and is frustrated that his kiss-curl won't straighten out.

An infant Clark gets his soiled knicks changed by the Kents and they complain about the super-powerful stench while lil Clarkie giggles away. (based on a scene from that Jon Peters script that was released and reviewed by Superman Homepage recently...)

Lots of power gags (most likely super-strength as it's one of the easier special effects to accomplish.)

An opening subtitle (similar to Star Wars):
"Thousands of years ago, in one of the 28 known galaxies far, far away…"

L’ORI-EL - Jor-El and Lara's second child (a baby girl) that you didn't know about, the one that Jor-El chose not to blast free (because "she's not worth it" - L'Oréal cosmetics, get it?)

- On a related note, have strongly considered using a Birthright-esque ending where Supes (inside the Kent barn) makes a contact to his Parents on Krypton seconds after they blast his younger self away. At this point, he tells them "I made it!" while the very same ship that just blast off on Krypton lies behind Supes in the Kent barn and it gets sucked into the vortex, leaving Jor-El and Lara a second, empty ship - which Jor-El quickly re-energizes and puts L'ori-El in and blasts her to Earth behind Kal. That way, leaving the room open for a "Supergirl" Sequel!

“Kryptex Extra Strong Superman-Sized Tissues” (Kleenex gag) that Lara uses to wipe her tears on Krypton.

Jor-El inserts a crystal into a camcorder tape-deck in order to record his guidance material for Kal in the Fortress. He uses "Koogle Krypton" (Google Earth) to search for a suitable environment to which to send his son... Wacky things like that.
