Action-Adventure Terminator: Dark Fate

I actually got the 4K last week and still found it very enjoyable. I get people's complaints about the opening but it didn't bother me.

I just consider all of the sequels since T2 all seperate timeline's.

T3 and Dark Fate vie for 3rd best in the franchise for me.

Then it's a bit of a drop to Genysis. Said it before but the first hour of Genysis is great, but then they time travel to 2017 and the rest of the movie just goes to ****. But at least it did okay overseas.

I agree with a few on here Salvation is the worst by some way for me. It had an amazing cast and the right idea, but then they gave it to McG, who at the time seemed more concerned about arguing with Michael Bay on social media rather than getting something as simple as the T-600's wrong (the machines apparently made the first infiltration unit 9 feet tall, according to McG at least, no wonder they lost).

Salvation is a truly stunning level of stupid and awful. I keep getting flashbacks.

Blaire and Marcus are walking in the rain and stop to seek shelter. Blaire asks Marcus to look for something that will burn and he proceeds to look. This whole time, there are a number of small fires surrounding them, still lit in the pouring rain. Neither of them acknowledge this at any point. Marcus looks inside a nearby car, which neither of them think to use for shelter. Not that it matters. Despite seeking heat and shelter, Blaire decides to take her clothes off in the rain instead.

I had to edit that post to add a little more stupid. I think some of it may be "extended cut" only.

McG is a big fan of the post-apocalyptic random fires. They pop up everywhere. It would be a hell of a drinking game.

CGI - I preferred the realistic look of the model..

I liked the REV 9 design and gimmick. I think it makes much better use of the endo/liquid metal hybrid concept than the TX did. Being able to be two independent threats at once is a clear and direct increase in threat. It is probably my favourite post-T2 Terminator overall.

(makes a lot less sense when you consider it is not a Skynet design though)

imagine thinking that when watching T2.... that the sequels won't even be worth it in the bargain bin!

I say - and is ay this with a heavy heart... they need to go low budget... production company like Blumhouse... give them the rights and see what they come up with.

Just give us a good story, that scares us and makes us think about reality...

Collector mentality. I will eventually end up getting it. Probably won't watch it though. Much like my copies of everything post T2

How would we feel if they went old school and had the endoskeleton be stop motion/animatronics, obviously these days it can be seamless. They could also create something like a real life robot, to use,, that could be interesting.

Honestly, I think a full on retelling.. is what's needed. I would say reboot, but that term has been used to death.

The budget should have been cut after 3. That was the last gasp of the franchise as a blockbuster, and about as far as throwing money at something could go. Once Arnold was out and the series was no longer a star vehicle, the budget should have adjusted accordingly. More 'District 9' than 'Transformers'. The spectacle of the first two wasn't about extravagant effects very often at all, and would be pretty modest films by today's standard. I'd much prefer a mean little car chase over jets colliding in mid-air.

But the problem is that the series needs the budget alone for the Terminators.
You have to use those elaborate CGI effects since the t-1000 pushed the needle to a certain point.

But i do think a bit lower than what they got in the last few movies, is possible.
Not some huge set pieces or so, go lower with the action...make it more "grounded" and you can easily use a smaller budget.
Maybe if they find a good story that explains it well, you could go with a t-800 or so again as the "bad" terminator.

We watch them because we care about those characters, and have these “fun” performances by Arnold and Robert Patrick. The first film is basically a horror chase movie mixed with romance. The second is an action chase movie mixed with father/son bonding.

I want them to go stop motion, puppet.. with a splash of cgi... it's a terminator.. a killing machine... I don'r care what it does, so long as it does its job... to kill... that's the suspense right there... and they are iconic..

There is life, still in this franchise... we forget that culturally, around the world, people enjoy these movies... other markets lap it up...

Imagine if something comes back in time and hunts you down and you have no idea why - that's the angle they should take - present day and you are on the run, no idea what it is... where it's from or why.

I mean, they were able to do decent Terminator effects in SCC on a TV budget. I think the big issue is the action set pieces.
