The Amazing Spider-Man Tell me how you think they should do the Lizard

Ock and Spidey hardly ever talked their entire fight on the train. They exchanged words on the clock tower and then Ock told him he had a train to catch at the end of the fight.

Right. but Dr.Octopus was a human villain and had emotions and a motive and dialogue.

You guys want the main villain to be a Giant Lizard that hisses its toungue, just runs around destroying ****, and just screams out like a dinosaur?

Come on now that sounds ******ed.

Have Lizard be like a Wolf Man or something, were he can still talk and communitcate and a motive, not some 6 foot tall lizard that is running around making noises and has no purpose what so ever but to just be cool eye candy.

I just proved you wrong though. That entire fight, not one thing was said. Now I agree that the entire movie should not be a Lizard that cannot talk but one major fight with Lizard being a full on beast that roars and hisses would be great. I don't think he will become the Lizard until the second act anyways so that is only two fights.

Yeah during a fight scene thats fine i mean how many fights have you seen with dialogue done well?

My point had nothing to do with fight scenes. YOU came out of nowhere and pulled that out, i am talking about when hes not fighting Spider Man.

This is what he should look like through out the movie. Not too big, kinda slender.

OK. Let's assume for giggles that the Lizard is the villain in the first movie of the Reboot. How should they do his story?

Like...

1) Should he talk? If so.. how much?
2) Should he have intelligence? or be purely primal?
3) How quickly should he transform into the Lizard? First act? Second act?
4) Should they establish the Connors family first and show the love of the father for the son? should they establish the Connors as Peter's adopted family?
5) Should the Lizard kill? implied? graphic? or a combination of both?
6) Should the Lizard have an evil master plan? Probably according to how you answer 2 above may answer this one? Or should his storyline be simply a mysterious creature is wandering the dock fronts.. killing homeless?
7) Should the Lizard go after his family? Should he go after them to try to convert them or just because something primal (left over from Dr. Connors is telling his reptile mind that they are important).. but he/it does not understand why?
8) Should the Lizard die in the end? If not, should they attempt to reconcile that Dr. Connors is a murderer from his alter-ego?
9) Should they play the angle that the Lizard is a hoax at first? And let Spidey play it that way at first, only to realize that this is NOOOO hoax/publicity stunt?
10) Should other key characters be involved in Dr. Connors/Lizard story? i.e. Brock investigating? Capt Stacy.. putting the pieces together and figuring out who the Lizard really is?

Feel free to add your own questons, or wants.

1) Yes he should imo, however he should only hiss a few words and uncompleted sentences, like "diieeeeeee human" or something like that.
2) He should definitely show some signs of intelligence imo. Like, hiding in clever places and taking advantage of the environment and situation.
3) Tough question, but somewhere in the second act I think. Not too early but not too late either.
4) Yes they shoulld imo. Don't know about the 'adopted family' thing though. That would fit better if they had Lizard in the sequel and had time to develope the relationship with Connors before he becomes Lizard. But they should be very close friends with Connors being a mentor figure.
5) Yes he definitely should. But not graphic, that's not really needed I think.
6) No he shouldn't if you ask me. He shouldn't be THAT intelligent in the Lizard form I think. Peter trying to cure him is enough for a story imo.
7) Yes. Because some leftovers of his human mind draws him to them. Then, when the family panics in fear, his savage mind would take over and he'd go all berserk and try to kill them or capture them.
8) No he should be cured and survive. I think he shouldn't really know all things he did when he was Lizard, but he should have nightmares about it. And Peter would try everything he could to make the murders a secret. Maybe some time in a sequel Connors would find out that he actually murdered people.
9) I don't know. Could be interesting.
10) Yeah Brock could investigate. But they should NOT give Brock too much spotlight and focus. He shouldn't steal time from more important characters. The Capt. Stacy thing could be cool.

If you make him PRIMAL the way you guys are saying, than it's gonna be really stupid villain, i mean how would he be an interesting villain what so ever if he just makes noises and hisss and jump around etc. Than Spider Man is fighting just a creature.

