Sword Art Online: Lost Song Shares A Glimpse At Its New Characters And PvP. May 20, 2015 . 11:45pm

There will be PvP fights and duel events, which come in multiplayer and single player modes.

Bandai Namco are releasing a major update for Sword Art Online: Lost Song later this month for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. While one waits, Gamer have shared a look at some screenshots showing some of the update’s major features.

The PvP mode will be one of the biggest features if the update, titled “Player of Arms”. There will be PvP fights and duel events, which come in multiplayer and single player modes.

The above is a look at Lux, the main character from the spinoff manga, Sword Art Online: Girls Ops. She’ll be added as a playable character in the update.

Seven was originally one of the key characters in the story of Sword Art Online: Lost Song. She’s a genius scientist from Russia in real life, and is metaphorically considered the light of virtual reality research. She’ll also be a newly playable character in the update.

Finally, here’s a look at one of the new bosses to be added to the game. While you might not be able to get a full view from the screenshot, they say that these new bosses are going to be huge, and you’ll need to be able to fly your way around them while fighting.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song’s Player of Arms update will go live on May 28, 2015.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song is getting a major update that adds PvP, new playable characters and giant bosses to fight. Eir Aoi recently got together with Dengeki to demonstrate what’s new in the update.

[YT]NDXk5EfApvk[/YT]

The footage starts out with the new PvP feature that fans have been looking forward to, at the 2:10 mark of the video. They say that it’s really fun to be able to fight against other players and the characters they’ve raised, not to mention its multiplayer mode.

It doesn’t make a difference in 1v1 fights, but characters have their own roles in player versus player. For example, Asuna is a good healer in the multiplayer PvP, where you have two teams of four go up against each other.

Asuna can also hold her own using speedy sword skill moves in close-ranged combat. Flying around plays a big role in combat, as you can use it to distance yourself when needed; however, there are some stages where you won’t be able to fly, as they have a little less space.

At 5:39, we get to see an arena-style fight, where Kirito goes up against a bunch of opponents with the help of some AI-controlled allies. It can be a bit hectic for the 4v4 matches, so knowing what skills to use will be the key.

Next, at the 9:30 mark, we get a first look at one of the new giant bosses in motion. This boss will be fought through a new quest in the update. The boss hits hard and you won’t be able to fly here, so you’ll need to put your best dodging skills to use while chipping away at its health.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song’s Player of Arms update will go live on May 28, 2015.

Bandai Namco penetrating the bad translation.

The English release of the newly announced Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment will have a new English translation, Bandai Namco confirmed.
The game is an updated port of PS Vita’s Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, which launched last year. The western release used the Asian release’s English translation of the game, which, well, was bad.
“We’ve heard your feedback!” Bandai Namco said in a Facebook post. “Sword Art Online: Lost Song will come out physically with Japanese voices and English, German, Italian, Spanish & French subtitles! And the digital version of Re: Hollow Fragment on PS4 will have its English translation redone!”

Zero Mod • 40 minutes ago Let's not turn this into a ... "Please do this then Namco! Listen to my feedback and do this discussion. " It gets incredibly off topic and is open forum material. Let's stay on topic, this article is about the new English translation. If you want to go off topic, please take it to our open forum. I'd also suggest taking the requests and such to Namco's social media pages, since they seem to be listening to feedback. Especially on Facebook. Thank you.

“I’d like you to guess based on the fact that we’re putting these [Re: Hollow Fragment and Sword Art Online: Lost Song] out on PS4. (Laughs.)
“Before, I’d said that if Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment reached over 200,000 sales, I wanted to put out a sequel. But I’ve yet to talk about the details. We’re going to make the sequel, so please wait in anticipation.”

Bandai Namco producer Yosuke Futami talks about the future of Sword Art Online videogames.

