Terminator: Genisys - Part 6

Ive decided that I will go and see it on the big screen. Will be going a few weeks after its' release though.

I'm seeing it for the T-800/T-800 fight alone. Probably. It will depend on how busy I am and the reactions here.

I will admit, as skeptical as I am about the movie, just about a Terminator movie just makes for a perfect "guy movie" to grab a few buddies, munch on some popcorn and hopefully have a few laughs at some Arnie badassery, and then have a long mind-melting discussion about time travel paradox over a few beers afterwards. I mean, I could not be going in with lower expectations. I know the first two movies are classics, but they are far in the past and the franchise has fallen quite a bit since then. So basically, as long as I can find some people to go with, I'll probably see it just because I do enjoy getting out to the movies and it's a way to see friends.

Last year with TMNT my friend and I went it with our expectations so far down in the toilet that even though it wasn't even a "good" movie, we ended up enjoying it way more than we expected to, and it seems like a lot of people are in a similar boat as there's a lot more optimism for the sequel. If this movie can pull something like that for the Terminator franchise and actually reinvigorate it like Cameron is predicting, then hey that'd be nice. I'm not expecting all of that, but it'd be nice to have a repeat of that experience I had with TMNT.

^ Pretty much. I think it will be lousy, but there'll be some neat stuff with Arnie and various Terminators running around.

All I really want is to know more about that vague "re-imagining" that Cameron spoke about a while ago.

After Avatar, I can believe this. :yay:

After The Dark Knight Rises & Interstellar, I can believe this. :yay:

I'd buy that for a dollar.

I thought you'd all like to know that the new 2015 release of Terminator 2 on Blu-Ray is without the DNR and edge enhancement that was on the (2009) Skynet release.

It's under $10.00!

The detail in the Skynet edition has been scrubbed clean! Look at the 2015 screen caps from the link above of Sarah Connor infront of the chain link fence, from behind and you can see the strands of hair in her ponytail, but in the Skynet screen cap it looks like a blob. Seriously this the best this film has looked on Blu-Ray, unfortunately it's Region A locked. For years it has been said that the Japanese release was the best, now this is the best! Unfortunately this is not a remaster, this is from the same source that was used on the Skynet release but without all the added DNR and edge enhancement. This is the best this film has ever looked on Blu-Ray!

Im interested in seeing more comparison shots of the various versions that are out. Someone in the comments in the links you provided mentioned something about the color being different to that of the cinema release and that it has never been the same on the home releases.

This is indeed the best the film has ever looked on him media. The skynet edition was plagued with DNR. It scrubbed away all the fine detail and natural grain.

So far this looks pretty good to me and I will definitely see it when it comes out. T3 received some hate, but I thought it was fairly entertaining for what is was. Some parts were actually pretty funny. Seems like this one will have a bit a humor in at as well. T2 had the best balance, so hopefully it's close to that.

There seems to be this wave of positivity towards this movie, now that James Cameron said it will be good or something. To me it still looks like ****. There's no way Jay Courtney can work in this. I'll watch it on Netflix at most, should it ever come there.

Cameron also praised Sam Worthington's performance in Terminator: Salvation (even though he said the rest of the movie sucked). I'm guessing this praise for Turdinator: Genecyst is just another case of Cameron sticking up for one of his friends.

You can crap all over Sam Worthington as you please but he was fine in TS ( the overall quality of the movie is another matter ), he was even better than Bale.

Worthington and Anton Yelchin were fine in Terminator Salvation, the problem is the movie was so damn forgettable. At least it was at least a few steps up from T3.

The Cameron endorsement is a funny thing. On one hand, it reeks of a publicity stunt because you can imagine a studio panicking that they have a turd on their hands and are scrambling to recoup some 'fanboy cred', so they have Arnold give his pal a ring. At the same time, it's also the kind of move you'd potentially make if you were actually confident about what you had (or confident enough that the franchise creator who was notoriously critical of the last two installments won't hate it), but in need of a PR spin.

The fact that this has even given a lot of people even a brief second of pause to think, "maybe it won't totally suck?" means that was the single best piece of marketing this movie's had so far, regardless of whether it ends up being a bad movie or not. They should be running the Cameron piece in theaters instead of the latest trailer.

I wonder if Cameron will even actually see this, or at least see it right away.

Most likely.

I agree with this. Compared to Bales shouting performance in TS, Worthington's output rose to Shakespearian levels in subtlety.

True. One of the only performances that I think Bale really botched, or was miscast.

Worthington was fine in Salvation. He was also fine in Avatar.
