Glad he didn't forget about the Terminator Day. Sarah looks great. And Miller, as usual, doesn't allow to post his tweets on PG13 forums...

At least we got an update. Ooh boy, I am ready.

I've yet to see anything about this film to get me really excited about it and make me believe it's the "true" Terminator sequel. We've been here before.

Considering there's barely any talk about the film online, not many people are downright excited for this one, which is understandable. And what do we have at the moment? 1 crappy "fem power" picture on the bridge and 5 more the most generic photos from month ago. Plus verbal description of the footage, which sounds encouraging, but it's still not a trailer that everyone can see with their own eyes.

Let this dead horse of a franchise just die already! the last one in my view was T2 as the story ended there and Judgement Day was defeated even Skynet.

They should cancel TDF. Let this franchise die already. It's not written and directed by Cameron.

Seriously, guys. What's the point of clamoring for that? Especially when a new film is 5 months away.

Terminator 1 and 2 are my favourite movies of all time and the sequels post T2 are terrible but there's no reward in being pessimistic about a new film coming out. I don't have high expectations but if it's good I'm lucky and get a good terminator sequel.

Only a special few series have that after 35 years later.

And even then, fans complain.

Speaking of which, what are your thoughts on this whole "30-40 years later sequel" trend that's going on right now? It seems to be the way a lot of franchises are going since people are tired of reboots. So far we have:

Star Wars: Okay (I like TFA and TLJ but I wouldn't call them great)
Halloween: Good (Even though they did kinda do the same thing with H2O)
The Karate Kid: Great (bit of a different animal in that Cobra Kai is a TV series but it's really good)
Jurassic Park: Meh
Rocky: Great
Blade Runner: Excellent
Mad Max: Excellent
Terminator: TBD
Bill & Ted: TBD
Shaft: TBD
Rambo: TBD

It's a loophole to make something a technical reboot.

Yeah, it pretty much is. But it is away to rope in the original fans too because they like seeing the old cast members. It's clever if it's executed well, and it does give them a chance to create new characters rather than just casting new actors to play old ones.

They have a habit of either killing them off or sidelining them though.

Star Wars: bleh, but Daisy Ridley is qt
Halloween: eh
The Karate Kid: didn't watch
Jurassic Park: eeeeww
Rocky: eh
Blade Runner: good
Mad Max: wow, excellent
Terminator: TBD
Bill & Ted: TBD
Shaft: TBD
Rambo: ok

I pray Miller pulled off something close to Fury Road. No, it's impossible. BR49 then. Seeing how they dragged in old stars.

I actually love the years later sequel/reboot. I much prefer it over a Ghostbusters 2016 or RoboCop 2014. All the recent ones have been pretty good. There’s a much bigger emotional connection to it.

I think the first series that started to do the years later sequel was maybe Star Trek with the movies.

It's a much better scheme than the reboot/remake fad if you ask me. I'm always curious to see what a creative will do when they return to a series and try to build on it. Worst case is a sequel I don't have to see again, but in the case of Blade Runner, Days of Future Past etc. I got something good that really added to what I loved before. A bad reboot is ignorable too, but even a good one lives in a sort of limbo that conflicts with what preceded it. It becomes a matter of respect to a degree. IP is popular because things worked in the past. Fans generally aren't in a hurry to see that continuity tossed aside for a quick buck. Ghostbusters is a good example for this as we're about to see both approaches.come to fruition. 2016 sucks regardless, but would have had an easier time if it was in continuity with the original.

I wonder which one is the bigger risk. If a reboot fails or has a so-so reception, then you can try to reboot it again, or do the distant sequel approach (like we're seeing with Ghostbusters and Robocop). But if the distant sequel approach fails, then... I guess reboot entirely? I'm not sure. Or maybe just let it die (*cough* Independence Day *cough*).

The ending to Independence Day Resurgence has a **** ton of possibilites regarding fighting alongside other alien races, but it did so bad.....