Bandai Namco producer Yosuke Futami recently spoke with Dengeki PlayStation in an interview about what we can expect in the future of the series’ video games. [Thanks, Hachima]

When asked about some of the changes we’ll see in Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment, Futami said that instead of Ad-hoc, there will be a new online mode. Additionally, previously, the character edit that only had Kirito will now be changed so that a female character can be edited.

Dengeki also asked about what we can expect from the next title in the Sword Art Online series. Futami hinted that the next title will be on PlayStation 4.

Additionally, he previously talked about if Hollow Fragment sells more than 200,000 copies, they would make a sequel, but Futami said that there are still no details on that front to share. However, he did confirm that they will make a sequel to Hollow Fragment, and asked for fans to wait just a little longer for more details.

Import your level, money, avatar data, and more.
Dengeki Online has detailed what players can import from the PS Vita version of Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment into the summer-due PlayStation 4 version, Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment.

The following elements can be imported:

  • Your level (up to 199)
  • Your money (up to 99,999,999 Col)
  • Your equipment, possessions, items, etc.
  • Avatar data
  • Heroine level and other player levels
Clear flags, downloadable content items, event items, and such cannot be imported. You’ll also have to start the game from the beginning. As previously announced, downloadable content from the PS Vita version will be unlockable in the PlayStation 4 version at a later date.
The Dengeki article also has a look at some of the changes in the PlayStation 4 version. This includes online multiplayer support (versus the PS Vita version’s ad-hoc multuplayer; pictured above), which was confirmed yesterday, as well as partial changes to the bosses. There are more changes besides the two Dengeki lists, such as the ability to edit female characters (rather than just Kirito), but they’re not mentioned in the article.

Dengeki also has a look at the PlayStation 4 version of Sword Art Online: Lost Song, highlighting the PlayStation 4 version’s nicer graphics (look, grass!), livelier Sky City Line, and more on-screen enemies.

Aincrad Adventurer Shares Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment Tips. July 28, 2015 . 1:30pm

Listen to a seasoned adventurer’s advice before heading into Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment tonight.

Show of hands, who’s ready to head back into Aincrad? Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment is out today, so here’s hoping the answer is yes. This is an action RPG that lets people fight their way through Aincrad and a Hollow Area as Kirito and tons of other major and minor characters from the series. It’s also a chance for PS4 owners to see why people with Vitas were excited about the game.

I was one of those "early" players. I don’t want to brag, but I reached Aincrad’s 100th floor. Which means I’m ready to help you with a few tips to make your first encounters with Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment a little more pleasant.

Pay attention to every tutorial.
They go by quickly. You’ll regret it if you don’t read each one, because you can miss out on combat bonuses or falter when it comes to completing missions otherwise. Sure, the digital instruction manual is there to back you up, but it’s easiest to learn by doing. Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment won’t hold your hand, so savor the teaching moments.

Use your Sword Skills.
Want to be a better sword fighter? Use your sword. It’s the only way you’ll learn more skills to use in the game. Trust me, you’ll need those extra abilities later on. Some provide bonuses like area attacks and improved accuracy, in addition to increased damage output. You especially want to use weapon skills enough to get special attacks that will do something like offer a temporary boost to attack or cause the enemy to bleed, because that will help you stand strong against mobs. The one-handed sword’s Horizontal skill is great, since it’s incredible accurate and hits multiple enemies, and the scimitar’s Legion Destroyer is a great Ultimate Skill that makes whatever foe it hits bleed.

Dodging is important.
There are three different kinds of dodges. It’s fine to rely on the regular dash triggered by pressing X. It’ll help you avoid attacks and explore areas faster. But don’t forget to learn how to do sidesteps and backsteps by pressing X and one of the directional buttons at the same time. No sense running wildly around the battlefield. Step up your game. The bonuses are worth it. Backsteps will completely lower your risk, while increasing the Burst Gauge by one and boosting attack. Sidesteps will recover the Burst Gauge, while also lowering risk and raising your chances of landing a critical hit. Get into random battles against minor mooks in the field, so these moves will become second nature when facing scarier foes.

