Just curious. If you removed the storyline and just looked at the cosmetics of the picture, which Batman film would appeal the most to you from the stand point of costumes and sets? For myself, I LOVED everything about Batman Returns. I loved the streamlined cowl on Keaton and the costumes and sets were beautifully haunting. I loved the fact Burton had the Batmobile cutting through the streets of Gotham in the snow.

I can't choose between Batman'89 and Batman Returns. The costuming and sets were perfect in the first two and it's hard to pick between the two. On one hand, I loved the art deco blend with then current styles in Batman'89. The whole style was fantastic and really seemed like the perfect Gotham City. And Anton Furst's designs were Academy Award winning, least we forget. But I'm not a particular fan of the B'89 suit, it seemed more like a test suit because it was the first one done. But the design of Jack Nicholson's Joker was superb in every way. Great ensembles to go with his flamboyant style.

Batman Returns featured what is still my favorite Batsuit on film. I loved the sleek and industrial design, and it was far more form fitting than the previous suit, it also returned to using the vintage symbol. The design of Gotham was far darker, but it was the perfect opposition to setting the film during the winter time. I also liked the large statues taken from a Germanic style, they looked good without being ridiculous like in Schumacher's movies. Like the OP said, the shots of Gotham covered in snow were visually in awe. In BR, they also kept with the 40s dress style, I especially like Max Shreck's different suits. I'd bring up the batmobile but it virtually looked the same in both films to me.

But overall, I think I'll pick Batman'89 because it was more "Gotham City" to me while BR was just an awesome design. I have a few thoughts on Schumacher and Nolan's designs and look as well but I'll save that for another post.

Batman Returns, definitely. Loved the suit and everything. Improved on anything that Batman 89 didn't do so hot in...

Definitely Batman Returns.

Batman Begins had the better costumes and B89/BR had the better sets IMO......It was hard but I voted BB in the end because of the Tumbler. (Not that I don't like Burton's Batmobile, I just prefer the Tumbler):o

Good question Webhead, it's an issue I don't recall coming up before.

It's a hard choice. I love the urban gothic of the 1989 movie. Batman Returns is pure Burton world, like The Nightmare Before Christmas and the castle of Edward Scissorhands. But they will be praised enough by everyone else.

So just watch this video I made...

I think the best suit has been the batman returns but batman begins has had the best gotham city.

Voted for Batman, but now that i think about it, Returns. I liked 89's suit better but Returns had all the other good points of 89 but better. Plus it was set at Christmas time and i love Christmas :d

I love how Batman Returns is set in Christmas. But Gotham City itself looked smaller than Gremlins' Kingston Falls when it's meant to be a huge American metropolis... I would've liked them to open it a bit up in the sequel, you know? And they could've done more with the winter setting. I still think the most atmospheric and dark Christmas movie, especially regarding the sets and the cinematography, is Gremlins. It's so incredibly atmospheric. Just watch the scene where Phoebe Cates tells of her father's dad. Cates being in it is another plus point, by the way. :D

But my pick is Batman Begins. I love how dirty and gritty Gotham City and the other locations are. I love the Batmobile being a tank and I think it's been the best Batsuit so far. Other than that, Wally Pfister's cinematography is simply outstanding and Gotham has never looked so nightmareish. Especially in the showdown, which is perfectly atmospheric, moody and "crazy."

The scene in Batman Forever when Batman jumps off the skyscraper to get in the subway. That was really comic book vibe, I enjoyed it! And of course when he gets out of the fire alive with a badass facial expression, iconic!

Other then that, I would vote for Batman 89 for the gothic aspect or Returns to see it in the beautiful snow, cause Returns is definately an artsy film

Returns, loved the scene where the batsignal comes into Bruce's den and he stands up right in the middle of it and yes, the Batmobile did look great in the snow.

Batman Begins. It not bulky as the suit Keaton & others wore. Not to mention it more flexibility.

Nice reworked trailer for B&R Kevin! I think someone should pay you to do a director's cut! Nice job. :yay:

returns although i didn't really love that armour plated six pack he got but meh...

as for everything else, catwoman looked amazing, so did penguin and gotham was fairly flawless as well. The batmobile was also very very cool.
