Warner Bros. will re-release "The Dark Knight" on Jan. 23 in a nationwide launch, guaranteeing that it will become the fourth film to take in more than $1 billion in worldwide box office.

"Knight" has cumed $530.3 million domestically and $465.9 million internationally, leaving it less than $4 million short of the billion-dollar milestone. Only "Titanic," "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" have topped that mark.

"Knight" also is the second-highest domestic grosser of all time, trailing only "Titanic."

The re-release will come six weeks after the DVD launch of "Knight," set for Tuesday.

Dan Fellman, president of Warner's domestic distribution, made the announcement Thursday. "We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the bigscreen as it was meant to be seen," he added.

So we've got the date set *marks calendar*

Very nice :word:

Wow.

I think even with the DVD and Blu-ray out, people will come and see it again -- especially now it's not an IMAX-exclusive re-release. How many of them will see it again in the theater, I'm not sure.

If it plays again at my local theater in Virginia, I will definitely see it again.

Considering Ledger passed on the 22nd of January, does anyone else think it's a little odd that they're releasing it a day BEFORE the on year anniversary?
Would it have been so hard to wait a day?

I don't understand how this didn't make a billion yet if it's the second movie to break $500m yet pirates and rotk could

23 comes after 22, man.

you need to figure out your dates man...
im going to see this as soon as it rereleases...just because im a fan

Okay so we know it's re-released on the 23rd...

I guess the new question is...how long will the re-release run in theatres?

Hahahaha! I meant the day AFTER! ha! Dumbest post ever! In my defence, i have been awake for a very, VERY long time! Apologies.

So will it be only an IMAX re-release or all theaters? Regardless I still plan to see it in Imax.

Nice. Will they still release it on IMAX? I might check it out then. Otherwise, I'll just stick to the DVD.

Hmm, the day after Oscar nominations are announced. I guess they're expecting major nominations then? :oldrazz: Giving an "Oscar push" when the film isn't nominated for any major awards is sort of moot.

Just depends on the turnout I suppose. Watchmen is hitting IMAX theatres March 6 so from the 23rd to March 5th would be a good guess.

I read that Japan doesn't like their superhero movies like TDK. Some international markets just didn't love it as much.

Isnt January 23rd the day Heath died?

So it is a full-release right? Not just IMAX?

January 22.

I remember since it's my birthday. :o And the day Oscar nominations were announced last year, and they'll be announced on the same day next year too.

Taking my sister and her b/f to see this movie in Jan. They almost watched the pirated version, and I said I'd pay out my pocket so they could see it in IMAX the right way to view it your first time. Don't ruin the experience.

Perfect tagline for re-release

The Dark Knight Returns...

Yes. Yes.

Sorry, but this is ******ed. Seriously. It's going to be on DVD. It had its run in theaters, it did really well, and then it's going to be on DVD, and now they want it BACK in theaters. Money hungry? Goodness.
Just a MONTH after the DVD they want people to PAY to go see it again. If it passes Titanic now, who cares? It's taken it two runs in theaters to do it. I wouldn't be surprised if they put it back a third time.

Kinda how like Star Wars has been out in theaters like 2 times...people just enjoy watching movies on the big screen...No ones forcing you to go see it again...:hoboj:

Star Wars has been around since the late 70's.

It deserved to be seen again almost 20 years later. Batman just came out in July. -_-

Which wouldn't even be equivelent to the amount of time Titanic stayed in theatres. Media changes in theatres too rapidly now to leave a movie in theatres as long as Titanic stayed in theatres in the 90's. This would be way more impressive. With that said, it's not going to pass Titanic.