Perfect parrying.
Running isn’t always the answer. Learn how to take an attack too. Time a parry right, and you’ll be rewarded three times over. SP will be recovered, you’ll block the attack and you’ll reflect damage back at your opponent. If you see the opponent about to attack, press triangle. I’d honestly recommend taking one hit first, so you can see what the attack pattern looks like for a particular foe. As with dodging, the best advice is to keep practicing against lesser foes.

Don’t forget Teleport Crystals.
Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment is huge. It’s easy to get caught up exploring Aincrad or the Hollow Area. There’s nothing worse than being nearly wiped out and far from home. Stock up on Teleport Crystals so you can always instantly warp back to safety. The item shop carries them. If you pair up with Asuna, she’ll always have one and “refill” each time you work together.

Take your time.
You can miss some character-related CGs if you don’t explore, look for events, and spend time with characters. (Highlight for Spoiler.)
You can miss events with Strea.
Getting to enjoy extra moments with familiar faces is one of the reasons why you’re probably playing Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment and not Ragnarok Odyssey Ace or Toukiden: Kiwami. If things aren’t happening, send Kirito off to do things by himself. Some events won’t trigger if others are around.

Try for a Drop Rate+ Sword
This one is… okay. Listen. Most of you aren’t going to get this far in Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment. Getting a sword with an increased drop rate is tedious and difficult work. But, if you’re planning on 100% mastering the game, you’re going to need one. You want to go to the Corridor of the Oppressed in the Void Area. There’s a crystal behind a door near the entrance. If you give it 50 ores of any kind, you can fight a Phi Dragon that’s in the 180-level range. (You’ll probably want to be over level 150 before facing him, to be safe.) Win, and you might get a drop rate+ sword. You won’t definitely get the weapon from the fight, though, and if you do it might not even have a rate of over 25. I only recommend undertaking this personal challenge if you have a lot of free time, really plan on doing a lot of crafting, and don’t mind resetting and rebattling the same foe repeatedly.

I think you’re all ready to do this. Odds are, you’ll come up with your own little tips and tricks as you play. Please, come back and share them once you do!

Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment Has A Vastly Improved Translation. August 3, 2015 . 1:30pm

You can immediately see how much better Sword Art Online Re: Fragment’s script is compared to Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment’s.

When Bandai Namco announced the localization and release of Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment, the company said that the PS4 release would feature a new translation. Then, the company neglected to share any trailers or screenshots with any text. It wasn’t exactly encouraging. Fortunately for us, the promise was kept!

I performed a side-by-side comparison of the first hour of both Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment and Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment. The results were absolutely shocking. I went in playing the PS4 version and taking random screenshots, hoping that there would at least be changes in a handful of them.

Instead, I found the entire script has received massive edits. Some scenes were unrecognizable. I passed up a scene where Philia described her stealth and lock-picking skills in the Vita version because it didn’t exist there. An aside had been expounded on for the PS4 release.

With that, I’m here to share some comparison shots. On the left are the screenshots from Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment. The right has ones taken from the original Vita release. There’s quite a difference, from dialogue to tutorial explanation, with a focus on making conversations flow more naturally.

See Shamrock’s Stars In The Sword Art Online: Lost Song The Mysterious Guild Trailer. October 19, 2015 . 11:00am

The newest trailer for Sword Art Online: Lost Song shows Kirito’s interactions with members of the Shamrock guild.

[YT]qK2BYsKMNO0[/YT] Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for Sword Art Online: Lost Song, an original adventure set in the Sword Art Online universe. This latest entry for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita is set in an alternate reality, but still features all of the same characters and history.

