Survivor: Redemption Island

The announcement has been made. The next season will be called 'Redemption Island' and is set to premiere next month! In the new season, players will not be going home when they are voted out at tribal council. Instead, they will go to an island and live by themselves with the same supplies as the rest of the tribe. Once another player is voted out, that person will also go to 'Redemption Island'. Once there, the two players will 'duel' for the right to remain on the island. The loser of that duel will be eliminated from the game. Ultimately, the 'winner' of the 'Redemption Island' twist will rejoin the game.

In staying consistent with previous threads...the first post will continue to be updated as events unfold.

UPDATE: The cast has been announced!

UPDATE #2: It looks like the rumors were true. CBS has announced that 'Boston' Rob and Russell the Troll are returning...

UPDATE #3: After six straight duels, Matthew won the 'Redemption Island' twist. Ometepe and Zapatera merged following Matthew's win.

UPDATE #4: Probst revealed that despite Matthew's win, the 'Redemption Island' twist goes on for 'Round 2'. (Essentially starting completely over again.)

UPDATE #5: Andrea won the second 'Redemption Island' twist.

My guess is Panama. Nothing to back that up, but its usually their go to place when the location is not the theme of the season.

Survivor Nicaragua was one of those when they announced the location, I thought "Nicaragua? Seriously?" That turned out well. Panama? Looks like producers are going back to back in the same region. Have they ever done that before?

Well the actual description actually sounds considerably better than what I thought it'd be when I read the title. At first, I thought it would basically be what Amazing Race is doing next season. This sounds better.

I thought the announcement would be something awesome, like cold-weather Survivor. Stick two teams on a small Uruguayan lear-jet, crash them in the Andes and call it 'Survivor: Alive'. No food, because they have to keep it real and eat whoever gets voted off. Now THAT'S a seaon I'd watch, Mr Probst!

It's not being filmed in Panama, it was filmed in Nicaragua again.

And I like the sound of this new twist. I'm excited!

I'm a little skeptical about the whole Redemption Island idea, but it could be interesting. I'm usually in favor of "voted off, you're gone". I'll wait to see how it plays out, though, and I at least like the idea that they try and add a twist or something every season. If something doesn't work, it is usually dropped pretty quick.

Forgot to mention, I'm also totally in favor of the producers/Probst deciding what to do with someone that quits i.e. no jury for you.

No way someone that quits gets to have a say in who gets the million.

It'll be hard for them to find something that makes sense and does little to tamper with the end game.

As I posted in the other thread, if you keep them off the jury you're potentially screwing someone who was allied with them if they make it to the Final Tribal Council.

I just have a real problem with people who quit having a say in the final outcome. Maybe it just stung a little more this season because there were two, and they were at the same time.

Still, if I'm a contestant that made it to the end, I have a real problem being held accountable by quitters.

Very true but then again that could have been huge if they had taken both Na'onka and Kelly off the jury. That would have meant Chase wins over Fabio 4-3 if everything plays out the same.

The production definitely has a problem on their hands. They just need to cast better people, but I mean that can't really help all that much. Even the most hardcore fan of the show may get out their and realize they can't handle it and quit. You just never know unfortunately.

Other then taking them off the jury permanently, I can't see anything else that would be fair to the people remaining in the game unless they put some sort of clause in their contracts that if you quit after the merge you forfeit all your prize money but still have to be on the jury.
