Gonna guess this is a somewhat... loose adaptation because I cannot imagine a weirder fit that Waititi and Ishiguro. Good on him for broadening his horizons if he manages to capture the spirit of Ishiguro's work, though! I am hoping very hard Taika doesn't devolve into self parody the way directors with heavily distinctive styles they rarely diverge from tend to eventually.