The Sword Art Online: Lost Song The Mysterious Guild trailer highlights the purpose of the game. Kirito and his friends run into a new guild called Shamrock when playing through ALfheim Online’s expansion, which introduces the Svart Alfheim series of islands in the sky. They want to be the first to beat it, but so do the members of Shamrock. We get to see quite a bit of Sumeragi, Rain, and Seven in the video, three members of Shamrock.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita on November 17. It will be available physically and digitally, with the handheld version costing $39.99 and the console version being $59.99.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song Is Less MMO, More Action RPG. October 30, 2015 . 6:00pm

Siliconera recently had the opportunity to play through the opening hours of Sword Art Online: Lost Song on PS4.
After the events of the first game, the original world of Aincrad has been left behind and players have begun flocking to a new game called ALfheim Online.

Siliconera recently had the opportunity to play through the opening hours of Sword Art Online: Lost Song on PS4. After the events of the first game, the original world of Aincrad has been left behind and players have begun flocking to a new game called ALfheim Online. While Sword Art Online had a medieval theme, this new game is fairy themed and lets players fly around its world.

Flying is one of the first things you do once you start playing, as Yui and Leafa walk Kirito through the flying and battle controls while introducing him to the world of ALfheim Online. The flying doesn’t quite feel intuitive but certainly doesn’t take long to get used to the controls either. There’s two different modes for flying and you select these from the D-Pad. Pressing up on the D-Pad will send you up into the air and you’ll start flying automatically, making it easy to get around Lost Song’s open fields. Pressing either left or right on the D-Pad will make you hover in the air. You travel slower than you do flying but you have a greater degree of control and it also enables you to fight enemies in midair. Pressing down the on the D-Pad will retract your wings and you’ll stop flying. I had a good time just flying around different areas, exploring all the small islands that are floating around.

One big improvement from Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment is that Sword Art Online: Lost Song feels much more friendly for new players. I felt Hollow Fragment overwhelmed you at the start of the game, with all the things you could do though you’ve only learnt the basics of battle. Lost Song takes things a little more slowly and sets you on a path through some early missions before giving you free rein of what you want to do. It has also dialed back the MMORPG feel slightly, especially in battle where it feels more like an action RPG than an MMORPG.

There’s no casting time or waiting to attack now, you’re free to hack and slash to your heart’s content. In battle, the only signs of the MMORPG feel is when you cast your skills. Pressing R1 will ready your weapon and pressing it again will put it away. Holding R1 will ready you to cast a skill and you use the symbol buttons to select and perform that action. If your weapon is unsheathed then you’re given physical skills. If you don’t have your weapon out, then you’re able to cast magic skills such as buffs or healing abilities. Outside of people though, there’s a number of things to see that still feel it enough of an MMORPG feel. Within towns, where there’s dozens of colourful NPCs running around chatting with each other. The menus as well, with their many options for equipment and skills feel like something you would see in an MMORPG and the characters still send you messages in-game like they did in Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment.

From my early impressions, I’d also say that if you only have a passing interesting in Sword Art Online but was interested in playing Lost Song it makes for a decent starting point. While Hollow Fragment expected the player to be very familiar with the series already, Lost Song again, takes it’s time to introduces the characters, who they are and the setting without spoiling much of what has come before. It also helps that Hollow Fragment and Lost Song are now part of a separate continuity so you don’t need to know too much about the overall series.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song will be arriving on PS4 and PS Vita in Europe on 13th November and in the US on 17th November.

A Look At Sword art Online Re: Hollow Fragment’s Female Character Create. November 18, 2015 . 4:30am

Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment released in the West earlier this summer, but Japan is getting their version tomorrow on PS4. For those of you who’ve yet to get the game, here’s a look at how you can make a female protagonist.

[YT]ceTvyDYYdis[/YT]
For the first half of the video, they show us a look at the game’s upgraded graphics in a familiar setting of Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, where we get to see Kirito team up with Asuna to take on some monsters.

At the 7:25 mark of the video, they show how there’s an added “Gender” option for the character create part. After changing around the hairstyle, face types, skin tone, and voices, they proceed to give it another look by making a plus-sized girl in its maximum height and physique setting, followed by a tiny-sized girl.

Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment will release in Japan on November 19, 2015 for PlayStation 4. The game is currently available in North America and Europe.
