Terminator: Genisys - Part 4

The weirdest thing about all of this is that the only franchise Arnold has tried to keep going is Terminator, and it makes the least amount of sense. A movie about an aging Harry Tasker (True Lies)? That could be really good! A movie where the government seeks out an old Dutch to help fight a new band of Predators? That could work too. A King Conan movie? Sign me up.

But a robot who gets older and raises Sarah Connor as a daughter? Seriously, WTF?

Probably because the Terminator is considered his signature role, the role originated his two big iconic catchphrases "I'll be Back" (which would then pop up in other films he did in the year "Hasta La Vista Baby!" People hear those lines or see the sunglasses, the leather jacket, and the bike and people think of him. Without the Terminator the 1982 Conan film may have been the high point of his film career and that may have been that for him.

So from a business stand point going back to the most iconic role seems like an obvious and easy way to get a guaranteed hit, depending on how much people still want to see him in the role.

Everyone was really excited before Terminator Salvation as well. Just hard for me to believe. But who knows. Rise of the Planet of the Apes surprised people. Even with it's misleading title.

Well Terminator Salvation was a different movie, and doesn't matter now since its not related at all. I think genisys has a MUCH better chance at actually being good. Don't understand how anyone thought McG could make a film worth watching.

I think they are at least trying with Genisys. Im loving the "risks" they are taking.

Not necessarily because salvation had kick ass trailers and hype through the roof that it would be a new trilogy. Its happening again with this Movie only no kick ass trailers and already ticking fans off.

I don't know why Salvation is viewed as some unwatchable movie now. I mean, even if you thought it was bad when it came out, it's not downright terrible.

The plot and Marcus don't make much sense but there are definitely parts of that movie that are fun to watch.

The overall ratings on the Terminator Files forum was a 7, but you wouldn't know that now. I find T3 far more offensive.

The plot and Marcus don't make much sense but there are definitely parts of that movie that are fun to watch.

The overall ratings on the Terminator Files forum was a 7, but you wouldn't know that now. I find T3 far more offensive.

I actually didn't mind Salvation. I don't think it really 'feels' like a Terminator film (the Terminator films always seemed like a hunter/prey film to me, which is what made the Terminator itself so chilling - Salvation is more of a convoluted story about the future war) - but as a standalone movie, yeah it has entertaining bits.

T3 stank to high heaven though. Especially when they tried to add comedy, like Arnie putting on the ridiculous sunglasses. Hit the wrong note entirely and too much was copied from T2.

Which is why i think 1 and 2 should have been it. 1 setup the war perfectly and sarah herself and the 2nd gave such a satisfying conclusion to all storylines and characters. Judgment day is prevented/ sarah and john are reunited and can
Begin living somewhat normal lives and be happy while saving the world one last time.

I think the problem with Salvation is not so much that it's awful, it's just that it's mediocre. There was so much potential there for a great film. Three of the leads (Christian Bale, Bryce Dallas Howard and Anton Yelchin) are great actors. The possibility of seeing an all-out Skynet/human war was so intriguing. And the trailers sold it to be an epic film.

But what we go was just so... flat. Two hours following an a**hole around (Marcus) that I had no reason to care about and didn't. John Connor reduced to nothing more than a guy sitting in a basement listening to tapes of his mother and stating the really really really obvious ("If Kyle dies, I won't exist!"). Kate standing around and rubbing her belly so that we don't forget that the pregnant woman is pregnant. Shoehorning in crap from the other movies just to throw a bone to the "It ain't Terminator if it doesn't have ___" crowd (Bale saying "I'll be back" and getting beaten up by a naked Arnold). The only really good thing about the movie was Kyle Reese, and we didn't even meet him until halfway into it.

It was watchable, but it just could have been so much better. But that would require good writing and a director who is capable of making ONE good movie in his lifetime (i.e. not HackG).

If I had to watch T3 or Salvation, I would easily choose Salvation, but only because T3 is absolutely abysmal. It looked like a TV movie.

Sorry guys T3, while not very good, is still so much better than Salvation. The ending to T3 is better than the entirety of Salvation. Salvation is boring as hell.

To each his own. To be honest, I wish neither one of them ever happened.


They'll probably both end up being better than Tirmen8or Genysis though.

I think the trailers so far have been good, the CGI n this latest one has improved a lot. It's just some rumours and spoilers that are putting me off. But, as HUGE Terminator fan since childhood I reallyhope this is good.

New trailer looks as bad as the other one. So now we've got Connor rehashing Kyle's lines from the first movie.

What is this franchise's obsession with having new characters say familiar lines that were originally uttered by other characters? What's next? Reese saying "Hasta la vista, baby" or Arnold saying "Have YOU seen this boy?"
