I thoroughly enjoyed the two 80s Swamp Thing films as a child, though perhaps the first moreso than the second. Indeed, Wes Craven's film stayed true to the Thing's initial comic origins and appearance. The second, as intentionally (or unintentionally) goofy as it was, was still an enjoyable film featuring the DC/Vertigo comic character.

My questions...

What did you think of "Swamp Thing" (1982) and "Return of Swamp Thing" (1989)?

Do you think Swamp Thing should be remade? And if so, what do you think the chances are of this actually coming about?

Sure, I like Swamp Thing. :yay:

I prefer SWAMP THING. It was campy, but almost unintentionally. It was just a low budget film trying to handle a serious(to a point) script. The second film is just BAAAAAAD. I cant even watch it for a laugh. But the costume kicked ass.

I dont think it should be remade. A restart would be nice though. Base the first film on the Wein run with the origin and Arcane, have ST try to regain his humanity(thinking he's a man transformed into a plant) and possibly include the DDI trying to capture Swamp Thing, resulting in him getting "killed"

and the second film would start with Alan Moore's run, where ST finds out he's not a man turned into a plant, but a plant with the conciousness of a dead man.

the costume for the second one was lightyears ahead of the first, it was amazingly cool. i'm pretty sure i prefer the second film as a whole, it's more enjoyable for me.

if a new swamp thing is made, it MUST be heavily based on Alan Moore's material. and preferably directed by David Cronenburg

I often forget that Supes and Bats aren't the only DC characters to have had films. Swampy had two. Though I never saw the second one (heard bad things about it) I did enjoy the original as a kid...granted I haven't seen it in years. It may not hold up well. I do remember a high cheese factor.
As for a new Swamp Thing movie..Why not?

The first movie had a good story but a bad costume. The 2nd movie had a great costume but a horrible story.

If they had had the costume from the 2nd movie in the first movie it would have done alot better at the BO. People just couldn't get past the rubber costume to make the movie a hit. :csad:
