The first move we see Shanks using appears to be his Haoshoku Haki to knock out enemies within his vicinity. He is then shown using various combo attacks with his sword and pistol, along with what looks like red electric-based attacks.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 will release in the West this summer for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC.

There is something in the second game, the Style Action Mode, that really makes us feel powerful when we need to overcome a tough situation. It doesn't seem to be in this game.

I still plan to get it eventually, it seems really fun.

Going Beyond The Manga With One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3′s Dressrosa Arc. April 20, 2015 . 3:00am

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 includes the Dressrosa arc and adds Shanks as a playable character. Since the Dressrosa arc is still ongoing in the One Piece manga Bandai Namco had to go beyond the source material and create an original story for the game.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3
includes the Dressrosa arc and adds Shanks as a playable character. Since the Dressrosa arc is still ongoing in the One Piece manga Bandai Namco had to go beyond the source material and create an original story for the game.

"The Dressrosa arc was not completed in the manga while we were developing the game. But, given that there are so many characters in the arc and fan interest we decided to include this in One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3. Dressrosa is the final stage in One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 and we created an game original storyline for the end," said One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 producer Koji Nakajima in an interview with Siliconera.

"Yes, we came up with an original storyline for the Dressrosa arc. We came to this decision because rather than not having the Dressrosa arc in the game, we think fans would be excited to see the storyline even if parts of it were original for the game," Hisashi Koinuma, Koei Tecmo’s general director and One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 producer added. "We waited until the very end of development so the manga could go as long as it could until we needed to work on it. After that date, the story was created by the development team."

"Although, we do not have direct communication with Oda-san, we worked closely with Toei and Shueisha. All of the planning documents were submitted to Toei and Shueisha who approved the story we created. These decisions go to Oda-san for his approval too," Nakajima explained.

Shanks joins One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 as one of the new playable characters. We asked Nakajima his thoughts about adding the red-haired pirate into the game.

"We know Shanks is a popular character for fans, but we chose not to include Shanks in earlier One Piece games because some of the moves Shanks does were not fully described in the manga," Nakajima replied. "Only Oda-san actually knows what Shanks can do so there were restrictions when we created Shanks for One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3. But, we tried our best show Shanks and to create his actions for our game."

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 comes out for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PC this August.

Akainu Was The Hardest One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 Character To Make.July 1, 2015 . 2:15am

Some of the playable characters in One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 are easy to make moves for since they have so much time on the screen, but what about the characters with only a little time in the limelight?

Siliconera caught up with Bandai Namco’s One Piece video game series producer Koji Nakajima to talk about One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3. Some of the playable characters in the game are easy to make moves for since they have so much time on the screen, but what about the characters with only a little time in the limelight?

“For a character like Luffy, who has been a central part of the show until now, it’s easy to come up with their move sets. One character that comes to mind as having been particularly difficult, simply because his abilities weren’t displayed much on the show or in the manga, is Akainu. We didn’t really know how he was going to move, or even how he was going to unleash his skills. When we designed his move set though, we knew we had to give him the same touch as Luffy. We had to make the player feel good about using him when they play the game,” Nakajima said to Siliconera.

“So for that part, because we don’t have much to work with, we go with really small details. We’ll watch the show and see where he appears, observe how he moves, and make speculations based on how we think, say, his arm would move [after throwing a punch]. After chatting about it as a development team, we put together some rudimentary movements and animations. In cases where there doesn’t seem to be enough [data] in the show, we’ll look over the manga too and re-adjust those animations or make new ones to fit our discoveries. The player gets to see the character as much as we do, so we have a responsibility to bring that character to life for them, like we do with Luffy.”

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 will be available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStaton Vita, and PC. It is slated for release on August 25 in North America, and August 28 in Europe.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 Makes You Work To Unlock Shanks.September 13, 2015 . 5:30pm

One of the most notable new additions to the cast of One Piece: Pirate
Warriors 3 is the inclusion of the pirate that gave Luffy his iconic straw
hat and inspired him to take up piracy, Red Haired Shanks.

One of the most notable new additions to the cast of One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 is the inclusion of the pirate that gave Luffy his iconic straw hat and inspired him to take up piracy, Red Haired Shanks. Despite his role in the world of One Piece, much about Shanks is left in mystery, but he is known for being one of the most powerful pirates currently sailing the seas.

