Action-Adventure Terminator: Dark Fate

It's surprising because Tim Miller made one of the better and more refreshing superhero movies in recent memory. I mean Deadpool wasn't exactly the anti-superhero movie, but it worked very well because Deadpool was able to do a lot of things most Marvel films could not. It gave the film an edge.
Deadpool was refreshing tone-wise and had a great emotional core with it's romance. But in every other respect it was very much a well-made present day superhero movie. No more no less. Action outside Colossus vs. Angel Dust wasn't anything interesting. I'm saying this as a huge fan of the movie, it's probably my favorite CBM of the last 5 years.

Terminator should set the trends, not following the hottest thing atm. I'm really shocked they just copy-pasted nearly everything that makes up a modern CBM. Uninspired camera work, flashy choreography, green screen abuse... It looked so pedestrian.

Well, James Cameron is not directing it.

Of course. Alita taught me some stuff too. If Cameron isn't directing it, it matters little how much hands on he is. But I certainly expected more from Miller. Not discarding the film yet, but that teaser killed my hype. There's some slim chance it's the worst trailer in existence and the actual film somehow will be really solid or even great, but I'm probably deluding myself.

They already planned a trilogy, of course... Expect unfinished plot threads.

Has anyone ever asked Cameron if he stands by his praise of Genisys?

Don't think so. Closest we've got was in that THR video he did with Tim Miller.

I believe he referred to all movies after the first two as ''a bad dream... or an alternative universe.'' or something like that.

There's also this:

I’ll be back: James Cameron wants more Terminator — with Arnie

JIM CAMERON: “I think it’s fairly widely known that I don’t have a lot of respect for the (Terminator) films that were made later (after T2). I was supportive at the time in each case for Arnold’s sake because he is a close friend. He has been a mate of mine since 33 years ago so I was always supportive and never too negative. But they didn’t work for me for various reasons.”

Almost like declaring you know everything about a director after their first film is a mistake? I remember the panic that happened after Miller left Deadpool 2. Tim Miller appears to be a competent director, but nothing I've seen so far makes him special.

Tim Miller from the Hollywood Reporter interview

We sat in a room for months really and mapped it out across the whiteboard how this would be a true epic told in three discrete parts each one of which has its own satisfying and complete ending, but then rolls into you know a continuation of that story.

I think he likes being generous to filmmakers and then changes his mind.

He’s said he liked Terminator 3 and Alien vs Predator at one point, then bashed them later down the line.

On the other hand, Cameron did state that he liked Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines in that same interview, describing it as, “Great.”

"There was a small part of me that hoped it wasn't good," Cameron added, "but another part of me hoped it [would succeed]. And it did. And I'm so glad it did. Jonathon [Mostow, director] has made a great movie. Arnold's in great form. I really like what he's done with it."

JAMES CAMERON: Milking it. So, I stopped work. Then I saw ALIEN VS PREDATOR and it was actually pretty good. (laughs) I think of the 5 ALIEN films, I'd rate it 3rd.
QUINT: Ummm...
JAMES CAMERON: I actually liked it. I actually liked it a lot.

Are we too hard on Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines?

Holy Crap! Quint interviews James Cameron!!!

I think only with Salvation he didn’t like outright. I think McG claimed he showed it to Cameron who praised the film, then Cameron was like, no I didn’t.

Hard to believe anything after the teaser. And after Alita. When they start talking sequels prior to the release without having even a single cinematic victory... Bad sign.

McG still trying to get Jim's attention. Now he's working on that True Lies show lol.

McG is a lying sack of ****. I know promotional interviews can't be trusted, but there's a difference between positive spin and outright lies, and he told many while promoting Salvation. I'm glad to have never given than man any money, and to this day still haven't seen TS beginning to end. I know I'm not missing much. A character actually says: "if you've got a problem with the machines..." in it for gods sake.

James Cameron teases John Connor's mystery role in R-rated Terminator: Dark Fate

Speaking with Flicks and the City in a video interview that is no longer available on Vimeo, producer James Cameron (the progenitor of the entire franchise) basically confirmed that John, will, in fact, have some role to play in the sixth Terminator movie.

“I think the best way to think about Terminator: Dark Fate is to think about it as a direct sequel to Terminator 2, the third film in a series if you will," he said. "We’ll be continuing John’s story, with Sarah’s story, and the T-800 returns — a different T-800 with a very different role to play than what we’ve seen before."

Cameron also confirmed the sci-fi feature will be R-rated like the first two movies in the series. In addition, the plot of Dark Fate unfolds in a period of less than two days.

"I think, tonally, what makes this a direct sequel to T1 and T2 is as much about the tone as it is about the narrative: It’s R rated, it’s grim, it’s gritty, it’s fast, it’s intense, it’s very linear," he added. "The whole story takes place in 36 hours. It’s not this kind of grandiose, complex story. It’s just very focused on the characters, it’s very now, it’s very present and it’s just a fast white-knuckle ride."

It's part of making a big budget blockbuster. Investors are interested in franchises.

In regards to Cameron's comments on John, I hope that there is an interesting or surprising role for John that we're unaware of, and afraid that he is in fact dead as many speculate. The latter seems more likely.

Can you imagine if we think he's dead for the whole movie and then right at the end Edward Furlong makes a cameo.

So there is a supposed leak of details from the film out there from someone claiming to have seen the film at a test screen.

John has better not be dead. They can avoid showing him in any significant way if they want. But killing him off pretty much undoes the entire series. Even if he doesn’t make an appearance, if you kill him off then the machines win. That was the whole point of the story.

Look, John is stuck in the future and wasn't able to get back yet.

Read the spoilers half a day ago and im still processing it...
My fear for john has come true.. There was no other way to explain the absence really.

He is likely dead given future changed and new Terminator is now chasing different subject from Sarah Connor and John. And T-800 is alive living in cabins growing old.