The only way to make this villain interesting for a movie, is to have him talk and be inteligent, if hes just primal than the whole movie is spider man fighting some giant lizard. THIS IS A FEATURE MOTION PICTURE NOW A EPISODE OF A CARTOON. You can't have 120 minutes or so and 50 of them involved Spider Man chasing around a giant lizard that just makes noises.

This is already a hard enough villain to make believable and work on screen as a main villain, and you guys want him to act like an animal and not talk and just run around leaping around destroying stuff and spider-man has to stop him?Thats ****ing stupid as ****.

If there gonna use Lizard, make him talk like he did as Connors but obviously he sounds a bit different being talking with a hiss.

The Lizard has always worked better in comics as more animal. The plans to conquer the Earth were stupid. The Lizard is good due to his animal nature and emotional connection to Peter and the Connor family. Use that. Don't make him too smart. That is when we get dumb take over plots. I would like to see him in rage taking over mode at least during 1 fight, and I would like him to talk...but not in grand ideas and sentences. He is more animal than man and degenerates Connor's mind. He should become animal smart

/\ ... Agreed. I want to see his ability to speak diminish as the transformation progress. Where at the end he can only hiss 1 or 2 words at best.

I want to see Dr. Connors struggle to retain his humanity as the primal beast takes over.

This would be the first form when he can still talk:

And finally this when he is completely transformed:

He could lose that coat at somepoint.

I think the coat is a huge part of Lizard visually. I want him to keep it on throughout the whole movie if you ask me. A totally "naked" Lizard would just look weird I think.

Agreed. The lab coat can become more tattered and torn, but we do not need a completely nakid Lizard. The Lab coat and pants serves as a reminder that there is still some humanity inside as well, and IMO, is more disturbing/scary than simply a giant Lizard.

Agreed. I think this makes the Lizard scarier and more of a character in his own right. Not just evil Connors.

Yep,just have it get more ripped and more dirtier as the movie goes by.Maybe even a name tag that says Dr.Connors on it.

The SSM show got it right. Under no circumstances should the lizard even attempt to engage in chit-chat Lizard shouldn't be talking at all! AND he shouldn't have some master plan. He should simply be a raging beast, striking fear into the hearts of the people of the city and tearing everything up. The story should be kept to a level of simplicity and significance. A brilliant scientist trying to better himself turns himself into a monster. It's so easy and simple a concept that the chance to create engaging and spectacular stories around such a cliche concept is wonderfullt limitless.

Couldn't agree more.

This is the picture of The Lizard that I want on screen, as well. Using Komoto Dragons as a blueprint on The Lizard's physical movements, real-life look and viciousness.

i want the lizard to be in stages. have his arm grow back. have scales appear. become reptilian but still look remotely human. then fully start contorting his body into a full reptilian monster. hes a tragic character they BETTER NOT KILL OFF. dr conners in later movies would be a great addition to the cast seeing as how we already saw him as a villain

Quick question: Should Lizard eat people?
I think it'd be pretty creepy during connor's transformation he slowly starts to get a taste for raw flesh. Or is that too dark?

Anyhow, the slow and gradual transformation of lizard makes me excited to see how they do this. Like someone said there are so many possibilities. A good refrence (obviously, besides The Fly) is District 9. I love how gradual and slow Wilkus's transformation was and his emotional reaction to his transformation. Not to mention, the make up (ala the alien eyes) were pretty effective.

I wouldn't mind this at all, but I doubt Sony would have the balls to allow it. Thus, is why I think The Lizard should be patterned after Komodo Dragons, they'll eat a human body in two minutes flat--ass, bones and all.

Loved the slow transformation in THE FLY, I forgot about DISTRICT 9's slow transformation, it was great, as well. Yet another reason why we need WETA, who handled Distrct 9's visual effects.

OK.. I'm gonna get greedy here.. but what the hey... this is our thread to throw out ideas... even wild ... ummm... greedy ones. :cwink:

I want 3 fights between Ole Lizzy and Spidey.

