I figure we should have a thread for Snoke in here, since he is the big player and we are likely to learn more about him. I think this is a good place for discussion and theories revolving around him. I will post my first one below.

So after reading through the novelization, the entire new EU and also the visual dictionary for TFA I do have a personal theory.

Snoke was a Jedi in the order before its demise. He was a general in the Clone Wars and fought alongside all the greats, even those like Anakin Skywalker, Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi. He was a great Jedi, but when Order 66 happens he flees. My personal theory is that he was on Corruscant and maybe found out who Sidious really was and realized that there was nothing he could do. So he flees to the Unknown Region.

Now it seems in Aftermath that Palpatine later on during his reign started to look at the Unknown Region, his advisor from ROTJ said in Aftermath that the purity of the Dark Side was there. I think Snoke ran to the unknown regions just to get out of the grip of the Empire. However, he accidently stumbles upon something, a temple, a relic, maybe even predating the Sith., just flowing with the Dark Side. Slowly Snoke becomes corrupted by the Dark Side and even more powerful in learning from this ancient temple/place.

Snoke starts to find some followers; they call themselves the Acolytes of the Beyond, which were mentioned in the book Aftermath as dark side fanatics. After the fall of the Empire Snoke sees a weak galaxy and wants to take control. So he seeks out Luke Skywalker. He learns that Luke is creating a new Jedi Order. He figures his plan two-fold. 1. Corrupt a young powerful force wielder into a puppet. 2. Use the puppet to kill Luke and the rest of the Jedi before they can rise.

Snoke proves to Luke that he is an old Jedi Knight from before the Clone Wars. Luke finds records on him and accepts him knowing he needs all the help he can get, also he needs one Jedi that actually remembers many of the old ways of teaching/running an Order. So Snoke becomes one of the teachers at the new Jedi Order.

So Snoke sets his sights on Ben for many reasons. One his parents don’t pay attention to him, he is of Skywalker blood therefor extremely strong with the Force. Also he has personal issues, but more importantly he can use Ben’s relation to Vader as a tool to seduce him. Slowly Snoke begins to pump up Ben’s ego. The Visual dictionary actually says that Kylo holds the same rank as Vader in the Empire by design. So over the years Snoke turns Ben, and a group of followers calling themselves the Knights of Ren.

The Knights of Ren plan to destroy the Jedi Order and Luke with it. Before that starts to happen Luke learns of Snoke and his true intentions. Maybe Luke learns of the pure evil temple that Snoke was at in the unknown regions. And maybe through a Force dream Yoda tells him he has to go to the first Jedi Temple to learn how to destroy this evil and Snoke. Luke feels there is no time, Luke finds Snoke and Luke and Snoke fight, Snoke is beaten to a pulp. Just as Luke is ready to kill him, he hears screaming back at the Order. The Knights of Ren and Kylo are killing all the students. Snoke turns and runs. But as Luke makes it back the damage is done. Luke decides there is nothing he can do, but to stop Snoke and the Dark Side, he needs to learn more about the Unknown Regions and what they found. So he begrudgingly leaves to go find the answer.

Enter The Force Awakens.

Highly unlikely. I think Snoke is someone we've never met before, but anything is possible.

I've got a feeling Snoke doesn't fight physically..or defeating him will be more of a spiritual/moral victory...

I'm really interested in the mystique of this character.

A lot of people thought he brought the movie down, I guess due to the CG, but I felt his brief appearances left a lot of impact.

If the writers come up with something creative, he could be one of the best Star Ward characters ever building off of the mystery already placed.

I loved the decision to show him as a gigantic, elder looking creature in the dark

I didn't like Snoke at all. Is he actually a giant, or is it just the hologram making he appear that way? His overly CG appearance just did nothing for me.

I like Snoke. Andy brings a lot to him in just poise and style. But the mystery of him is the whole point. I think some get too antsy anymore wanting to see the entire arch and knowledge of the character right away. They created something mysterious where he could go in a million different directions. That I'm excited about.

I hope they'll do things to differentiate him from Palpatine. As of right now I'd say they're too similar. The old, disfigured dark lord in charge of the bad guys.

He is supposedly 7 feet tall and very skinny.

Same here. They've took a character and made his presence mysterious. I like the fact that there's unanswered questions heading into episode VIII. It makes the film that much more exciting to watch.

Huge stuff about Snoke in Aftermath: Life Debt. If the mystique that surrounds the character in the novel is carried over to Eps8-9, I'll be more than ok with him.

If all the stuff from Life Debt is actually Snoke. I'm liking it and very interested.

It's not what I wish but I'm guessing it's Maul. I expect him to come out of shadows and see tattoos clearer. As to the horns, I have no explanation. Again, not my wish bug just a prediction.

Well you know what they say, whoever smelt it dealt it!

Yaaaaaaa

Bring back the Sith!

The Sith and their cultish like mythology are the most interesting villains in all of scifi in my eyes. Rey is to be the light the guides Luke to restore the Jedi order?

Perhaps Snoke is recreating the Sith behind the first Order..like what Palpatine did. Would it be a retread? Sure.

But Star Wars.. Jedi vs Sith. Personally, I dont need any other explanation. To me Star Wars is always the struggle of the force, the Jedi and Sith. I hope Snoke becomes a Darth *something

Snoke isn't a Sith and neither is Kylo. Until proven otherwise I'm going with the assumption that the Sith are gone for good. Vader destroyed them when he sacrificed himself to kill the Emperor. It would undermine the ending to that story to have them return only after a few decades. Maz Kanata laid it out in TFA, the only true enemy is the dark side and it has many faces.

Also, it should be said that the idea of the Sith didn't really exist until the PT. It wasn't a thing in the original trilogy; Darth and the Emperor were just viewed as dark side adherents. Vader is even referred to as a Jedi at a couple points. The sequel trilogy seems to be following with that while introducing new denominations of force users.

That's not true about the idea of the Sith not existing until the PT. Well, it's true when it comes to the movies, but the term Sith was in the Star Wars script, the novel and comics.

Theyve already introduced the followers of Jedha (Guardians of the Whills), the Lasat, the Inquisitors, Maz, the Bendu... All are force users/sensitive. All have different philosophies about the Force and none of them are Jedi or Sith.

The Jedi and Sith dont have a monopoly on the Force nor should they. Making it so that only those two groups have access to the Force severely reduces the scope and variety of the franchise and its stories and examination and development of the Force. The Force can work through a variety of people and groups with different philosophies and the battles of light and dark can be fought by many different people and groups.

Itd also be weird if in a whole galaxy only two philosophies and schools of thought about the Force developed. Not to mention itd get repetitive as **** if the Jedi only had the Sith to fight.

The Jedi do represent the light side. I think it was telling that Han says the Jedi and the Dark Side are real.

I figured he mentioned them specifically because thats the group Rey specifically asked about. If she'd mentioned the Sith Han would have probably said Jedi and the Sith.

Tho I agree as of now the Jedi are the most pure representation of the lightside. The Bendu is in the middle and the Guardians of the Whills and followers of Jedha dont believe the Force is split between light and dark.

I'm still hoping they explore the rise of the Sith and Jedi in a future movie or a live action TV show. I think there's plenty of stuff there to bring to the screen. Have it take place like 100,000 years BBY.
