Is it not just great that we can compare such awesome superhero movies? Six years ago, the Richard Donner version of Supes II was a pipe dream and the chances for a Spider-Man movie were wrapped up in legalities (it was eventually Sony swapping all their Bond rights for MGM's Spider-Man rights that ended that).

Interesting, so to make the Spider-Man movies MGM got to make sure trhere were no more Thunderball remakes and could finally make Casino Royale. Sony would have already ended up being the bigger winner of this if they hadn't bought MGM the same year as CR went into production.

Exactly. Before the deal, Sony was preparing it's own Bond series with Kevin McClory's Thunderball remake rights. Warhead 2000 was the working title. Brosnan said back in 2000, "Bring it on. Bring on Woody Allen as Bond, or Woody Harrelson or Woody Woodpecker. I'd doing the legitimate Bond."