1) Serious.. WTF?!?!?! It's a real Lizard and not a hoax or publicity stunt. I want it brutal as Spidey is caught off guard, and barely escapes with his life. I want to see blood too... swipes by Lizard's claws... Lizard fangs trying to take Spidey's head off too.

2) 2nd fight allows for Spidey to now quip during the battle as a means to steady his own nerves from facing a villain that may not only beat him to a pulp.. but may actually eat him alive. Fight is a stand-off between the two superpowered beings.

3) final battle - Peter now realizes he is facing his Mentor, his friend, his father figure.. Dr. Connors. A brutal contest that allows Spidey to use his intelligence to gain an upper hand against Dr. Connors, and allows him to defeat him without having to seriously injure or possibly even kill Dr. Connors. Of course Connor's family should be involved in some battle (perhaps as a turning point that saves Spidey's neck even... just not sure if that should be the final battle or an earlier one.)

But ALL fights should be.... B R U T A L!!!! to the nth degree. We should feel that Spider-Man is outmatched by the Lizard.. Make us BELIEVE!!!!!

If only Sony cared about an engaging storyline and serious visual plots, then maybe we could see a man eater Lizard and the brutal fight you mentioned..

1) Only in the beginning. He should slowly become more of a beast throughout the movie, until the final battle where he's a full force of nature.
2) See above.
3) He should be transformed late in the first act.
4) Yes & yes. Lizard is one of the few villains that I want to be sympathetic. I'd be pissed if we went through a whole serious of sympathetic villains & the one that SHOULD be isn't.
5) No. He should live as should most of the villains in the series, minus Green Goblin.
6) Lizard should be a beast seen by New York as their own Bigfoot. While, Spidey desperately tries to find a cure for Connors.
7) Yes. It would make for an emotional & great scene. I think it'd be cool, if the Lizard spot his son, looks at him for a moment & rampages on.
8) Like I said no. Since I'd want Lizard to be a beast, Connors wouldn't be in control of any murders he did.
9) I think it should be seen as a hoax first. It'd make for a funny Daily Bugle scene or two.
10) I'd DEFINITELY be happy to see other characters being involved, especially the two you mentioned. I'd also like to see Osborn be interested in Lizard, maybe similar to the government's relationship with Hulk where they want him as a weapon.

The way I see it they really need to have another villain alongside the Lizard.

I think the Lizard is too sympathetic a villain to carry a movie all by himself, especially for the 1st one.

We need to have a mixture of a good character who just got on the wrong end of a bad accident. Then contrast him with an all out thug who has no real feelings and doesn't care for anything other than stealing money.

You could have a real badass villian like Shocker or Electo.

In terms of how the character needs to be portrayed I would say scary, reeeaaalll scary. There's gonna be a hell of alot of CGI.

I will answer the original questions.

1. Yes he should talk but have extremely limited speech. I guess he would mostly growl but ooccasionly say words or short sentences when really needed. I think most people agree.

2. Yeah he should have intelligence. Of course he is not in his right mind but there are still fragments of Doc Connors in there.

3. He needs to transform in the 2nd act. What pisses me off that they're doing the Lizard now is they literally had the perfect opputunity for the Lizard in Spider-Man 4 but Sony had to get in the way.
We got to know Doc Conners for 2 whole movies which would be perfect to feel more sympathy for him.

4. I don't think they need to go into huge detail with Connors family. Just touch on them and imply how much he loves them.

5. I think he should kill as well as some implied. The Lizard never struck me as a deliberatly brutal character. He acts more on animal instinct and is kinda like the Hulk.

6. I don't think he needs a master plan. He wont be intelligent enough for that. Leave that to Doc Ock.

7. Yeah he should try and find his family but as I said in 4, i don't think they need to focus on his family a huge amount. Since it will the 1st chapter of the reboot.

8. No the Lizard should not die. Connors can carry on in the series and they can imply and talk about his transformation in the sequels.

9. No. But JJ needs to be demanding photos!!

10. Not that many others. Maybe Gwen Stacy can help out since she will probably know Connors as well.