Such a powerful character was never going to be easily unlocked and Shanks certainly provides a challenge. Unlike the majority of characters in Pirate Warriors 3 that are unlocked simply by playing through the story levels, Shanks (along with a handful of other characters including Ace) can only be unlocked via the Dream Log. The Dream Log is something of an equivalent to a filler episode in the anime series. The missions are simpler and shorter than the ones found in the story mode and provide more of a traditional Warriors experience in that there’s a greater focus on capturing all the territories and less specific objectives to complete.

Early on in the Dream Log, there’s a mission where you help out Coby with his marine training. This is one of a handful of missions that let you choose which side you want to fight on, in this case: Coby or the Marines. The difference between each side is fairly minimal and usually just consists of a slightly altered set of objectives. The goals for Coby’s side has you take over key territories on the map along with taking out key members of the opposing army. Each time you start a mission in the dream log, you’ll be randomly paired up with anyone from the large cast of characters available. You’ll see characters teamed up with longtime rivals as well as battling against close comrades. In this mission, Coby always comes into battle with you (if you’re playing on his side) but I was also partnered with Bellamy, one of the early villains in One Piece and had to go up against Akainu and Chopper. As you’re playing, the characters will interact with other and comment on the battle. If the characters involved know each other, they’ll sometimes mention something specific to those characters and it’s fun to see the villains compliment Luffy and the other Straw Hat Pirates.
onepiece1_thumb.jpg

Each mission in Dream Log is set on a island and it’s up to you how you want to navigate them. Heading directly down the middle of the map is the quickest path to Shanks but also the toughest, as the recommended level for each mission jumps up quickly going down that path. If you spread out to the paths heading left or right, the level in increase is more gradual, providing a more natural progression. If you’ve been marathoning the story mode missions, the required levels won’t be as much of an issue but you’ll likely still need to do some grinding to be prepared for Shanks. Luckily, there’s plenty of missions to complete in the Dream Log to help you along the way.

I found playing a few story missions followed by a couple of Dream Logs, a good way to progress through both modes provide ways to improve all your characters. Characters seem to level up quickly in story mode (though you can only play as the Straw Hat Pirates), but Dream Log lets you improve your character’s stats quicker due to the way the improvement system works. While unlocking Shanks might seem like a daunting task at first, with some perseverance, you’ll have a character ready for the challenges that lie beyond Shanks…

OP-Burning-Blood-EU-Ann.jpg

One Piece: Burning Blood is coming to North America, Latin America, and Europe in 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PS Vita, Bandai Namco announced.

The game, developed by Spike Chunsoft, will feature fast-paced gameplay and unique One Piece elements. One Piece: Burning Blood introduces an “advanced battle system” that replicates Devil Fruit abilities and Haki techniques in free-for-all battles. Activated at will, these abilities can increase the player’s attack power, nullify incoming normal attacks, and more.

“Meeting our fans on public & private events is a good way to get feedback on our games and see what the expectations are,” Bandai Namco Europe VP of marketing and digital Herve Hoerdt said in a press release. “One Piece: Burning Blood is the perfect example of us creating a game impeccably in-line with fans’ desires. The long awaited pure fighting-game based on the One Piece universe is here! To add to that, we are quite happy to release the game on multiple platforms, especially on a Microsoft console, since it’s the first time ever for a One Piece game.”

One Piece: Burning Blood was first announced for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in Japan at SCEJA Press Conference 2015 earlier this month.

Create a team of three characters and swap them out.

Bandai Namco has shared new details and screenshots of One Piece: Burning Blood, its upcoming dynamic fighting game from Spike Chunsoft.
Characters confirmed to appear so far include Monkey D. Luffy, Sabo, Ace, Bartolomeo, Ener, Crocodile, and Bartolomeo, as well as the newly announced Smoker.

One Piece: Burning Blood has several strategic features. Players can create a team of three characters and swap them out in order to gain a tactical advantage. Certain characters can use special “Logia Moves” for unique abilities. “Logia Fruits” also allow the use of “Logia Guard,” where some characters are untouchable by physical attacks for limited amount of time.

The “Haki” blow is a counter to this guard, however. “Devil Fruits” will also act as the source of unique and powerful “Special Attacks” and “Reinforced Special Attacks.”
