Crossing the billion mark certainly validated Pirates 2. I know everyone online hated that movie, but bad movies don't make a billion dollars. It obviously had a lot of things that appealed to everyone, just like Titanic, Return of the King, and The Dark Knight have.

It's the 4-th movie in history to do it...from thousands of movies only 4 have done it...and this is the first comic book movie in history to achieve it.

Plus it was on the verge of the billion for about 4 months so we were all waiting for this for a while now.

I agree that if the movie was bad no ammount of money would have made up for it but in this case it's one of the very few that actually deserves it.

I'm aware of it's place in history. I'm just not sure why people talk it like it's personally making their lives better that this movie has grossed so much.

No, not really. POTC 2 was a bad summer blockbuster WITH Johnny Depp.
Same with Titanic, mostly everyone knows Titanic wouldnt make 600 million if it wasn't for semi-horny 15 year old girls coming to see the movie 20+ times for Leonardo DiCaprio
I do admit that it has incredible appeal to audiences though.

Stop being such a fatalist :woot:

Why do people give a damn if their team wins?Does that in someway makes your live better? Why do you English people spend so much time watching, screaming, eating and enjoying 22 guys chasing a ball?:woot:

It's the same thing...i love the movie=the more success it has the happier i am for the people that have made it.

Do I care if my team wins? Sure, but it doesn't mean it makes my life any better and I don't act or talk as though it does. Nothing in this world makes me that fanatical. That's just me though. But hey, if it makes your day for this movie to make tons of money, none of which goes to any of us by the way, well then celebrate away :word:

BTW,don't assume because my location reads England that I'm English. I'm not :cwink:.. nor do I watch football.

It's just fun. Of course it doesn't make our lives better. Electing Barack Obama makes our lives better. Exercising, socializing, music make our lives better. Performing makes my life better.

The Dark Knight is just our favorite mythological character at his full potential. We celebrate that for reasons we know not. It's just fun.

I'm not going to search all the pages and posts, what's the exact total amount?

Not to kill the party, but does this movie making a Billion dollars make you guys' week or something? It's a nice achievement, but the quality of the movie isn't judged by how much moola it makes. I guess I don't understand why it's such a momentous occasion, or am I missing something? We all know it's a great movie,I enjoyed it thoroughly, I don't think it making a $itload of money validates anything.

Not really, but no one would ever imagine a Batman movie breaking the billion dollar mark. I would say that's a pretty great achievement.

The billion dollar mark doesn´t make any of us "rich" - except those who have stock in WB I guess - but it symbolizes TDK´s relevance as one of the few movies of the 21st century that has become a cultural phenomen beyond being just another box office hit, just like all its accolades, rave reviews, awards, etc.

As a Batman fan, I´m proud to love a character that has achieved an almost uncomparable level of longevity and relevance among pop culture icons. That´s it.

Yeah, well your part of a incredibly tiny % of sports fans.

Open your eyes and you'll realize how obsessed and loopy in the head most sports fans can be...and us comic nerds got/get made fun of because we love to read well comics and over time we gain alot of knowledge about the characters. As opposed to your average sports fanatic who spends who knows how much time on the internet trying to memerize numerous players stats and achievements like it ****ing matters towards their own life(which I know ALOT of people personally that do this).

Sorry but fans being happy a film based on one of their fav characters doing well at the BO is well under the level of rabid fanaticism of most sports fans.

Actually, for me the combination of record-breaking box office and all the major awards (guilds, BAFTAs, Golden Globes, Critics Choice and Oscars) nominations and wins are like the ultimate vindication for those of us who are Batman fans. TDK has finally been able to make the general population understand why exactly do we love the character and its mythology so passionately. This endorsement by both the ordinary and the elite, the audience and the filmmakers, have not only further elevated the rank of Batman in the mainstream but that of superheroes, comic books and their adaptations in general. It's a groundbreaking accomplishment, and we take great pride in it as fans that it was our favorite character who managed to pull it off. :batman:

What it says to me is that now we are a little more likely to get top-quality comic book movies like TDK made, as it (along with Iron Man ) has shown that a well-made CB film can also make a ****-load of cash.
Without intereference from the suits, I might add.

POTC2 was without a doubt one of the worst movies i have ever endured in my entire life, and i have seen a LOT of movies. POTC2 does nothing but prove box office has nothing to do with the film's quality.

I don't know about that. Barack's only been in office for a month now. He hasnt really made any changes to the economy, and hasnt done anything to fix the war situation. All he's really done so far is make a buttload of money from sales of collectible coins and plates with his name and face on them.

But, this isn't really the topic for discussion on politics.

Oh I agree with you...after rereading my post I don't think I was clear about what I meant to be honest. It's not that I think the box office results proved POTC2 was a good movie (it...sucked), but it's just that to the general movie going crowd, it has a lot of elements that caused people to love it. I hated it, you hated it, most people I talked to hated it, but someone must have loved it for it to have crossed the billion dollar mark.

When I find one of these people, I'll let you know.
