Action-Adventure Terminator: Dark Fate

I really hope it's never. They wasted all their chances and no matter how much they say this will be the one to get it right it never happens. At this point people have no one to blame but themselves if they're let down by another bad Terminator movie. It's comical at this point the amount of times they've failed so why bother? Leave it be.

There could have been a worthy sequel to T2. And I do believe it could have been Salvation. But look how that turned out.

God, it still makes me sad how let down I was by that movie.
The Terminator franchise isn't about the Future War. It is about saving the future.

The Terminator franchise isn't about the Future War. It is about saving the future.

This is the mindset that’s made this franchise so bad. T1 and T2 perfected the save the future thing. Either end the franchise there like Cameron intended, or evolve the story.

John Connor's father was younger than him. Also, Kyle Reese died before he was born. After fathering the son he was younger than.

Also, Cyderdyne only got the technological boost to develop Skynet in the first place with the help of technology from a Terminator created by Skynet.

the ironic part to me is always that they (Cyderdyne/skyenet/Legion) are the ones creating these "future leader" by sending back terminator to attack them/or their families... to stop John Connor/Dani/ whoever all they have to do is stop themselves from ever sending their own terminator after Sarah... they only becomes the leads, because of the knowledge she had of the future, and the training she put's them through

^which honestly could almost be a movie in it's self

Legion (or any other alternate timeline version) realizing that there is a time paradox that left Sarah Connors with knowledge of the future, as well as other terminators from different futures still out there, tries to stop them from every altering the timeline in the first place...
creates a way of not only traveling through time but to alternate time lines

and we get an all out war of Legion terminators vs Cyderdyne terminators

That actually sounds like a really good idea for a sequel.

I did enjoy that aspect of Dark Fate with one cyborg created by Skynet fighting one created by the new AI and wouldn't mind seeing it explored more.

If they ever EVER attempt another Terminator sequel, I'd rather see a straight HORROR film much like the first one. Small budget, creepy looking Terminator, slasher vibe. Stop with the future war nonsense.

SCC hinted at a schism among the robots. I don't doubt they were going to go with why the restrictions on the T-800 AI existed. Hell, given their acknowledgement of T3, I would not be surprised if they had plans on bringing in a TX.

And there are fun stories you can pull off with time travel.

I like post-apocalyptic stories but something about a 'future war' film in the terminator franchise always seemed a bit off to me. I guess to me, a big part of what made T1 and T2 great was they were set in a time when weapons felt more basic (or harder to obtain) and the machines felt harder to kill. The further into the future you set it, the more means you have of killing them off. Even Genisys and Dark Fate suffered from this despite being set basically in our time.

But I guess if you WERE to make a future film you could have the story centered around the sending back of Kyle Reese and maybe even the sending back of Arnold in T2 to kinda close the loop but even if you do that, for me it would be a one and done type of thing. And they definitely want to keep milking it no matter how many times they fail.

mind blown.... imagine that exact scenario... a terminator film where the resistance have broken in and are able to over ride the machines and take back control.... they have plan A but someone else shares plan Z - which is yours... stop the very first terminator from going back in time - that then changes everything... Kyle doesn't go back, bang Sarah.. no John Connor, no t-800 arm left for scientists to work and reverse engineer.. it stops everything...

I mean, that's kind alike the start to genisys..but...

^true
John, Kyle, rest of resistance, getting ready to go try to get to the time machine, all of a sudden more terminators show up and start taking out all the t-800's...

their just like "WTF, what do we do, now?" so they just seat back and watch the show
as John slowly blinks out of existence, he grabs Kyle saying "Mr. Reese, I don't feel so good"

Summer really should have been given her own Terminator film. She is so good in this show and really captures the Terminator persona.

Henry Cavil would be a great Terminator if they ever rebooted... you just have to watch the scene of his resurection in JL. Heck, we all know he can pull off a mean stare.

But they've already done that with the first film and the stalker villain Terminator element was kept through most of the sequels. At this point, they've pretty much tried everything and had disappointing results. The franchise's glory days are long gone. Their best bet for continuing it is a show on a streaming platform like HBO Max but I really don't think the studios are going to take a gamble on another film.

I finished binging the Sarah Connor Chronicles just yesterday, and I thought the show provided a good blueprint for how the franchise should’ve continued after T2. I was actually pretty shocked when I found out that the showunner for that show(Josh Friedman) was actually one of the ones credited for the story of this movie.

This series to me is the best sequel to T2 that we will ever get and this is going to come across as a bit of a hot take but for me: Lena Headley Sarah Connor>Linda Hamilton Sarah Connor. Lena is so good in this role, and steals the show for anytime she’s on screen and I wish she was cast as Catwoman at some point earlier in her career because she would’ve crushed it.

This show is the best Terminator related content since T2, imo, and if anyone was disappointed with this movie and you haven’t seen this show, I highly recommend you give this a watch. Its really good, imo.

I watched the first season of SCC and it was pretty decent. Quite an achievement for TV at that time, and certainly better written than most of the later films. The episode count of season 2 (and knowing the show wouldn't have an end) kind of put me off. I think 'Terminator' would work better in a modern, shorter season format.

I have a question, does James Cameron own the Terminator film rights now, or is he allowing Skydance to keep them?

I liked the show a lot. But, the only reason that it got a second season was because their was a writer's strike and they needed original content. I HATED the last episode. Among other things, Sarah got pushed aside. BAD IDEA!

I really didn't think it was that great. I refer to as Terminator: John has to go to school.

Why are they hanging out in suburban areas and not just continuing their training? Sarah was made out to be a bit of a dip **** and it just started to feel like every cheap TV series where it ends in a warehouse.

I'll give them some points for doing the future war scenes justice and sticking to the original look with their budget but as a whole the show was pretty rubbish. Imo of course

I see Davis has come out and said the sequels to Dark Fate would have explored different time lines. That could have been really interesting and it's a shame we won't get to see it.

Would have loved to see Skynet Vs Legion.

Maybe we see something similar in a TV show some day.

I mean...Genisys and Dark Fate both explored different timelines where Judgement Day didn't happen when it was originally supposed to.

Sarah Connor Chronicles. Not sure what else you can really do. They made John Connor into a villain. You killed him off. You brought back Sarah and Arnold.

It's dead, jim.

I've said this before, but if they want to continue telling stories in this world they need to move things forward. Show me what the future looks like down the line after humanity has won. Our relationship with tech has changed since the 80s. Play with that. Our view of good vs. evil has also changed. Play with that too.

I think there's more wiggle room in a Terminator-adjacent setting that gets into the legacy of it all. Kinda like HBO's Watchmen.
