Terminator: Genisys - Part 5

I think it's human nature to a certain degree. To judge is bad, but we knowingly do it all the time. With people, countries, cultures, etc. Sometimes it's based on past experiences, bad first impression, or just being a *****e. It's just a fineline category.

I saw the trailer right before Avengers 2, and wow, the cinematography does look cheap. On a Macbook I thought it looked fine but on the big screen, everything looked flat and cheap. It made me backtrack on my thoughts of Ant-Man's cinematography (which actually looked fine on the Big Screen.)
Alan Taylor strikes again.

I was just listening to NFL Radio on Sirius, and there was a commercial for the Entertainment Weekly station. It went something like this: "Tune in for all the latest news on the summer's biggest movies! Superhero movies like The Avengers: Age of Ultron! Sci-fi sequels like Jurassic World! And the most EPIC movies of the year like Terminator Genysis!"

Seriously. Just f***ing kill me now.

When's the Genisys merch out?! Can't wait!

I feel like all I've done is complain about this movie, but it's hard not to when they keep putting out things which are so uninspiring. I love the Terminator universe that Cameron created, but when you get posters like this which are so generic, it's very disappointing. There are so many facets and unique elements within the Terminator universe that I'm sure if they had someone creative enough, they could come up with some very interesting marketing ideas.

But seeing the trailers I mean Genisys does look promising I mean it gives us like a Back to the Future Part 2 vibe but Terminator style and at the same time making John Connor a Terminator, Skynet trying to end the war with the very man who could lead humanity to victory I think is actually inspired

is Matt Smith the real suprise villain in the third act?

In promo materials Matt Smith is dressed as a Resistance Soldier:

Here he is, in the first trailer:

My guess...

He's the T-5000 (or human form of Skynet), that attacks John in the future and infects him. He's supposed to be disguised as one of John's men and attacks/infects him (with nanobots), right as John is about to send Kyle back to 1984.

Purely speculation on my part but it seems to fit, with what we know.

You're on a wind up right? :funny:

You know what, I hope this movie does well enough to warrant another sequel, so we can see Kyle, Sarah and Miles Dyson all become Terminators in Terminator: Ah, F*** It in 2018.

T-5000?

really?

I hate to keep bashing this movie but i wish they would stop with the marketing, they are making it worse. As much as I am not in on this film I still will go see it.

Im wondering if the mission in this film is more fixing John than avoiding judgment day so I wonder how they will go about this as it seems his body has been completely replaced by the nano bots. Is he able to switch off the Skynet part or will they have to time travel to erase the events that lead to John being body snatched.

We see Pops and the T5000 fighting in what looks just like the TDE from the future. I wonder if they set something up perhaps in the room so that John is aware of what will happen in the future. Argh i dont know!

Has anyone else seen this trailer?

It looks like a Terminator future war film in many ways. sigh

I want to try put all the trailers together into chronological order. Does anyone know a good source for all the trailers and tv spots?

This movie honestly looks hilarious the more I watch the trailers.

This is a bit difficult to explain but...this is going to be one of those films where you invite a bunch of friends over, and the junk food that you eat just tastes better because the movie is so ridiculous.

Yeah.

I find it fascinating that in 2015, we have basically decided if we like a movie or not before it's even out. T5 isn't even out, there has been no reviews so far, yet most people have already decided it's terrible, and the rest are desperately clinging onto the small glimpse of hope there is.

Either way, this movie has such an uphill battle right from the start, and I feel like T5 can't win no matter what. It would probably need to be on par with Terminator 2 in order to get the haters to admit that "ok, it's not THAT bad". Even if it's just good, that won't sway people over. I don't know, it just feels like a shame. Soon there's almost no point in actually seeing the movies anymore, because you already know from trailers/posters/casting/whatever if it's gonna be good or bad.
If you follow films closely enough, you can often times tell, based on the trailers/clips released, if something is your "cup of tea." They've released a lot, and while I hope that these scenes work in context of the entire narrative, this film does not look very good. When viewing some scenes out of context and understanding that this is supposed to be some sort of new Terminator timeline, this film still, theoretically, does not make sense.

Here are some questions regarding the film:

  • Like...why is T-1000 Asian? Are we supposed to suspend disbelief that, all of a sudden, this new timeline results in Skynet making an Asian T-1000? If this isn't acknowledged in the film, then it will be jarring to audiences familiar with the original pictures. However, if they do acknowledge this situation, it does not seem like it is very important in advancing the lead characters' story lines. In both cases, there's a conflict - do we acknowledge this minor inconsistency and sacrifice the narrative's flow? Or do we not acknowledge this detail and Terminator fans are left confused?
  • Now, don't get me wrong - I don't care much for the Asian T-100, but this conflict personifies a greater problem with the picture. As we've seen in the trailers and TV spots, there are quite a few similar inconsistencies between the original pictures and this film. Now, is this film just going to waste time explaining all of these inconsistencies? I doubt it. Why do that when we should be focusing on character arcs? It doesn't sound very compelling.
  • Finally, another major problem with the film - the themes communicated in the trailers. "The Future has Changed" has more or less, in different word variations, been the basis of every post-T2 Terminator film. Thematically, like the latest TASM series :o, it seems like a regurgitation of old concepts and themes - not a natural evolution of them.
Based on what I have seen, these are some stand-out problems I suspect to be in the picture. Could they fix these problems? Potentially. Do I think the crew involved, such as Alan Taylor, can tackle this difficult task? Absolutely not.

I'll wait and see, but I don't have high hopes for this.

I don't especially care about T-1000 being Asian. I mean, he's a shapeshifter anyway, so why is there a rule about what he looks like?

I don't care that much about minor differences between them, because in reality, the movies were made more than 20 years apart. With Back to the Future, those movies were created within a fairly small timeframe and you could have those scenes re-created almost perfectly. But with something like Terminator, actors have aged and other things makes it hard to recreate it. Sure, they could probably have CGI'd a younger Robert Patrick face onto the T1000, but it's still a shapeshifter and so it doesn't matter as much. For obvious reasons Sarah Connor is not the same Sarah, and pretty much everyone else (except for Arnold) has been replaced either way.

I think what I'm looking forward to the most in this movie is seeing how they handle those BTTF-esque elements. Seeing classic scenes with the new plot overwriting or affecting it. I'm gonna soak up every little nod or reference to T1/T2 and just enjoy that. I hope the movie will be good, but expectations aren't that high.

Oh noes! Asian T-1000! A robot who can literally turn itself into looking like any person it wants to is suddenly ethnic. :o

This has to be the least of the concerns about this movie. I can't even think of where on my list of WTF that would place or what could possible be after it. The (almost certainly) impending train-wreck that is Terminator Genisys can probably safely ignore this in light of every other inconsistency they throw at us.

If this movie ends up being amazing and on the level of Rise/Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, this will be my favorite thread of all time, haha.

Wait, it's an issue that a shapeshifting robot has a different ethnicity than the different shapeshifting robot we saw before?
