Multiple sources say Paramount wants to “Sonic-fy” the TMNT franchise. Sonic the Hedgehog is a three-movie (and counting) hit franchise for Paramount that is based on the popular Sega video game. The movies are live-action/hybrids and play very well to the all-ages, four-quadrant crowd and have become a $1 billion-plus franchise for the studio. And they happen to be produced by Moritz.
That doesn't even apply to Sonic exclusively, despite these coming from the same studio. You don't need to try and reinvent the wheel when it comes to the Ninja Turtles, which is not just tonally different from Sonic, but has had success both in animation and live-action. You don't need to do something drastically different. The blueprints exist in the 1990 film, the 2003 film, the multiple animated adaptations- don't try and turn the franchise into something that it's not and doesn't need to be.
It killed The Last Ronin though.Hope it works. Really hope this doesn't kill Mutant Mayhem.
I’ve been to two separate TMNT 90 showings in the past few years and they’re always sold out. Those NECA figures always have the highest scalpers market…Sigh. Legacy sequel to the original movies with animatronics or bust! Was really hoping Last Ronin was gonna go in that direction.
Apparently the rerelease of the original film was the most successful Fathom Events rerelease of this year. It just bothers me that not once has anyone even attempted to get close to that since 1990, and "Sonic-ify" doesn't sound like it.
Other than the original film, it was the 2000s animated series that made me actually like the Turtles. Would love a live action film that feels like that
