Syfy Orders Pilot Based on Supernatural Film 'Legion'

Syfy has given a pilot greenlight to "Dominion," a series based on the 2010 supernatural movie "Legion," a network spokesman told TheWrap.

Executive produced by the film's director, Scott Stewart, "Dominion" takes place 25 years in the future after a war between humans and angels changes the world. It focuses on an unruly young soldier who finds out he is the world's savior.

Stewart will write and direct the pilot and reunites with "Legion" producers Michael Litvak and David Lancaster, who will serve as executive producers.
Paul Bettany, Lucas Black, Tyrese Gibson, Adrianne Palicki, Kate Walsh and Dennis Quaid starred in "Legion," which grossed $40 million in North America.

The movie was bad. The story was interesting but the execution of it was just piss poor. From the sound of this sequel. I'm expecting a John Connor type from T3.

Alright movie,Should be good as a tv show

It was another great movie premise ruined by a lackluster story, directing and poor actor choices. And probably an insufficient budget. I'll probably watch the pilot and 2-3 episodes after that to see if a TV adapted series is worth watching but I do not have my hopes up.

Sounds a bit familiar for SyFy (or rather SciFi), doesn't it?

Christopher Egan To Star; Alan Dale & Tom Wisdom To Co-Star In Syfy Pilot ‘Dominion’
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

EXCLUSIVE: Christopher Egan (NBC’s Kings) has been tapped as the lead in Dominion, Syfy’s supernatural action drama pilot based on characters from the 2010 feature Legion that starred Paul Bettany. Alan Dale (Ugly Betty) and Tom Wisdom also have been cast in the project set 25 years after the events of the movie. Dominion picks up in the aftermath of a catastrophic war between an army of angels and mankind that has transformed the world. Set against a backdrop of the ultimate celestial battle as it touches down on earth, the series follows the perilous journey of Alex Lannen (Egan), a rebellious young soldier who discovers he’s the unlikely savior of humanity. Dale, repped by APA and Management 360, plays Rysen, the general who led the humans to victory against the angels during the Extermination War. Now ruler of Vega (once known as Las Vegas), one of four cities left standing after the war, he finds himself negotiating politics in the heavily militarized city, maintaining calm over its stratified society and keeping a watchful eye on his daughter, Claire. Wisdom, repped by UTA, Emptage Hallett and Affirmative Entertainment, plays Michael, the greatest of the warrior archangels who was instrumental in helping humanity defeat the angels during the Extermination War. Michael is now entrenched in Vega, using his superior supernatural abilities to defend the city’s inhabitants from enemy attacks. The role was played by Bettany in the movie. Scott Stewart, who co-wrote and directed Legion, is back to direct the pilot from a script by Vaun Wilmott. Stewart executive produces with Michel Litvak and David Lancaster of Bold Films, who produced the movie; Wilmott co-executive produces. Produced by Universal Cable Prods., the pilot is set to begin shooting later this month in Cape Town, South Africa. Egan, who starred in the ABC pilot Gothica this past season, is with WME and Anonymous.

I actually enjoyed the movie, despite how stupid it was, its a guilty pleasure of mine, but this series sounds really poor, and doesnt sound it is following the movie too much either.

Michael was back in God's good graces by the end of Legion, here it doesnt look like he is, not got very high hopes for this anyhow.

Syfy Picks Up ‘Legion’ Adaptation ‘Dominion’ To Series
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

New York, NY – December 4, 2013 – The ultimate celestial battle between good and evil will descend to Earth in 2014 as Syfy officially greenlights the scripted drama Dominion (working title) to series, it was announced today by Syfy President, Dave Howe. The series is produced by Universal Cable Productions and BOLD Films, and filmed in Cape Town, South Africa.

“Following the critical success of ‘Defiance’ and the upcoming Ron Moore thriller ‘Helix,’ ‘Dominion’ will be the next major addition to Syfy’s growing slate of high quality scripted series,” said Howe in making the announcement. ”‘Dominion’ will continue Syfy’s new strategy to commission stand-out genre series that deliver the high stakes, sci-fi/fantasy experience our audience demands and embraces.”

Based on characters from the hit theatrical film Legion (2010), Dominion is an epic supernatural drama set in the year 25 A.E. In this transformed post–apocalyptic future an army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, has waged a war of possession against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, has chosen to side with humanity against Gabriel. Rising out of the ashes of the 25 year-long battle are newly fortified cities which protect the human survivors. In Vega (formerly Las Vegas), the largest of these cities, two houses vie for control and the stage is set for political upheaval and a dangerous power shift. Meanwhile, a rebellious young soldier begins a perilous journey as the war between the human race and the fallen angels hell-bent on their domination escalates.

Dominion stars Christopher Egan (Kings), Tom Wisdom (300), Roxanne McKee (Game of Thrones), Alan Dale (Lost), Anthony Stewart Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Luke Allen-Gale (The Borgias).

Scott Stewart, who co-wrote and directed Legion, directed the pilot and is one of the project’s Executive Producers. Michel Litvak and David Lancaster of Bold Films, who produced the film Legion, are also Executive Producers. Vaun Wilmott wrote the pilot and will also serve as Executive Producer on the series.

Film Afrika serves as the local production entity in South Africa.

Looks good but it is only a poster so far.

I've been seeing the commercials for this on SyFy and had no idea it was tied to Legion, now I'll have to check it out. Though without Paul Bettany, it's going to lose something, but it will be nice to see where they go with the 'messiah' child.

be watching it, you peeps better use the bathroom before it starts, says they will be little commercial breaks :p

SyFy showing bare naked butts?

So far I'm impressed the plot, the cgi, really starting out strong.

One wonders just how much editing they are going to do when they start showing Spartacus next week.

So far, I am enjoying the show. I am fine with some of the changes they made to the mythology. And the explanation for the lower angels makes sense. The set up for the world interests me. Not a huge fan of how red the new angel's armor was, but other than that, the designs and effects look sufficient. Better than Defiance's opening battle in their series premiere.

Not going to lie though, angel mythology fascinates me. So this series was an easy sell to me.

When the prologue came on, I said to myself, "They're describing the fourth season of Supernatural."

Genuinely surprised by how good it was. I was expecting it to pretty much suck. Solid set up and the CG was pretty impressive, especially considering that I thought the effects in the movie were bleh :oldrazz:. The archangel with the red, armored wings looked pretty cool.

Also, they've got a pretty good cast but I feel like maybe they could have gotten someone better for Michael. He's not bad, but he's not that good either. He's the only angel who is on the humans' side. They should have gone for someone with a little more of a presence.

I guess I'm the odd one out. I couldn't finish watching it, it was so boring to me. Maybe I'll give it a try another time.

I thought it was pretty good-I will watch another episode.

I thought it was an ok epsiode I'll probably keep watching it. One thing though Anthony Stewart Head voice sounded so different in this show maybe that's his american accent which I'm cool with but he just sounded so weird. Maybe its the fact that I only remember the guy as Rubert Giles from Buffy.

Damn! I didn't realize that was him

haha yup. That's what I was thinking...honestly. I would be more into this if Supernatural hadn't already dealt with bad angels and one important angel choosing to side with humanity.

That is not a new concept though. I could think of a few movies with that same premise including the movie the show this based on. It's all in the execution not the concept

Yeah, I would say it is closer to the Prophecy series than Supernatural.
